Umm. The pro's only try to catch the ball on the way up with the driver. With Irons you want to hit down on the ball and compress it off of the ground.

Thats what makes it go up into the air. But from looking at this vid it looks as if the boy hit the ball slightly on the upswing. But anyway this boy has a good swing for his age. Actually, pros hit down on the ball more steeply than amateurs. A common amateur mistake is to try to 'scoop' the ball in the air, resulting in no ball compression and less distance. So you are just wrong all around.

Great swing, but make sure he enjoys playing golf. It should be a game, if he enjoys it he'll be self-motivated to want to practice and play. All you have to do then is support him. Research suggests that supportive environments are better at fostering talent that pressured or 'pushy parent' environments. Make sure you're on the right side of that line if you want him to have any chance of doing well
