I like Jeremy Paxman when he's grilling politicians who are obviously deliberately avoiding questions but when the politician is giving straight, honest answers he just come across as a prat.
"since there is no chance of you forming a government"
Seriously, why ask that? Not only is it not true, it is also irrelevant to anything. What is Vince Cable really going to say - oh yes, you're right, silly us? It's just antagonism. :l
Paxman is a moron (who probably happens to have an expensive house and dodges tax using his expensive accountants). Paxman is one of those who probably pays less tax on the millions he makes each year than someone on minimum wage.
Cable earned a Ph.D in economics, and is the only one I (like millions of others) have faith in to fix the mess left by Labour and the Tories. He was, after all, the only one to predict the recession we're in today (and that was 9 years ago).
I'm all for paxman grilling politicians who refuse to answer his questions but he does come across as a bit of a belligerent and argumentative little boy when his questions are directly and comprehensively answered and he continues with pedantic and ridiculous little remarks in which he tries to make out that common sense is not on offer. Unfortunately Mr Paxman common sense tends to be spoken by Mr Cable most of the time, and in this instance you were painted as a prize muppet in contrast.
Come on Vince mania is getting out of hand, where was vince on the euro - in the wrong camp, and if we had been in the euro as his party wanted where would we be now. Massive mistake in judgement.
I agree big man from the 80`s. he clearly hasa well thought out plan for the economy and is therefore not phased by a paxman assault. love you vince x
Vince Cable did you bother asking Nick Clegg about this 1 m House tax as his parents live in a large multi millon pound house nr Gt Missenden Bucks . I wonder what they think ...
@SirLoinOfsteak85 His username is 'Liar Politician' and he has 1,745 videos - he probably copied and pasted the titles and changed the name of the politician in question.
Eh? I thought Cable was pretty good in this interview. Paxman is great when politicians are being squirmy, but Cable was actually playing it pretty straight, so there was no real need for the usual snideness.
His answers were excellent. Paxman had sod all to say really, he tried to make Cable look stupid; Cable is not stupid, so he didn't come across so.
I fail to see why the topic is labelled so, but it was a good vid, and kudos to LibDems for being decent on a lot of stuff I've seen so far. Cheers for the upload, I feel it has somewhat backfired.
...the slightest bit of advice from people who have a proven track record or at least some understanding of the subject which I'm sure is far above your head. Perhaps you should try and get in touch with George Osborne, the very man who holds a degree in history and still today can always be called a "rejected journalist".
Anyone who thinks Vince Cable was "sweating bullets" is extremely naive. As former chief economist of Shell oil I very much doubt that Paxman could even break Vince into a sweat when it comes to challenging his know how of day to day economics. I would take Mr Cable's economic judgement any day over a Journalist's and feel that Paxman hasnt got a speck on merely starting to challenge Mr Cable's depth of economic know how or knowledge.
You trust a politician who used to work for an oil company. Now unless you have been living under a rock and don't know anything about how oil companies (and politicians) conduct their business, I have nothing to say to you.
Im sure your knowledge of oil company economics and how they physically pump our gas and oil out of the ground is huge but I'm afraid I must disagree. Would you not think it logical that that their chief economist must be exact, precise and have trustworthiness to their credit to hold a job such as that?...I'm very interested also to know why you should think that such a job would be held by an untrustworthy person
I think Cable does well here. He's obviously nervous and perhaps a bit put off by Paxman, but I think he managed to give an answer to every question that was pretty direct and not covered in jargon. Ever since that shameful interview he conducted with George Galloway after the 2005 General Election however, I don't think Paxman has ever quite been the same.
What a stupid comment. Vince is an extremely intelligent man and rock solid on such meager and basic economic concepts such as mortages. Vince is clearly far more qualified to explain economics than a journalist, and an arrogant one at that! Jeremy puts up a pathetic attempt to try and corner him on any topic of economic discussion.
For starters my name is Importedmusic and not unimportantmusic. Secondly, and on a technical point you can't quantify a statement described as hogwash. Lastly, I would expect Mr Cable to be 'beholden' to the party line since they are discussing the Liberal Democrats' economic strategy of thinking, the very policy which Mr Cable has indeed written out himself and proposed in person. So many economically 'dumb' people seem to to have a huge chip on their shoulder when it comes to taking...
'mauled' is the correct spelling.

LOL This video is a failure , it made me like Vince Cable even more .
Paxman's great at grilling liars , but cable was rock solid , must have been no news
that day. Also , Paxman is an upper class wanker himself , he has a seething contempt for working class people...

Paxman clearly decided that was what he was doing, and the reason why he took this tiresome tack was predictably revealed in his final question.

"Vince Cable maulled by Paxman"? More like Vince Cable rises above Paxman's peurile patronism and competently puts across his points.

Firstly, I know that your handle is what you selected - I call you what I want.
Secondly, describing any statement by comparison is perfectly fine just like my describing what you wrote to me as crap is fine.
Finally, I very much doubt that Cable thought all that out by his lonesome self.
Like most politicians he will have used professional help and passed it through the apparatus many times.
You, a gnat on the rump of this discussion, write hogwash - again.
