  • Beautiful piece of music, even if incorrectly identified as "Stranger in Paradise." The enormously popular song "Stranger in Paradise" was set to this melody, which is known as "Polovistian Dance," composed by Borodin.

  • I like it so much! Thanks for marvelous music!

  • Andre sucks.

  • @joaop1020 And that's your opinion. You don't need to make it public.

  • Now, I may be wrong but is this piece not called "Polovistian Dance" rather than "Stranger in Paradise"?

  • @MiloLacheln "Stranger in paradise" is based on the polovetsian dances.

  • i dont like.

I find it very simple and off.

    There is nothing special.

  • This Musical Piece remind me of my Grandma, God bless her soul. Amazingly put, even if you listen to the actual song, pure words.

  • This is the same orchestra that fucking rocked Ravel's Bolero.

  • We the Dutch know how to make Music, dont believe me? look at what we have, Andre Rieu, DJ Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, Golden Earing enz.

We are cultural superior, we have been for some time, remember the time of the 17th century, in which Dutch trade, science, military and art were among the most acclaimed in the world and now Music :P

    XD

  • @rogieroh you cant compare nationalities speaking of music, remember that England had the beatles, coldplay United States had the best rock bands like guns and roses, metallica Spain has Andrea Bocelli,Italy had pavarotti, russia and the neadtherlands are good speaking of djs only

  • @RiveraVideos Andrea Borcelli is not spanish but italian XD

  • @rogieroh: God only knows how many people died because someone else thought they were superior.. And why is it that nations love to take credit for the successes of the individual ? If you want to take personal credit for Andre, will you also take credit for the transport of 140,000 Jews to nazi camps? .. Yeah didn't think so !!

  • @celticlofts i said we were cultural superior, because were open minded about people and just like to have fun and enjoy ourselves, not killing other people because we think there weak

  • @tzepishoru Good correction. Thanks.

  • luv this song, but it`s not stranger in paradise, it Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin

  • Very nice but easy to play

  • A puríssima representação da perfeição.

  • Finally the magic of the tunes....brings my emotion back...brings soo much back...the essence of silk and the night is alive again...late at night , like now....The Phantom lives again...

  • What is the instrument being played after the flute at 2:36?

  • @mozqir It's a bassoon.

  • @siellgee1955 Thank you for the info! I thought it was an oboe, as the bassoon is the third instrument from the flute. A bassoon usually has an extendend "pipe" on both ends, while an oboe looks like a flute, but with flaired (bell shaped) ending and a thin "blow tube" on the other end. Regards.

  • @mozqir Apologies; it is an oboe upon further inspection.

  • Bravo. This was absolutely beautiful !!!!!

  • ........pure perfection :)

  • WTF?? Its a russian old opera!

    "Polovets Dances"

  • Honestly I believe that the orchestra should get just as much recognition but thats my opinion.... and yess beautiful song!!! love it

  • OMG.Andre you and your music, you really are the very best, l absolutely love you, the music makes me melt away to a beautiful place where there your music to listen to all day.

  • I absolutely adore him and his music - his playing is out of this world - what a hunk too ! I could listen to him all day and night and never want it to end.

  • Borodin Rules!!!

  • The expression on his face as he starts to play reminds me of the girl I fawn for and miss as I love her when shes away from me..-UW

  • Princ Igor...

  • Borodin-Polovtsian dance...

  • Heaven's sounds****************

  • un moment de grâce ...

  • that was incredible

  • This is extremely fuckin absolutely fantastic. I'm crying...

  • love this song soo much !!! never heard an orchestra with a soloist play it though thumbs up XD

  • I would never have imagined that a violin soloist could do borodin's piece justice. But this guy blows me away!

  • adoro a Andre Rieu, violinista y director de orquesta, genial pieza :)

  • si ¿¿¿por que???, if why?, Sì, perché?, Oui, pourquoi?, Sim, por quê?, Any other language? algun otro idioma razista!!!!!!

  • Amigo, ni caso, disfrutemos de las danzas polvtsianas y de la buena música de Andre

  • ¿y tu hablas español? payaso

  • it sounds oriental to me.....not a good or bad thing.......I see like a japanese lady singing this then I think of the woods

  • Interestingly enough this song originated in the play Kismet, which I hope I read it right to say that it's of American origin, and was first picked up by Tony Bennett. This violin solo adapts the song very beautiful, and ironically, regarding your observation, it has been done by a Japanese composer as well.

  • Kismet is an adaptation of the play Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin. Stranger in Paradise is based on the Polovtsian Dances. It sounds "oriental" because it's supposed to; it's about Prince Igor after he's been captured by the Polovtsy, who were a tribe of people who lived east of Russia, northwest of India.

  • Thats fuckin beautiful! *__*

  • Amazing! Who is he?

  • I think he is Andre Rieu from The Netherlands

  • thx

  • Bellisimo, muchas gracias

  • polovstvian dances alexander borodin

    great anyways

  • This piece is so beautiful.

  • There is something about the way his grey eyes look, its really... intriguing

  • que carita que ponee

  • They're playing it a bit fast, but since there is no chorus it doesn't really matter. I played this in my youth orchestra a few days ago, it's awesome.

  • I have heard it even faster than this.

  • hermoso!

  • magnificent!

  • "Polovetsian Dances" from "Prince Igor", isn't it?

  • Yes.

  • Wonderful !! J'en ai la chaire de poule tellement c'ets sublissime !

  • How people don't understand, what is Good and what is not so good as it seams.

  • almost crying

  • This is a favorite melody of many years. The music played by this orchestra is very haunting and played with passion.

  • It is the most beautiful melody in this orld.

  • when is the next Cotona Concert?

  • fantastic orchestra,we call this song our family song my dad went to the suez crisis in 1954,and heard this song as he was leaving southhampton beautiful 10/10.

  • My Everlasting love for this pearl of music-Borodin`s - Polovtsian Dances! Yours respectfully,Laura

  • Hi Laura! what a nice meet, we know the good music... I love this piece, "this pearl" as you said.

I know a nice version sung by Tony bennet.

    Cheers.

  • Yes I tried Tony`s version, nice. And Humperdinck`s also. Hadn`t heard them before. Thanks! Glad to meet you too!

  • Super.

    I am too.

    Thanks *

  • makes you wish you could play

  • Chill off, my connoisseurs. It's not a SONG. It a cry of Russian women slaves, a part of the Polovetsian Dances from the opera Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin.

  • i bow to women as the stronger gender, but clearly they can be hypnotized by the hands and heart of a man. love has so many faces of magic and they provide the mask to unveil a kept coy heart

  • Excellent version of this song!

  • you think _this_ is good? You oughta hear him play "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."

    ;-)

Seriously, isn't this a beautiful song (one of my all-time favorites), beautifully done?

  • someone had a dream to carve a piece of wood and run run a string over it's funny shape, results Magic

  • The violinist is very handsome. This probubly is my most favorite piece of music. It is so very romantic. Does anyone know where this video was filmed? It surely is a beautiful city.

  • i love andre rieu!

  • this song is Sarah Brightman's "Stranger in Paradise"

  • Think back a LITTLE further.

  • a little over 100 years back. every current version of this tune was copied from Alexander Borodin

  • I have seen the title transliterated often as "Polovstian"...(probably French influence) but AcesHighO is correct..."Polovetsian" would more accurately trascribe the origial Russian...which is "Polovetsky" and is pronounced: "po-lo-VYET-sky"

  • The song as they said is the Polovstisan Dances, composed by Alexander Borodin... the title "strangers in paradise" comes from the 1953 musical "Kismet", that was made into a movie in 1955. Most of the Kismet songs were take from Borodin's songs.

  • It's called Polovtsian Dances (Prince Igor) - Dance No. 17

  • beautiful reendtion! check out vasko vassilev's version. its wicked!

  • This classical piece is called Polovetsian Dances.

  • Could anyone tell me this performance was staged and if there is an album where this piece is included? I couldn't find it on iTunes store.

  • I love this song.
