What's a standard deck vs whatever a different deck is?

When we played magic in my last school we took a bunch of booster packs (random ones) and mixed the best cards together. Legit?

standard is the most recent sets. right now standard is Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide, Shards of Alara, Conflux and Tenth Edition. However, rotation is in a few months, and Lorwyn/Shadowmoor is leaving for codename Live

dude ... pro tour hollywood was standard ... but this is a tournament that was not for pro tour hollywood tournament, but another tournament for it that was in fact a block one. it was the first block tourney for the last ptq season

You guys should provide the deck listings in the video description for Deck Tech videos. Often many cards aren't mentioned and you can't read the titles in the video since the resolution is too low.
