Lite to ur eyes, your eyes don't respond strongly to the colors tht were in the negative. You see white lminus the colors in negative, which produces the illusion of a correctly colored photograph

The "colorized" photo is an after image. You see an after image after you have stopped looking at something-in this case the color negative. When you stare at the negative, your eyes became adapted to those colors. When you suddenly look at the black-and-white image, which is reflecting white

I think I know how this works. You take the colored image and invert the colors. This is the image you stare at. Then you present the black and white image, and our brain gets bored with the colors you presented so it intensifies the inverted colors which are the real colors of the image. It's like when you were those colored 3D glasses for a while; one eye sees red more and the other one see blue more. Same principle.

Believe me when I say this: I had no idea what the illusion is supposed to be - I had to watch it again without focusing on the dot (you must stay focused on the dot for it to work!) to discover that the change was to black and white and not to colour. @Insatium not weird...its just a residual image trick...literally changing the way your optic nerves work for a second by overloading them....so you dont have to stare at the dot....u just have to choose one point and not shift your stare from it....try again using the top of a tower as the "dot" it will still work the same
