[I don't have any right to give advice on technique.] The difficulties of the tonic/dominant right hand arpeggios indicated by two grace notes and the G# as a full note value, I think [I don't have my score in front of me] may be obviated by striking the two grace notes together.
@kczapper says it all - "extremely hard to get perfect". George gets as close as is probably humanly possible. Beethoven marked the opening upwardsarpeggios to be played without pedal ["con sordino", that is, without lifting the dampers, the mechanism at that time probably still being operated by knee levers]. George follows this precisely which produces the right effect. Despite what some say, Beethoven had a very good understanding of how to write effectively for the piano.
You played this very fast but it certainly worked in your case, George. One of the difficulties is the strong dynamic contrasts which must, of course, be brought out, but which increase the level of technical difficulty.
the level of mezzo forte at the end was a little too exaggerated. I would suggest for the 2nd repetition of the sonata play just a little softer but keep the crescendos and all. Other than that very impressive and expressive for someone so young.
Wow, Amazing job. The only things I can think of is at around 3:20ish make sure to make the left hand dramatic. I also notice that you seem to get slower when the hand stretching is uncomfortable for you.
" ...he (Kempf) was pllaying and improvising at the keyboard as a small child; aged six he appeared at a Potsdam musical evening and played a Mozart sonata. He was only nine when he was sent to the Berlin Musikhochschule, where his skills in fugue improvisation and key transpositions impressed the examiners.." Christopher Breunig.
This kid will be better than kempf when george plays it you feel like someone is singing but when kempf is playing like singing with a violin but george will be better!!!
It was very good and i enjoyed the performance. I am in a picky mood so i will say a few things. I felt that it was slightly too quick and that made it hard to take in the emotional aspects of the piece, which would have been present through your playing at a slower tempo. also, places like 4:52 tend to drag, this is probably on purpose and if you want to keep it that way then so be it. I was amazed by the clarity of the music at that tempo, even if i didn't like the tempo. It showed off skills
George has a gift of finger clarity, but I would agree, sometimes he has the tendency to take a fast speed just because he can.. but as he matures in the future, he'll come to realize this
People overestimate this piece. It's not a song Kempf mastered afters years of practice and experience. He could probably play this much earlier in his life already.
Anyone who states that you are better than Kempf is evidently trying to express a preference, not who is the better artist. The fact that your performance is being compared to Kempf's speaks only of your outstanding talent, not of any intented disrespect for Wilhelm Kempf who is a monumental presence and a universally established Beethoven scholar, specialist and interpreter. Thanks for sharing your outstanding talent so generously on Youtube and congratulations on your ever growing fan base!
george, when I listen to you play this...it insprires me to play this mvt even sharper than I would.thank you so much for posting and my own video of this sonata will be up soon on my new channel
