  • This is a tough call either way..i was a senior runner when this happened...Yes the Rosa's were on Record Pace, but who is to say that they would have stayed on pace to break the record simply to risk their lives....If they were going to stop this race though, it should have been done the moment they made the choice to evacuate....it should not have been done on the bell lap....this was a bad day for the NJSIAA.....a case can be made for either argument

  • "This is the worst decision that the NJSIAA has ever made in its disgraceful history. This is terrible!"

  • Now lets say they let him continue and he was struck by lightning, then the whole talk would be "omg why did they let him continue with lightning in the area?" It's a record but the kids life is much more important and nobody wanted to be held accountable for a tragedy that could of happened... They made the right move not to take the small but risksy risk of possible death....

  • bet they wouldn't have stopped Usain "lightning" Bolt, lol

  • They started the race because the weather wasnt that bad at the time. If you can start it, you start it and go until its bad enough to stop. They did the right thing by stopping the race, record pace or not. The fans are in aluminum bleachers and if lightning is spotted or thunder is heard they have to call the race off by rule. If someone (or the people in the aluminum bleachers) got hurt, all of you and the family would have different feelings.

  • @andyb0035 you obviously were not there because it was thundering before the race even started...

  • I'll bet anything the man barking orders has done nothing great in his life.

  • @SuperJohnjohn101 Why should the official be fired?? He did the right thing. Yes, it is unfortunate. But it was the right thing to do. I'm honestly not even sure why this was a story on yahoo. The kid didn't even break the record, it was only speculation that he would have. But you're probably like 10 years old huh?

  • Rosa wuz robbed, Rosa wuz robbed, Rosa wuz robbed!

They should have some system where its optional for the runners to continue at their own discretion or not..

What would Rosa's most likely finishing time have been..?

  • @MargaritasAntesPorco Are you serious?? LMAO. These are kids we are talking about, not professional runners. There could NEVER be a system of what you are talking about. That is just an ignorant statement by you.

  • @Fish61324 still, they are the top HS'ers....as fast as Prefontaine....i didn't really think there could be a system such as i suggested...if they're on the verge of state/national records, i no longer think of them as "kids" (but thats just me)...hey, Rosa, break a leg man( think acting).

  • rules are rules

they dont want to get sued

  • Wow, that sucks. Those officials can go screw themselves. Why even start the damn race if you're just going to ruin it?

  • I feel for you guys, I couldn't believe this when I heard it.

  • Odds = 1 : 280,000 of being struck by lightning

  • pearson isn't getting enough credit but he was running a fantastic race! he hung on for way longer than i think anyone expected him to

  • glad there were still kids running on the infield minutes after the race was cut short...............

  • Unbelievably unfair

  • wow barricade and everything. if lightning was in the area they shouldnt of started the race

  • i was just there in the stands! screw the refs there was one lap left :P
