In the less than a inch overtake over senna was just possible cause they are two awesome pilots. I miss this F1, where we had a lot of great racers and not only some guys depending on the team.
I feel sorry for him. He deserved more than one title, in fact, for me the 1986 and 1987 championship are won by him. He is like Kimi Raikkonen, good driver with lack of luck.
@james95morrisonUK But the difference in my opinion is that Kimi might give 100% in one race an then the next he might give 70 - 80 %. But mansell gave 110% everytime he got into a racing car.
Hey I like this music! Mansell had big, big balls (and hands big enough to wrap around Senna's neck, bless). The previous point made about all these present bullshit rules and regs preventing these kind of audacious moves being pulled (by today's drivers IF they had the skill) is absolutely right. F1 disappeared up it's corporate ass a long time ago. DFS, KERS, launch control. Christ almighty, what next, a Knight rider turbo boost?. Plus the driver's are so dull. The 70's and 80's are the eras.
Great vid!!! does any what that white cloud like thing that forms on the two edges of the rear wing under braking? 1:10.. i saw it recently on the two mclarens of Jenson and Lewis... curious to know why that happens
Great vid. I grew up watching mansell and red five. He had balls. His overtake on berger at mexico around the outside of the peraltada is bruned on my brain!!
@nacklejack There's an entire section of my brain which is just Nigel overtaking people. For me, although the move you mention was brilliant, it's all about Mansell vs Senna at Hungary 1989.
@anttheman23 Yes, but at least the music was edited well so it didn't sound crap when it came back in, and there were bits of the late great James Hunt in the audio as well.
Nigel Mansell was the absolute best. What he lacked in natural talent (Senna) he made up for in pure passion, guts and a blood red desire to win. The absolute Bulldog of F1 for over many a decade. No one came close when 'Red Five' was 'on one'. I miss those Sundays and it's great to see it all kept alive here on the 'Tube'
People go on about Senna, Prost etc.. but Mansell was one of the, if not the , most exciting F1 drivers ever. I remember him coming from nowhere and racing through the field on many a race. Maybe it's because he come from the Midlands. Not as exotic as Brazil perhaps. I don't care , he was equally as exciting as Prost and Senna.
Thanks for a great video! Great memories of a true racer! Put him in last place on the grid and he would still give everything, just like his greatest rival, Senna. He never had the luck, but made up for it with sheer balls, just missing out on being world champion on on more than one occasion, before finally getting his deserved title in 1992!
@FrowningIke Mansell in that race had a comfortable lead until he had a puncture towards the end. He pitted for a replacement, and came out just behind Ayrton. The rest is history. That clip is on YouTube with Murray Walker commentating, and it is epic.
@FrowningIke I'm 30, and one of my earliest memories is watching F1 in 1985 and asking my dad why Nigel's car had changed colour. Don't think I really understood the driver market at the age of 3 1/2! :-)
@MrTorpedoFist Umm....sorry my friend but Keke Rosberg won the 1982 Championship, Nigel Mansell was a committed driver who was always exciting to watch, and Enzo Ferrari loved those type of men driving his cars, not nancy boys...
@MrTorpedoFist He hadn't even won a race in 1982. He was driving for Lotus, and Colin Chapman had just passed away, which really affected him as he felt he had no support in the team. He won the title in 1992 by beating his team mate in the same car, and he thoroughly deserved his title after racing in F1 for more than a decade and losing two titles through pure bad luck in the mid-80s, 1986 & 1987 - 86, tyre burst, 87 engine issues in several races and a bad crash in practice for Suzuka.
@MrTorpedoFist I agree with ChannelMansell, you need to add Rosberg to that list, but they are some of the most flamboyant exciting drivers ever to grace an F1 grid.
@MrTorpedoFist That's true, but he was a fine driver. He was the first to set a quali lap at 160mph average speed, he was a demon overtaker and he drove the wheels off any car you gave him
this guy never gets the credit i feel he deserves he was cheated out of a title in 1990 allan prost poltitical sportsman nigel was never to good at politics that car was built out of a year of testing and hard work and it was taken from him in 90 the farrari i mean case in point look at his stats when he got everthing his way in 1992 9 wins and three second places out of 16 races this guy was great one of the best !!!
@lazerpod66 Correct Jeepy my Friend: Mansell was a FANTASTIC driver, one of the greatest... To beat Senna you need to be superfast and brave. He was. That's why He managed to be a real deal for Ayrton, sometimes being as fast as Senna and, on his day, faster. Similarly, to beat such a clever strategist like Prost He only chance to beat him was being faster than Alain. And I saw a lot of races in which Prost's technical approach was too much for Nigel, but He won against him by being faster...
Nigel Mansell was an absolute ass off track yet probably deserved more than one world championship. It was no surprise really that Piquet could play head games with him..
Hamilton is definetly an old school racer! all the moves drivers pulled to try and defend against mansell are now illegal and he would have trouble today due to the blue flag. Mansell a true master of racing and Hamilton has the misfortune of too many rules and regs!
A good video, just a shame about the music over the sound of the cars and murray walker!
@iskenderzadeh In my humble opinion, no Great Driver would ever deliberately take another driver off the track. Something both Senna and Prost have done to each other.
What a great driver. He's still fourth overall on the Grand Prix winners list, but I still feel he's underrated. I guess because he only won one championship, but he came close a few other times, and fought Senna, Prost, Michael, Piquet. His autobiography is terrific reading, he bounced back from a lot of bad injuries early on in his career, won the title at... 39? And the Champcars the year after, what a dude.
from 06.00 that's 'the peach' - you don't see that much anymore, he drops the dummy, closes the door but opens the window, sliding left to right. That was absolute fucking textbook.
@ChannelMansell Certainly did. In fact, I used to prefer it if Mansell had dropped places for whatever reason rather than be out in front, because you just knew that something unbelievable was gonna happen. I lost interest after Damon Hill won the title as i could see the way F1 was heading......Hopefully it will regain it's appeal some day.
@rowlocks99 What, when he was too fat to fit in the Macca? Haha I thought it was a good way to exit, better that than how Schumi's going about it right now...
@unclenewy totally, he and Ayrton had made racing car driving the most exciting sport of the moment, now it has become even more boring than golf & curling! :D
@SuperPrivate2011 Mansell without a doubt, Hamilton is good but Mansell raced in an era where the driver made more of a difference rather than the better car. Plus he is still the only person to have been F1 and Indie car champion at the same time.

Great video. Great narration. All destroyed by an insipid soundtrack. ChannelMansell, it's do-over time. Put this together without the Night At The Roxbury pollution. Seriously.
I strongly agree. Though I'm brazilian and reput Senna as the greatest of all, Nigell is my favorite for his agressiveness, determination, highspiritedness and for never giving up, not to mention his superb skills. No doubt one of the greatest of all times.
Unfortunately, I alsso agre thet this shitty music spoils the video.
I know some think it is great. Anyway , I think there are lots of music sites for thhe fans of that kind of muzak and it has nothing to do with the stuff we look for here.
Love the video! Love the commentary! But why is it polluted with a crappy music soundtrack? The only music should be the sound of the engines, nothing more, nothing less.
Nige has always been up there with Schumi with being able to take a lesser car and wring its neck to best of their own driving ability long before they had the Constructors Champ's chassis at their disposal. Piss off Senna & Prost ...
well fuck....

1:18 The best overtake ever over Senna.
It's funny how he looked to his left and saw
Mansell there, I wonder what went through
his mind; (no man you again! give me a
break Mansell)
I'm Brazilian and really admire the boldness
of both racers.
R.I.P. Senna.

Good Video. Nigel Mansell the most underated driver ever, but my hero. The only person that passed Ayrton Senna regularly.

Good video. Found the music sinfully annoying to be honest.

Love the video! Love the commentary! But why is it polluted with a crappy music soundtrack? The only music should be the sound of the engines, nothing more, nothing less.

As a Senna fan I must admit those 'faking' moves were awesome.

Nige has always been up there with Schumi with being able to take a lesser car and wring its neck to best of their own driving ability long before they had the Constructors Champ's chassis at their disposal. Piss off Senna & Prost ...
