Wow! Thanks for the memories! I was a card-carrying member of DREAD (Detroit Rockers Engaged in the Abolition of Disco) and lived for JJ and the Morning Crew. Not to mention Arthur P. Now I'm 54 and living in a small town in Utah. Geez, what happened?
This is actually a double-parody of two different bands...a) ? (Question Mark) and the Mysterians' "96 Tears", and b) the Kings' "Switching to Glide" [the second on the Kings' promo medley & video]. WRIF later played the band "White Bird", one morning, by a band called It's A Beautiful Day, and boy, did "Bruiser" and the morning host have a field day with that one! [The name of the band, not the song.] I was far too young for a DREAD card, though.
Sad that "?", the guy who sung the inspiration for the first parody, had his house burnt down in recent memory. I wonder if he lost any of his master recordings?
i too remember the days of lisining to the morning show laughing my hinder off to jj and the morning show. great way to start my shift at G.M. auto line. the bruiser kicks hinnie. WRIF baby!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for posting this stuff. Anyone who grew up in Detroit in the 80s listened to every parody these guys did on JJ and the Morning Crew on WRIF.....I bought this record on vinyl when it came out...wish I still had it..
LMAO when hearing "Jet" as rendered by The Bruiser Band on Detroit WLLZ. A full song parody about Mayor Coleman Young's sabrejet which bellied in at Detriot City Airport.
Released at the same time Wings was performing in the area. Lead vocals by their Young impersonator. Great stuff. Then there was the song about the Krugerands.
I wonder what Question Mark thinks of this very fine parody....there should also be a "Weird A" equivalent to the Oscars: awarded to Finest Parody. Stroh's beer is fine, too. The Stroh Brewery, Detroit Michigan: where I grew up!
Where is the edition with the sound effects, like kinna in the begnning, theres a *BURP* and then right after "When the sun comes up, we'll throw up" a HALLARIOUS puking sound happens?
Gotta love it!!!!!!!Nothing matters but the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Love the old WRIF.Anyone got more songs from The Bruiser band.Let me know.
gOD BLESS YOU OPIEJOHANSEN FOR SENDING ME THIS SONG IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME BECAUSE I LOVE TO CATCH A GOOD HIGH AND I HAVE BEEN LOOKIN FOR THIS TUNE FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLENIA ,AND NOW I HAVE IT !! BEWARE MORTALS , FOR NOW I AM COMPLETE!!!!! IM SWITCHING TOOOO GLIDE!!!
