Ah I knew I should've bought that white charcoal pencil I saw two days ago :/ I've always used only black charcoal and a hard eraser in all my drawings, never used anything else, but God willing I'm definitely gonna use more of these materials next time I draw =)
@jkghnmf Those 3 white colored pencil-like things are called "Tortillons" or "Blending/Smudging Sticks", I just googled it xD and yes they are used for blending and/or smudging charcoal =)
one other thing to realy help with is the spray... to save time and effort you can just use hair spray, i strongly push that you use a aerosol can with the hair spray and just like Andrew said lightly spray it, or it will rinckle you paper.
Hey! I've been doing about the same technic :D If you want to try a charcoal brand, try the COATES one, especially the one called CHUNKY: it fills the paper surface immediatly :D
I was looking for the white charcoal lol I used to use white chalk (not covering enough) and white pastel (cover more than chalk, but still not enough) I'm glad I've researched some infos on charcoal :D
By the way, do you clean you work surface after drawing? I still have some "charcoal stains" left on my table :(
Thanks really much for these tutorial videos! i have problems with papers.Any papers you recommend? watercolor? i buy and try acrylic paper Canson Arches 185g next...but anyway what you use in works that you wanna put in wall and takes good those dark/black colors.And tryed yet those "new" tinted charcoal pencils?. Hails from finland..sry my spelling. hope it makes some sense.
good job but that was the cooolest and weirdest pencil sharpener ive ever seen and by the way that poker drawing going to make your publicity go up fast so good job and good luck on your next drawings
Any art store. I got everything here from Aaron Brothers. You can also try Michaels, but any art store should have these. Or if worse comes to worse, just get these online, there's a site called Jerrys Artarama that has a lot of good stuff.
Thats not a knife!! Thats a MACHETE!!! lol. I use the hard charcoal all the time to do my outlines. Ill always use that to sketch my drawings. But then again, i go over it with color so you really dont see it at all after that so maybe thats why. I pretty much have the same stuff you do. BTW thanks for showing ur reciept, i now have ur credit card number!!!!

@MrWFSJR. Preference, work-ability & outcome. It's working for me!
pinsetter1991 1 year ago
Question? Why is charcoal use instead of graphite pencils. Is it age vs. fade or texture quality (or something else)?

I like your knife lol
I just carry a small basic vectorinox knife and do fine with most things but a big one is still pretty badass.

I recently purchased some charcoal, and the box didn't say compressed. Is there a big difference with the results you'd get?
