At 5'8", his hands must be pretty small, so I imagine he has to redirect the ball in mid air without actually holding it.  Jumping with the ball in both hands makes it harder to get that extra thrust and extension. Still, the guy is my height, and I used to be happy to grab near the top of the net. He's going up another 18 inches and crushing the ball with style.
