if you are going to get this done, i recommend you don't its really not worth it the recovery is shit. you have to eat blenderized food for 6 weeks if not more. with the jaw being broken unlike a broken arm you can fuck it up and re break it. the recovery is long and shitty. if you are contemplating orthognathic surgery don't do it. if you are considering it for aesthetics my friends can't tell a difference. you also stay swollen for 2 months at least. fuck this shit

I have the same basic jaw structure as you and my orthodontist said I should have the surgery when I'm 15, but I'm 15 now and my jaw is apparently still growing, so I'll have to wait,... but If I wait until I'm 19 my insurance won't cover it. I have the same problems as you and I'm worried that they'll mess up somehow! It's horrible. I just wish sometimes that I could have born differently. Oh well, life is life. oh, I remember my day before jaw surgery, it was last september , the 19th and I was freaking out! I had a lot of friends over and that helped.. I'm glad I didn't know how bad the recovery would be, but I'm really good now and it all went well and I'm happy with the result. OMG I had the exact same problem with the crooked bottom jaw and the top defficiency. I ended up having my lower jaw cut and moved back and genioplasty. It's been 6 weeks and I can't still open that wide but self esteem is like never before.lol.

i had the exact same thing, and there was a huge gap between my jaws when i closed my mouth. i had the same operation on the 26th June 09 (a bimaxillary osteotomy, which is the cutting of both jaws, i'm guessing that's what you had done) anyways, i seriously thought i was the only person in the entire world with a jaw like that until my orthodontist told me that many people have it, i still have some swelling and can't open my mouth that wide.
Am really keen to know how you are getting on - my daughter (age 17) is due to have the surgery on both upper and lower jaw in December so all information greatly received

Are you the only one in your family with that kind of bite? I am, I always wondered if it was genetic or just random.
When I was speaking to my surgeon about it he asked if I was of South American decent, apparently because it's much more common for them (I'm not, I'm English). So if that's true, there must be something genetic in there?However, I do no know this for sure, but I am also interested in finding out. As far as I know, nobody in my family has the same problem though.
I didn't realise how many people have had or need this surgery, it's kind of reassuring :)

I hope it all went well.. my sister had a tumour in her jaw and had to have surgery. her jaw bone got drilled and she got a wisdom pulled out. she had a tube in her jaw so she could use a syringe to clean out the bone until the tumour disappeared.
