The ones on trains are british transport PCSO's and they now have the same powers as regs, which should be passed out through out the whole force. Where are you based?
do you guys know that the emergency services are being told not to attempt to save drowning people because of health and safety restrictions, pcso's stood by and watched while 10year old Jordon Lyon drowned.the police officers are a joke, nothing more than thug revenue collectors now
@looknfortruth i think you should read into the full incident and not just what the Sun puts in the paper, they arrived after the child went under so did not know where the child was, but the biggest point is; they couldn't swim.
@obiitom Paul Kelly, chairman of the Police Federation in Manchester, said PCSOs do not have the same level of training as police officers to deal with life-saving situations. He said the PCSOs might not have been able to swim and in that case they should not have risked their lives.
@looknfortruth that was a poor response by a Police fed rep defending Police Officers but blasting Police Civilian Staff, when asked the PCSOs had arrived some time after the child had submerged and neither PCSOs could swim, what makes the sting from Paul Kelly worse is that even Police Officers are not required to be able to swim any more so in essence they do have the same level of training in that regard.
@obiitom the point is,NONE of the emergency service providers are allowed to save another human life if they are drowning.the Karl Malton xase showed fire men, police officers and abulance crews spent 3 HOURS!trtyn to retrieve a dieng man because he was in 18inches of water!
i can understand to a degree why the rules are in place butwhat kind of human being obides by them in a situation were someone is dieing in front of you?
They should just get on with the training and get the powers. It's all very well asking politely if some drunk yobs could stop vandalizing the nearest empty house but it would be better if they could hack them all out or taser them.
went to the special constable interview job but the test/ exam was a bit hard though so now I'm thinking of joining PCSO ..i enjoy their job very much..it seems new experience, challenging fun as well on the other hand..guess when it comes to riding a bicycle most of the time..why not!
yep pretty sure - what force are you going for? in norfolk you apply for a PC or a PCSO they are seperate jobs and you dont have to be one to then be the other
No, you dont need to be a PCSO first. Every police officer joining a territorial police force in the UK will do 2 years 'probation', in uniform and working on division (beat officer) before they can apply for CID etc. Maybe thats whats confusing you.
The additional sence of secuirty posed by support officers is good for local neighbourhoods, though what is the bloody point, why can't we just have more police officers - plain and simple. As for criminals, they wouldn't give a flying fcuk if a support officer was on them. I apreciate support officers and they do a good job, but it should stay a fully fledged police force, next they will be agency workers, great the whole morale of the force going to tatters. Great work Mr Brown - Thanks-X-NOT.
Im a SC for the police and I work in conjunction with PCSO's and they do a fantastic job, even though they dont have the powers that SC's and PC's have they are keen to get stuck in with any job backing up there fellow collegues.... anyone who dont like PCSO's need to think who are there main contacts within each force are....

@bilko2446 you think there so great then explain why half the PCSO`s in york use the same dealer as me i exaggerate for effect i only know 3 that smoke weed but still if i get baked with them how are they or the police for that matter doin a great job riddle me that
@bilko2446 Fuck the police. Protecting rich criminals from the poor and desperate.. You should be ashamed of yourself. I don't know how you can sleep at night with your nice little family, knowing there are people living on the streets because of the cunts you are paid to protect!
Andrew, PCSO are only doing what you should be doing, but cant be arsed to. Get out meet the public, footbeat etc, your a disgrace to your uniform, youve missed the point , and i dont give a toss how many years youve been in the job, there are many 'bad officers' who have sliped through the cracks and enjoying themselves in high ranks. And many more Im glad to say who do a good job, and support their colleagues both officer and staff.
also, PCSO's are the foundation for Neighbourhood policing, without them community policing would not exist, who would drop into the schools and create key contacts within the community?
further to my last comment I would also like to add that I am applying to become a Police Officer in the near future, I would not be happy to know that my so called 'colleague' thinks little of an important part of the police family, without PCSO's the link between the police and the community would be very little
andrew what you are failing to understand is that PCSO's are trained to use communication to deal with incidents, not powers to use force, members of public would much rather speak to a PCSO about goings on in there neighbourhoods because we don't have the intimidating factor that police officers do, however on the other hand, the uniform we wear acts as a derrant which prevents crimes and ASB. I don't know what police force you work for but where I do the public can't praise us PCSO's enough
That was exactly my point! You dont need any qualifications to be a PCSO or a PC! If we were not around you would dealing with more and more crime reports! I think it really is discraceful that as a PC you have these opinions of your fellow collegues.
No wonder people have no respect for us when there are PC's like yourself who have no respect. I hope one day you are single crewed and in need of help and the only person to help is a 'waste of space pcso'. Real team-player you are!
I would not say they are a waste of time at all..they look the part which is a deterrent which is good enough for me...I get more of a non arrogant conversation off of them also! i think they do a great job and we need more to rid of the bloody CHAVS! Im sure any POLICEOFFICER has a chip on his shoulder about this and im sure they look down upon the community support officers...instead of working as team.
Unskilled PCSO's?!You need the same qualifications to join as a PCSO as you do to be a PC! I joined at 18 and have done it for 2 years! I had a National Diploma before i joined and have gained many qualifications whilst being in the force! If i wanted to be a PC then i would have joined as one, being a PCSO is a brilliant job! Your most likley to have a PCSO first on scene if you got beaten up or robbed as we are out and about, so think about that before slating what we do!!
Hi Andrew you say PCSO's make little difference well thats bollocks, the PCSO's in my area are out everyday tackling ASB, never do I see a proper "Bobbie" walking the beat in my area which is Middlesbrough.
So please dont say they are a waste a of time when was the last time you got off your arse and made a difference?
PCSO's were put onto the streets because half the police officers have there head up their arses and think walking the beat is beneath them.
They do not have power of warrant like the police and basically have little more than 'common law powers' which EVERYBODY has. They can issue on the spot fines, seize booze and stop traffic. As for arrest powers, search powers, investigatory powers, detaining powers they are fairly redundant.
Look up Common Law (use of force etc) and Criminal Law Act Sect 3 to see what powers Civilians have.
lol i see point in em, and the cops comment up top is right , your slatin em but what are you doin to help ? i live in goring but i have a flat in moss side in manchester for college and its alot safer down hear because of the so called morons like that x think before you speak or save us time and dont speak at all....ever x
I am a pcso for Thames Valley Police and suggest all you morons do your homework before slating what we can and cant do! I wonder what you guys are doing for your community and what you do to help reduce crime with your neighbourhood!
We don't need you patrolling our streets, what we need are REAL POLICE on the streets like we had in the 80s, the fact is its cheaper for the government to employ unskilled PCSO than it is to train and recruit skilled police officers.
Before you call other people morons what QUALIFICATIONS do you need to be an PCSO?.
PCSO's are great despite the one sided media coverage they get.
We need more like:
PCSO Uthayakumar Packirisamy, London who just a month after the 7/7 terrorist attacks stopped a woman who had mental health problems blowing her self up on a bus.
PCSO Will Brockett, New Mills who on his own saved a man drowning from a freezing river during winter
PCSO's Mike Driscoll and Sue Broadwell, North Yorkshire, who dived in to save an elderly man from drowning in the fast flowing River
I'm a pcso for S.yorkshire Police.I agree 100% with what you say.PCSO's are still relatively new and misunderstood.I do notice that whilst on duty that all the people who say we are useless and that we can't do anything tend to be the people who run away from us when approached!what does that tell you about how many dipshits are out there?
I have never been arrested by the police in my life my PCSO friend and don't get me wrong I am not attacking your personally but why didn't you join as an police?.
I also know you have the same powers of arrest as me "citizens arrest" as I took the time and effort to ask a kind lady PCSO yesterday.
thankyou, then at least they would have full police powers and they could do a lot more to catch the "dipshits" or "street scum" as someone wonderfully put it.
Not saying you are not putting in the effort but you are restricted.
they arnt supposed to arrest people, your like the rest of the narrow minded public who dont actually understand. the whole point of PCSOs is to get to know the public and build a bridge between them, because the regular police dont have the time to do that. the majority of people prefer talking to PCSOs and reporting things to them, instead of police officers.
