  • I say it again: Johnny is the king - with Elvis !

    jaap van der zee Jaczee@telfort.nl

  • JC reding of Highway Patrolman is well nigh perfect. Guess Bruce would agree - the 1 dislike probably clicked the wrong button. Fantastic arrangement too. Johnny 99 was a great and underrated album.

  • "leuk"is niet genoeg ! Johnny is geniaal !

Sorry, WAS geniaal. Zo jammer dat hij dood is !!

  • Good to hear john again

  • Damn good song. Never really listened to Johnny, but been doing it lately. It's hard to turn blood in, damn hard.

  • Is there a person on this earth who does not have a place in there heart for cash??? Rapers -country - Tekno -Rockers..... You got love cash!

  • The only singer i can think of that can cover someones song and make it sound better then the original, johnny cash forever

  • Great one...I love Johnny .....<3

  • מוקדש לג'נגיס

  • Wow..Bruce Springsteen or Johnny Cash either one can make this song sound so good!

  • Your Really Got Me, Turn the Page, and Highway Patrolman, are a few of the small number of songs where the cover is just as good as the original. RIP JOHNNY CASH.

  • Bring Johnny back from the dead to duet this song with The Boss.

  • So is Night of The Johnstown Flood a real tune???

  • @AllBobsAllTheTime No song but is a legend in this song

  • Was there anything this man COULDN'T sing? You never knew what you were going to get from the Man. Will I laugh, cry, feel good or just think on this one? Never mind, I know I'll enjoy it.

Springsteen or Cash? Does it matter? IMHO, though, I got to say JC shades it. I think! LOL.

  • Johnny puts a story in it, he tells a story while singing... bruce is just an amazing singer, you can't compare them

  • I got my sis killed. Couldn't save her. This is the song.

  • A good movie.

  • Johnny Cash..... you cant get any better. The night he died me and some freands all sat around and drank a hole 1.57 of jack. Johnny Cash songs all night.

  • Alexsuchapimp: bruce springsteen better? damn you are dumber then that one long black hair that's growing on top of my ass. please beat it and go listen to the 'boss' then , we'll enjoy the version by THE Man (in black).

and damn I am Frenkie. hahahah the black sheep as well and Johnny sounds like my wiser older brother

  • @frenkiebeats relax

  • Was this guy a highway patrolman?

  • @fake1009 no lol

  • Bruce Springsteen's is waaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @alexsuchapimp dont be a jackass. It's not about which version is better or worse. It's just Johnny's take on the song. Take it or leave. None of us care.

  • This version might be better than Bruce's

  • Hey RPG ..yes ..the GREAT Cash also recorded "Johnny 99" he had an album called "Johnny 99" which included both songs. I'm on fire was recorded for the Nebraska tribute cd. Bruce and Cash linked forever.

  • THE BEST

  • Cash loved Springsteen and Springsteen loved Cash. I know Cash recorded at least two other Springsteen classics, I'm On Fire and Further On Up The Road. Did he record any others?

  • Johnny 99

  • johnny 99

  • i could relate to this song i have a brother named frankie and he is in jail all the time. so i sang this song to him when he came home and told me he was proud of me singing so ill love this song until the day i die

  • @WiiniiePoooh - I wish I had a brother named Frankie and that he was in jail all the time. All I have are three sisters that have never even had a parking ticket

  • he aint no friend of mine hell yeah im with him

  • tears to my eyes

  • love this song !!

  • What a great song.

  • Music is not a competition Cash covered the song because he liked the original. They're both great.

  • the way cash's voice sounds in this song, makes you believe this really happened to him, not sure which version i prefer, they are both great. amazing song

"man turns his back on his family, he aint no good" dam right

  • @kalelskywalker

j r cash is better lyrics absolutely right

  • is it just me or does mr. cash (one of the first artist's i've ever heard, no joke) have one of the most solid voices in music, i mean he played for well over 40 years, and he sounds exactly the day he started then the last one he ever did, he will always be in my heart, and i man i wish i could meet

  • Cash singing Springsteen. I'm in heaven

  • you need to learn respect

  • @Jonesyjr85 Well, you're entitled to your own opinion, but don't expect us to agree with you!

  • i wouldnt say it is better or worse, i just know i like it.

  • Not so good as the original, but good enough

  • Nebraska is a great album. Springsteen is a fantastic songwriter. But for me? J.C. captures this song perfectly. better than The Boss himself. A brilliant cover.

  • I'm so NOT a Country Music girl. My "momma", (my -x's mother, no mother n law comments from me, LOVE/LOVED her r.ip.) was a country listening to gal. But not todays, older Johnny esp., I grew to appreciate him, a great deal. I 'm also a Jersey gal, who grew up having family really "know him" not just "seeing him in bars playing". So, The Boss is a Jersey Guy, and we love him. First listen 2 Mr. Cash's version was NOT 4 ME . 2nd time, hmm, not bad & lastly was like WOW. I bow 2 Mr. Cash.

  • yes! much better than the original because its faster and how i thought it would be

  • This is a wonderful version of this song. Stunning as the original.

  • i think even sprinsteen would agree

  • johnny cash might have been one of the best musicians to cover other's songs, except maybe Van Morrison...

rare occasion where the cover's better than the original...

  • in my opinion this is the better version of this song. bruce is awesome, but Johnnys version is my style.

but to all; that´s my choice not yours. doesn´t matter, if you like this or that, only if you like it at all!!!

  • If someone can make a cover... it's Johnny. This number is a tribute to Bruce. And of course another medal on the shirt of Johnny Cash.

  • NO WAT brucie comes close to Johnny on this one, few occasions where remix is better than orig.

  • Soz Gents and Ladies this is the version for me

  • an awesome song. One of the few that can get me to crack a tear damn near every time i hear it. Bravo Johnny! No disrespect to The Boss, but I love this version.

  • i love both singers but the orig by THE BOSS is better

  • I always thot that Johnny Cash was rubbish, and he just made melancholic yankee doodle songs, but over the years of listening to his lyrics and seein how he live his life hes the white bob marley

  • well at least u have the sense to appreciate his music thank you xx

  • This owns Springsteens version in every way. Cash is known for covering a song and making it his own. Even NIN admitted Johnny now owns Hurt. The sound quality in this clip if fairly poor do yourself a favor and get a better version!

  • I don't hear it, man. This is nice little cover, but it doesn't match the soul of the version from Nebraska.

  • love cash but springsteens highway patrolman shreads this bigtime

  • Lovely ballad, loved song... but... bruce is bruce...

  • Nobody can sing this like Mr.Cash. -- God bless you Johnny! ..

  • Lovely ballad, never heard this before. So nice to listen to this, one can see why Johnny had such a huge following. RIP dear friend! Mark

  • ★★★★★ 66 TO 68 he was allover the map, guesting and and turning out ballad faster then they could get recorded. Pokes would bath-up, put on clean clothes , dusted-off the seats and headed to town to go get a hip pocket 5th and hunt up a good time.

He drew them in like Bears to honey ...

  • Man turns his back on his family, he ain't no good.

Man dresses in black and sings like this, he ain't nobody but the fantastic mr Johnny Cash. RIP.

  • BEST, brother with brother

  • R.i.P

  • Best version ever!

  • Johnny all the way was the best is the best no one will ever take his place.

I love all his music from the old old stuff to the last few song he did.

  • johnny cash the best

    white wing

  • My favorite version I don't know why?

  • Johnny Springsteen. GENIAL

  • you ever get a chance DAR Williams sings this incredibly

  • The Dar Williams version is masterful, I'm not a big cover fan, but DAR nails it. I think the Boss' version is a little slow, but DAR and Johnny really nail it

  • exactly

  • there are lots of covers better than the original -- i think johnny cash's version of hurt was better than NIN's,bob dylan even said that hendrix's version of all along the watchtower was better than his own...i agree with you about nebraska, what an amazing album..but why the need for your foul language and insults to get your point across? -- what makes you so angry, are you a frustrated, talentless wanna-be musician or something?

  • Boss sings this one much better!

  • Great Version, good arrangement!

  • JOHNNY CASH WAS THE BEST

  • lol

  • Haunting.I love this.Bruce Springsteen sings this beautifully;

but Johnny singing it puts this on a different plane.*****

  • I could not of said it better.

  • @tuktukskagal

he is not singing, he is talking.

  • There was a movie based on this tune..indian runner..directed by sean penn

  • joe was my grandpa

  • the man who turns his back on his family, he aint no good...fathers out there remember that!!

  • wonderfull song:john and bruce are the best artists from u.s.a.

  • This song is awesome;just gets under your skin.

  • wolrds greatest singers

  • One of my very favourite Johnny Cash tunes...I know it's a Springsteen tune and I love Bruce, but Johnny rules! Yeah me and Frankie laughing and drinking nothing feels better than blood on blood...

  • no it's not Springsteen wrote it.

  • oh dear,embarrasing..its a bruce tune!

  • yes i am..this song was written and released in 1982..please accept this and move on with your life?

  • You're right. It was written by Bruce Springsteen. It's on the "Nebraska" album.

  • This sends shivers down my spine;incredible voice.

  • No1 very well sang the best singer in the whole world!
