  • Such an awesome little speech!

  • Lincoln summarised in the few words, the direction of the US government. Great vision. This version by Jeff Daniel is the best.

  • I love this speech. One of the best in American History, and nobody can say it better than Jeff Daniels

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • Love the way it was delivered. It's a lot better than others when they interpret it making Abe sound so old.

  • 29 people are terrorist US haters

  • GO ABE!

  • @scottwill19 Canada is a federal state that is governed as a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. Oh and why would you pay $2,000 for a paper cut you freaking canadian?

  • I went there, I saw the graves, the monuments, the fields, it is a stunning thing to see

  • Richard Nixon was a controversial president but I do not think that he should be scrutinised solely on the Watergate Scandal.

  • @guppyfishable yeah, that bastard should be judged more for his OTHER anti-democratic actions...

  • The Best President Evar

  • so that one day the USA would dominate the world, and no one could stand against them!

  • of a new imperialism: economic domination. the US imposed artificial borders on artificial countries to divide their puppet governments against each other. then sold weapons to one side or another, betraying it eventually if it got too stable. the US army fought in the name of "peace and order" when playing counter-revolutionaries, and for "liberty and freedom" when fighting for the rebels. all the while extracting thei resources to fuel its military machine

  • i have great respect for Lincoln's oratory, for his hope of freedom for the future, but alas, it did not turn out that way. the USA joined in the imperialist game, and forged alliances amongst the imperialist european powers for the soul purpose of gaining greater riches for WASPs. if the US had not joined in the first world war, the gerans would have won it, and hitler would never have come to power anyway. and when the euro-imperialists fell, the US and USSR took up the reigns

  • America. Greatest Country Ever Created.

"The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here." I Love You, USA!

  • "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." This line was Lincoln's only mistake, as he, in his towering humility, failed to realize the providential nature of his words. If he only knew that his speech would become one of the most revered speeches in human history.

  • @doctorseaweed2 I thibk the world can manage without America today.

  • @KoolAZN222 You cannot manage if the world's most powerful economy falls. It would ruin the economy of every nation.

  • grant was at vicksburg at the time of gettysburg

  • If the union lost the civil war, none of you would exist today.

We would of been powerful enough to take on hitler, and hitler would of taken over the world

  • @doctorseaweed2 If the Union lost the Civil War, the entire course of historical world events would have likely changed owing to the "Butter Fly" effect of chaos theory and hypothetical time travel. It is not possible to say that any of the ensuing world events, e.g., the Spanish-American War, Russo-Japanese War, World War I, the rise of Hitler or Stalin would have ever occurred. History of course would have been worse without the U.S. as the purveyor of liberty throughout the world.

  • @danrich64 It is a very rare time in hisotry right now. There is hardly anyway war because of america. If america falls the world will go into chaos for atleast 100 years.

  • @wcu1catamount Every president has a dark side, not to mention every person. Lincoln was not perfect, yes, but he freed the slaves. Its called the 13th amendmant. He signed it. And I doubt that the South would've freed the slaves. Why? Because they needed people to work. And its cheap.

  • Not, the south was right. For that matter i find it odd that Americans are proud of what happened on July 4,1776. The colonies left England to form their own country. The south did the exact same thing to the union and left for very similar and same reasons. Yet the world looks at the confederacy as wrong. So y is it okay for the colonies, but not the south?

  • @wcu1catamount With too many people of the South, the late civil war is called a revolution, rebels are called Confederates, loyalists...are called damned Yankees...and over the whole great crime...they are trying to throw the gloss of respectability...this the people of the United States, who ended the Rebellion and saved the country, will not permit. -Major General George H. Thomas

  • Carolina attacked prematurely which led to war before the south cpuld free the slaves. Thus history forever reads the falsehood that the south fought for slavery. As for Lincoln, he only freed the slaves in the south. What of the slaves in the north? Such as maryland, delaware, missouri, kentucky, etc? Linion did noy free the slaves in the south for his concience. He freed them in a political move to keep England out of the war. The south will not rise again. We stand as one now. But like it or

  • My apologies to anyone that this offends, but history builds Lincoln up to be this grand and perfect example of an American. I however, find it to be the opposite. This man suspended habeas corpus before war officially broke out and he threw many men in jail without proof or a fair trial. Nobody is above the law and Mr. Lincoln himself broke the law. As for slavery, the south had planned to free all slaves before war so the world could not look at them as fighting for slavery. However, south ca

  • Linclon's eloquence is breathtaking. He manages to capture the essence of human dignity, equality, liberty, and sacrifice with penetrating brevity and sublime humility. May the clarity of such purpose enobled in this speech enlighten and inspire future generations during confrontation with the enemies of freedom.

  • Let's bring America back. On Facebook "Sanity Revisited."

  • What's the music behind this? Is it from the soundtrack?

  • Lincoln's weasel words pale in comparison to Jefferson Davis' Montgomery Address.

Mech610,why would anyone take delight in the fact that The Confederacy was coerced back into a Union they wanted no part of?

  • @gsm315 They weren't coerced back into the union, they never left.

  • Didn't Abraham Lincoln have a high pitched, feminine voice? I read this several times....

  • I heard a quote from a soldier once while visiting Appomatox Courthouse. When Robert E. Lee surrendered to Grant and the Confederates were giving up their arms, a Union soldier called out, "Hurrah! The Rebels are our countrymen again!" What a great way to end that horrible war, joyful at reunification, not boosting at victory.

North or south, Confederate or Federal, every soldier who fought the Civil War were Americans. This speech makes me proud to call myself American. God bless America.

  • @Mech610 I mean boasting, sorry.

  • its really abraham lincoln ryt.?. O.o

  • this really help with my hw tnx

  • This is freedom, this is the cost to build a community, pueblo, society.

This is the true spirit of freedom…NOT the war in Iraq! Is our freedom out there?

I would gladly give my own life to have experienced the civil war..not for a campaign for economical benefit, sold to the mass public in a demented comparison.

  • The south will rise again

  • i got a good grade on this a b-, and my social studies teacher flips out. I tried my best on this, and i just got stuck after," what we say here."

  • Today in England the Queen of England therefore the people of Britain honoured America and its President Barack Obama with a 41 gun salute in London. The great speeches were so much more than words whether it was President Lincoln or Prime Minister Winston Churchill. God bless America and God save the Queen. We will continue until all mankind is free.

  • I gotta memorize this in 10 days. fml.

  • @Stupidjuice817 its not as hard as u think, just study it hard, and you'll be fine trust me

  • Apparently 28 terrorists watched this video. RED WHITE & BLUE! THESE COLORS DON'T RUN!

  • @ibthevivin Well said!!!

  • with all due respect the music is irrelevant. Abe and Winston magnificent freedom fighters FOR THE PEOPLE!!!!!

  • I teach ESL and on the 150th anniversary of Civil Word, I got the pleasure play it to students who with learning English language get to know also history of our country...This reading was very nice and clear, even though some words are difficult to understand for students, they all liked it.

  • @scottwill19 to bad Canada still ain't its own Country

  • Comment removed

  • Without a doubt the greatest speech in World History. Very few, Churchill, Kennedy, Roosevelt, Reagan can be considered close to this.

  • Fuck the united states any country that charges u 2000 bucks for a papercut isnt worth shit, canada is the greatest country ever

  • @scottwill19 You can't have any of our internet money, and we aren't your buddy, pal!

  • Thumbs up if this touched u in your american heart :)

  • I'm a history education major with a focus in the civil war and I'm from the south and my ancestors were Confederates. But I give full admiration to the Federal army for their sacrifices as well as the sacrifices of the Confederacy. Such a moving speech truly deserves to be remembered throughout history. I pray the sacrifices of our soldiers from all wars and including the Confederates will never be forgotten.

  • @wcu1catamount fuck the confederates

  • @floopsie666 fuck yo mama

  • @floopsie666 The Rebels were Americans too...when I walk around Gettysburg....I think neutrally to what they did...but I never lose fact that They are US

  • @floopsie666 It's obvious you are not educated enough to hold a civilized conversation about a topic such as this so I will not give you the satisfaction of a rebuttal. However, I will say that my father always told me never to argue with a fool so good day sir.

  • @wcu1catamount Yeah because only idiots are sane enough to know that when it comes to dual federalism the smart person wouldn't waste time caring about defenders of state governments.

  • @floopsie666 Like I said, I will not give you the satisfaction. Good day

  • Wow gotta do this for school and only got 2 lines in an hour.....

  • Learning for school so watch your views hike up quite a hill :)

  • I have one question, why wasn't General Sherman showed? He played a major roll in the war.

  • Get out of here you southern lincon haters! You people are sick in the head for still thinking there less then a man damnit!

  • 24 people are descendants of Pickett.

  • whats the point of disliking this video??...

  • this guy was the actor of the colonel in the movie Gettysburg that I have.

  • thanks for making this!

  • a good speech! nice :D

  • Im listening to this because i didn't feel like reading it

  • 23 people hate America! LONG LIVE AMERICA!

  • One million white males

gave their lives to free the black slaves.

  • @paul8kangas And the africans who wished to fight were long stopped from.

  • Happy

  • This is a wonderful recreation.....and I love Chamberlain in Gettysburg

and am puzzled by how that same person could play such an idiot

in dumb and dumber...acting go figure

  • once again, this speech is rrrrrrrrrreally really gramatically challenging for me!!!!!!

  • how could somebody dislike this?!

  • Dedicated to the proposition , that ALL men are created Equal.

  • i'd just like to say i saw a comment a few page back that it was the worst battle in history and yes even though it was a horrible battle which claimed the lives of many innocent men on the 1st day of the battle of the somme in WW1 the british lost 20,000 men the same amount of men lost in the entire battle of gettysburg and the battle of the somme lasted for 5 months

  • Even though Abraham Lincoln pissed on the US Constitution when he suspended Habaeus Corpus in order to detain Confederate sympathizers in the Union in the interest of national security ( where have we heard that before?) he was a great military leader who kept the Union together through the bloodiest war in US history. He was a great president who emancipated slavery, but he still failed to uphold the constitution, but I believe the cause was just, unlike George W Bush and the USA PATRIOT Act.

  • This is not a political speech and I am firmly convinced that it doesn’t contain an ounce of politics in it. Rather it is a speech that embodies the spirit of human compassion and understanding. It is true that Lincoln was a great writer and that his address is a triumph of the English language but when words are brought together with such passion and fluidity they become something more than just literature, they become something incalculable. they become a part of ourselves.

  • Hmmmm..... "This nation, under God." I guess no one thought to tell him that this is a secular nation. Oh, well, what did Abraham Lincoln know?

  • EXCELLENT reading. Mr. Daniels. By the way, you ARE Joshua Chamberlain, as far as I am concerened!

  • i like it

  • Today is November 19 , 2010 Abe said this today

  • i have to memorize this whole thing for school, lmfao

  • @beckyboosaysmoo - Why do you find the Gettysburg Address, amusing?

  • Comment removed

  • "The world will little note nor remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here"

Are we still dedicated to the work for which they gave the last full measure of devotion?

I, for one, have been criminally lax! We are struggling for our survival, now against foolish debt. I will now stand and waive my future entitlements to free my children.

Slavery was an abomination, and we defeated it. Let us free our children now from financial slavery and let them also be free!

  • Wait wait, woah. How the hell can this have 21 dislikes?!!

  • @pasnew17 Grumpy southerners.

  • @pasnew17 - The democrat/liberal/socialists are the one's who would dislike this speech because of the last line; "...and that government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE shall not perish from the earth"! You see, democrat/liberal/socialists don't believe in that at all. They believe in an all controlling, mega-huge government, (the bigger the better in their warped minds), and that the PEOPLE should KNEEL to this mega-huge government! Of course, that is NOT freedom, but TYRANNY!

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 There were actually a ton of times where the legislative branch tried to take over the government, like during the reconstruction after the civil war, where congress tried to impeach Andrew Johnson.

  • @pasnew17 - The democrats, (SOCIALISTS!), in the Congress/Senate are trying to do this again, which is precisely why they were booted out of office in record numbers in the election a few weeks ago. The PEOPLE are FED UP! The PEOPLE are TIRED of being IGNORED by the democrat party!

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 Lol, but the funny things about that was during the reconstructino period after Lincoln had been assassinated by Booth, it was the radical republicans who tried to take over since they thought the president was being too soft on the south after they tried to secede

  • I love the backround music and the video

  • @MysteryGodman3 - It's from the movie, "Gettysburg". Read my above comment regarding this.

  • GETTYSBURG... OTHER TIMES

Great new book now available. To order your copy go to my YouTube site (GETTYSBURGbook) or search on ebay or Amazon.

  • I still dont get why the south still flys the confederate flag... the confeds where anti americans who wanted to divide America! Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis are nothing but war criminals to me, they are no diffrent than Benedict Arnold.

  • @Mortskcab Have you heard of the Emancipation Proclamation? It didn't become law until 1863, well into the War. It was passed to keep Europe from helping the South - so are Europeans traitors too?

Lincoln said, "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."

Obviosly, you are retarded. Stop watching so much porn

  • Here was the first Republican president, and as a Republican, I say we owe a great debt and apologies to this man and to God for what our party has devolved to. Can we look to the ideals of this speech and to our founding principles and re-forge ourselves in the light of decency? I'm up for it, and I bet a lot of you are, too! This speech can be made alive again today if only we are willing to accept its ideas into our hearts and sear it into our minds.

  • @jeep1234567890 - Then send this video to everyone you know. I think it more the democrat party has devolved, into a party of SOCIALISTS. They have literally been taken over by socialists, without so much as a whimper of protest from any true democrat of the once great democrat party! Pres.John F. Kennedy has to be rolling over in his grave!

  • The accompanying music is awful (I abhor brass instrumentation).

  • Wouder what it would be like to si,t and watch the real battle unfold, got to get a time machine.

  • @steve5123456789 - You can almost do that by buying and watching the movie, "Gettysburg", which is one of the finest movies of all time. Read my comments above. Enjoy.

  • @JohnQuincyAdams1 Seen it need more movies about it seen that, and Gods and generals.

  • Awesome old photos, and moving speach redone by Jeff Daniels.Too bad the people in Washington have forgotten what this message says.

  • Moving. Insperational. Thank you Mr. Lincoln, the best presedent in American History.

-Civil war Reenactor, History Lover, American Citizen

  • @KatushaShortFilms The thing about saying that Lincoln is the greatest US President in history is that it's utterly true - Lincoln is not tainted by partisanship - saying "Lincoln was the greatest President" is so different from saying "Reagan was the best President" or "Obama is the best President"...simply because Lincoln saved the United States.

  • @Elrich89 basically...no other Predsident has ever done anything with such wieght.

  • this speach forged the U.S.A. into what it is today... for better or for worse.

  • @Draumar666

    The river of Acheron?

  • wow just wow

  • gettysburg is boring i live there the ghost tours are stubid but many famous ppl go to the ghost tours

  • @anythingcool2455 I was there about 3 months ago and it was interesting. It was vary boaring thou. All you could do is drink. haha and look at civil war people.

  • i hate this i need to memorize this by Tuesday :(

  • @TheClubpenguinfan09 me too haha it sucks!

  • Soundtrack from the Movie Gettysburg. Beautiful soundtrack set with one of the finest oratory speeches in United States History.

  • can anyone tell me what the backround soundtrack is..??

that soundtrack really arises the feeling of heroism.

  • @sortie39 It's from the Gettysburg Soundtrack. The track is called Killer Angel. You should give the whole soundtrack a listen. It is a very moving score.

  • @SkylineProductions our nation is being tested once again.

  • I WANT THIS SONG BADLY

  • @nbjchacker - It is from the movie, "Gettysburg", which I personally think was one of the greatest movies ever done. Period. Wal Mart has this movie for only $5 and it has to be one of the best buys of all time. I can strongly encourage you or anyone else reading this to buy this movie for your own personal collection. It's simply phenomenal and does an outstanding job of recreating the battle the way it actually happened. That the men you see died for our freedom, it will humble you. Enjoy.

  • @SkylineProductions The late Michael Shaara wrote a powerful and Pulitzer Prize-winning book about Gettysburg called The Killer Angels. It's a great read and I highly recommend it!

ps- Seven score and seven years ago today -- November 19th, 2010 -- Lincoln gave us The Gettysburg Address. I was looking for this video to hear the words aloud. Thanks for the upload!

  • @sortie39 It's from the soundtrack to the film Gettysburg. You should be able to find it on itunes i believe

  • I LOVE this speech!! Very touching, yet true...

  • great voice imitation, not really, sour,

FYI in my language sour means sorry with a frowny face:(

  • i agree

  • The greatest political speech of all-time? Very possibly.

  • Lincoln was not the greatest president, but shares that honor with Washington. Who had to fight personally the greatest army on the planet. He won and then had to put down insurrection in the officer corp that would have toppled our government.

Washington was tempted with the very real offer of Monarch or King for life, but he rejected it all. He had to set the standard by which all presidents seek to attain. His moral judgment and great character haunts us unto this day.

  • No matter how many times I hear this, I cannot help but be moved to tears. Abraham Lincoln was more than just a great speaker, but also the greatest leader the United States has ever had. He was the right man to lead us in the time when we needed a strong leader the most. He revered the men who fought for this country and honored them with the greatest eloquence of his oratory.

  • Harry! Your hands are freezing.

  • you pillbox seem like a John Brown type of guy he use to come to the north find freed slave and kill them and anybody how helpd dem not only did he killed them he kept shooting still he made sure they were dead and the southners looked up to him as a hero and Abraham Lincoln is so powerful he was able to win presidency without having his name on most of the southern voting ballots so who good is the south now? P.s im only in the 8th grade

  • @macarda

My history book says John Brown was a radical abolitionist, and he died before the civil war. o_O Are you speaking of a different John Brown? He attacked pro-slavery settlements in Kansas and thought he had been called by God to destroy slavery.

  • even tho he did not support slavery he fought the war to bring thew nation back togheter not to free slaves and he was such a brilliant man he sent products out to Fort Sumers wich was in the south and told the confederate president he was going do it but promise they would not be arm becuase he knew the confederate will attack so they dont seem weak and the war can begin by him saying hes repeling against the attack of fort sumers

  • No pillbox did you know that even tho SC secced before Abraham became president they secced after he was elected cause they knew what he was about, and the Civil War wasnt fought to free slaves Abe said "if i can free some of the slaves and bring this union back togheter i will be happy, if i can bring the union back togheter and free bo slaves i will do it"

  • Wow,thanks for posting this video! It's really helping me memorize it--I have to recite it at school!

  • LONG LIVE THE UNION!!

  • what is the song in the background?

  • Soundtrack from Gettysburg- I believe "Men of Honor"

  • even president Kennedy asked Abraham Lincoln's ghost in the white house for advice

  • Today we are again engaged in a great civil war of ideas. Will this nation become a socialist country under the Democrats? Ruled by their iron boot? Or shall we remain free? A government once again by of the people, for the people, by the people. I hope you will join me in voting in 2010 and 2012 for conservative that believe in the constitution that so many have died to create, preserve and protect in this war and others.

  • The same Constitution George Bush's administration, Republican-controlled Congress, and conservative-activist judges all wiped their asses with for almost a decade? No thanks. You all have very short memories.

  • @Shup2the You Soviets are funny. You mean terrorist surveillance program perhaps that all you socialists screamed about then Obama has quietly kept going now that he is in charge? The Healthcare bill only proves my point even further. Wait for it! The shock is coming this November when you truly will know how pissed America is at you suckhole socialists and government lovers like you. Unlike you I do not need a government minion to wipe my rear side.

  • is it just me, or does the reader sound Canadian?

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful.

I wish our current leaders felt like this as opposed to their own political well being.

  • Can someone tell me what the BACKGROUND MUSIC is? I like the feeling hearing it :)

  • Comment removed

  • awsome period

  • Weird, I laughed for hours and now I'm wicked racist.

  • gret video cried for hours and now no longer racist

  • Amen

  • Wow!! Thank You for this Video!!!

  • I was born on November 19th 1970

  • ok i get it with the patriotism but shut the fuck up thats enough with america and all this bs

    im not anti-america im anti-bullshit

  • Dear 1gcrompton, If, by chance, you would take the time to really LISTEN to the words, you would realize why it is considered one of the greatest speeches ever delivered. In so few words, President Lincoln was able to eloquently express so much. Mr. Edward Everett preceded Lincoln and spoke for over two hours. Have you ever heard anyone refer to or quote his speech? Don't just memorize, take this speech to heart and remember it always for the masterpiece it is.

  • yah no thanks sounds boring

  • AMEN TO THAT!!!

  • @ayrlass44 And he wrote this speech on the train from Washington DC to Gettysburg. Amazing person.

  • @ayrlass44 Right on the mark, ayrlass44. As a Civil War reenactor of 37 years, you show much foresight and respect for a period of history now overlooked, and I thank you!

  • @1gcrompton well that's your fucking problem dumbass, I'm pretty sure Abraham didn't give a fuck when he was writing his speech about the fact that after a couple of hundreds of years a whiny little bitch will start complaining about memorizing the speech for his Language art class.

  • @1gcrompton i also have to memorize this...you should be proud that you get to learn such a moving speech...and saying you hate one of the greatest American Presidents, well it just shows how immature you are.

  • America the home of the free and the land of the brave. We are the only true free nation left on this Earth. I will fight to the end with my brothers to keep this great land alive. God bless America!!

  • too bad we are sorely lacking in the brave to keep this land free..

  • @VideoMagician77 well depending on your defininition of freedom there are a lot of countries more free then the US.

  • The United States of America is the Last Shining City on the Hill of Human Freedom, and tyrants will continue to try to destroy it, for our very existence prevents them from gaining total power.

Our history, our principles, and we, Americans, stand here in defiance of tyranny.

Let us honor those who gave all, and remember that we believe in equality, and will defend that ideal to the end of our means and our souls.

  • Let the words of our great brother, Mr. Abraham Lincoln, ring in the ears of tyrants for eternity. And in the ears, and the minds, and the hearts, of future generations.

The nation we have inherited is a blessed thing, and we ought to protect Her! The United States is not a guaranteed birthright, but a privilege that our forefathers gifted us.

We stand together, not to show that freedom is, but to show that we will defend Freedom.

    Amen!
