  • Does the sheath have a belt loop

  • would it work as a good. buschcraft/skinning knife?

  • Honestly - The guys at ESEE are such a$%holes.. i'd never buy any of their products. Take a look at this: ratcutleryknives (dot) com

  • @0rounder0 why are they assholes they build great knives and have the best warranty of any knife manufacturer

  • @0rounder0 They are the same company

  • Hey what was the knife review that you cut your hair in half? Im looking for a decent knife

  • I have 3 of the esee knives. I have zero tolerance and SOG etc. The blades are different, and I have a spiderco sharpener, but what is your opinion on a good sharpener. My local knife sharpener had back surgery and is out for 2 months. I have difficulty sharpening with the spiderco for some reason.

  • Great review ! I'm from outside the US and a bit confused with the names, want to buy one but can only find a Esee RC3, are these the same or similar?

Would appreciate if you can help me out ! thanks

  • @TheCandyrod they changed their name, its esee not instead of rat, ontario is the other company thats similar, but esee/rat is better appearently

  • @PhillieBRidin Thanks for the feedback ! ordered the 3 and 6 and very curious for the 2011 stainless satin finished one

  • I have a Coldsteel SRK AUS 8 never been used with slight sheath wear on the finish I would be interested in trading for an equal interesting knife. If anyone is interested leave me a message on my page.I dont mind if its been used as long as its not worn out or broken.

  • sweet knife! wishi could afford RAT fixed blades. :/

  • still have this knife?

  • @PhillieBRidin Nope :P

  • help me out, i cant decide which color to get

  • @FlamingFury5 i cant either

  • I heard RC 3 is better than RC4. it fits in hand better and more practical. I have Izula so thinking of getting RC 5 and may be I am all set for Survival bag which I will probably never use any of these stuff in the bag LOL

  • @jaredbotha good to see you are makign your rounds on mt videos, Im glad your enjoying them, thanks!

  • I am an aggressive backpacker and outdoor kinda guy and i carry a Fallkniven Pilot Model F1. I backpack in Utah, I travel to Montana and sometimes go as far as the Saskatchewan. I've seen this knife, and a close friend of mine has gone through RAT's (now ESEE) jungle training and said alot of good things about it. Would you consider this knife or the Pilot more reliable for a survival/defense knife?

  • woa 100 bucks the rat 7 costs that and is a lot bigger and has more uses dont get me wrong a knife like that can preform small tasks and can carve but $100

  • Tops knives origanlly came out with the RAT Laser Strike.

  • @masteroffajitas Yeah but Tops knives are utter crap. Bad designs, and even worse heat treating.

  • @hughes7520 pretty sure Tops & rat are made by the same folk (rowen ).

  • I this a review of the knife or the bag?

  • Rowen is the actual manufacturer of the Rat Cutlery Blades (Made by Rowen FOR RAT), and the butt of the knife is designed to be a glass breaker (unmodified version)

  • Great knife, one of my favorites. Ontario went after RAT for the logo. RAT (Randall Adventure Training, is now ESEE knives. :)

Great review, thanks for posting it!

  • i'm a duck.

  • does the rc-3 or rat-3 come with the belt clip attached

  • which one holds edge better d2 of 1095?

  • @SCAREDBANANA D2 is harder and more brittle but its edge retention is better.

  • @SCAREDBANANA yes D2 is harder but will also chip easier

  • the Ontario comes in both D2 and 1095

  • Yes, I have both too. I show them no love and both have held up equally well. It's a wash in my opinion. Can't go wrong with either.

  • RAT Cutlery is better than Ontario RAT company. fuck everyone who thinks differently

  • Guys,,, that kinda got outta hand, didn't it? I've used knives that size for a camp knife... they do well. chopping is left to the LARGER blades, such as machetes and axes.

  • Rat had there first series of knives made by Ontario, but when the contract was up Rat went out on there own. You can read about it on Rats website. The RC-3 is an updated version of the Rat 3 design.

  • so i dont think that sheath is kydex looks more like plastic/nylon anyone have any thoughts? BTW which do you like better plastic or kydex??

  • both worjk the same, and I dontr abuse my knives enough to prefer the slighty better harder kydex...

  • Rat had a contract with Ontario but it ended and Rat started to make there own. That is why they can both use the design if you look Ontario makes the RTAK and Rat 7 and Rat makes the 3,4,5,6 and they use RC on the blades and not rat I am guessing because Ontario still owns the name for the design.

  • Hey Jeff, what is your favorite edge? I'm liking Convex due to it's durability.

  • Ontario was making the knives for the RAT team, then they went to Rowen to make the next line of blades. Same designers, different manufacturers.

Rowen are miles better, I have had both.

  • bullshit! i have both and used both doing very hursh tasks while teaching my survival curses and i see no difference in the performance of both.

  • shut the fuck up kid. YA I SAID "KID". .....blow me fool

  • @jaredbotha you are a douche bag!

  • The RC-3 is not MILES better. It is only a slightly upgraded version of the RAT 3. Both of them are almost identical.

  • Punk is dead and the quality and workmanship of the Rowen blades is Kilometers better then Ontario's line.

    Wrong twice, bud.

  • yeah but the warranty is WAY better on the RC-3

  • cutlerylover

im sorry but can you tell me if this is legal to carry in virginia because i have the ontario RAT-3 please reply

  • if you were going to choose either the rc4 or rc3 as a companion to a larger knife which would it be?

  • THE RC4 IS A LARGER BLADE. seriously, if u needa knife bigger than a rc4, get a fucking gun :|

  • Larger knives have their purpose. That rc4 isn't even that big, it's about the size of a steak knife.

  • Yeah, I love splitting wood with my gun!

  • hay what is a good affodabal fixed blade

  • try mora

  • i think the pointed end was meant for breaking glass

  • or skulls in an emergency

  • What is the average cost of this knife?

  • $100....

  • @cutlerylover is it worth it?

  • How come your sheath came with the nylon straps when all the other RAT knives just come with the plain kydex sheath?

  • either this is how they came originally and they changed it, or perhaps since I won this knife from RATS contest maybe they threw them in as extras...

  • Look for RAT RC-3 that specify MOLLE BACK in their description. Otherwise you just get the standard sheath without the nylon molle backing.

  • @namehisname My RC-3 came with both the drop-leg/MOLLE nylon and the kydex with the boot clip attachment..

  • hey jeff the rc-3 handles are ,i think, linen micarta. The only product under the rat cutlery family that has canvas micarta handles is the rc-3 MIL.

  • you should get a surefire flashlight G2 i have 1 it is grate

  • Rowen is who does the heat treat on it

  • What is the most convenient way to EDC a fixed blade like this RC3?

  • probably a horizontal belt carry either on the middl of your back or your dominant side...

  • they aren't making the rat3 anymore.. just the rc-3. They have a nice G10 orange handle now too. check out nutnfancys rat3 video.

  • blade - 3 3/8

  • MOLLE=Molly

  • great review!

  • From what I understand originally RAT contracted Ontario to make their knives. Later RAT opened their own knife company, making thier knives, and Ontario did not stop making the RAT line. RAT wants to make it's own name, not as a subsidiary to Ontario. That is where the feud comes from. I'm 98% sure this is what happened but do not quote me own it. Great video, keep them coming.

  • thanks for the info.I didn't know that.

  • sorry in a rush dont have time to listen to the whole vid. although i have before. wat is the blade steel?

  • 1095 carbon steel...

  • thx

  • What's the name of the store you get your stuffs from? I can't make out what you said. It sounds like County Comm but I get no relevant match from search engines.

Great videos dude. You got a lot of goodies.

  • nice video

  • I like this knife..

  • Should I get this? Or the ontario?

  • I like these more sicne RAT cutlery uses 1095 carbon steel which flexes more and chips less than the Ontario versiosn that use D2...but its up to you...

  • What does harder D2 havbe over 1095?

  • edge retention, it will hold an edge longer...but 1095 is more than sufficiant, I like D2 for tasks lik cardboard cuttgin but not so much for outdoor stuff there your going to beat on your blade a bit...

  • Cool, thanks....feels cood? The Micarta?

  • YES although it smells a bit, kind of like steril lieka hostpital, lol, but it feels very nice...

  • lol, thanks.

  • How much is this?

  • Just under $100...

  • Hi, this is a great video, I got some questions, how much is this knife, and hows the quality compared to CRKT blades like Ultima or first strike? What catergory is this knife in? tactical, camping.. etc, thanks!

  • Price is just under $100 and as for wuality ti blows CRKT out of the water, I liek CRKT knives but this fixed blade beats anythgin I have ever used by CRKT...thsi is actually advertised as a small outdoor knife but it can fill a tactical role as well if needed...

  • the rat rc-5 is being desighned right now. if you go to their website you can see a prototype.

  • how much did u get that for?

  • I got this one at newgraham for like $91 and chane if I remember right...but this is traded so I no longer have it but I do have a RC-4 on the way...

  • Can you show the contents of this bag?

  • same stuff I had in video on the maxpedition fatboy...

  • I dont know if this is correct but i think its a three piece lock system... I checked their website and thats what it says.

  • ahh ok...

  • Correct me if Im wrong but I believe Rowen is the name of the contractors building these knives , not the designers name.

I want one of those badly !!

  • You know you might be right...Sorry if my info was incorrect...

  • yeah r.a.t stands for the maker + training randal a(some name that starts with a) training

  • I belive its randall adventure traingin, where they train epople to survive in jumgle confitions...

  • yeah i just looked it up its randall's adventure & training. have you seen the new izuka neck knives made by them.(i might have missed spelled izuka idk) oh and nice vids all of them!

  • Yeah, I just won one and a RC4 in a photo contest, all the info is in one of my recent update vids, Ill have a review on ti when it comes...

  • where can i get that knive its realy great

  • newgraham carrys a few different RAT models, but if they dont have what you want just google RC-3 fixed blade...

  • The whole thing between RAT and Ontario is that Ontario DID pay RAT to use the designs but the contract is was a while ago. Now that RAT is starting to sell their own knives, Ontario claimed that RAT shouldn't use the RAT name and Ontario even tried to copyright it. I haven't been keeping up though so I'm not sure where it's all at now.

Still, great video! Keep them coming!

  • Ughhh drama, lol, thanks for the infdo though I appreciate it!

  • Ontario had a RAT line, I like ontario :) I'm pretty sure.

  • Yes they do still have a RAT line I think, but there is alot of arument on the forums, that they sort of stole the idea from RAT cutlery or were not payign them to use the name or somethgin I don't remember...?

  • is their a folding version of this knife or something? because i think it's obvious that it's a fixed blade.lol

  • LOL, true, I can omit that from the title, which I wil do now, ahhaahaaha...

  • could u make a vid about the stuff that came with it coz im thinking about getting a RC-4 and could u show how the sheath works?

  • Hey, sure, I will make the video for you soon ok...I ahve a few others to make 1st though...

  • that's sick! looks tuff and hell and you can tell it's awesome quality!

  • It really is a nice fixed blade...

  • 8:48,you said "cant beat that".Why don't you go and get you're fallkniven U2 and try it.lol.

  • True, very true for alot of my knives, lol, but for a thicker fixed blade its very good! I use the term loosley, lol, in that you won' be sorry if you buy this, hahaha....

  • ok thankss

  • No problem...

  • what is a decent fix blade?

  • I suggest you check out bladeforums or knifeforums, there are thousands od decent fixed blades as well as hundreds of AWESOME fixed blades!!! It really depends on what your looking for in a fixed blade...

  • Figured I'd throw some info your way. I'm currently in the USMC and that specific color of the sheath is called "Coyote Brown" It's a good neutral color between Jungle and Desert Ops. The straps will work with the MOLLE (Pronounced MAUL-E, or Molly is in a girls name) That long strap is designed to weave in and out of the straps that are sewn onto our gear to keep it very snug, close, and secured. Great videos, keep the good work coming

  • Ok cool, thanks for the additonal info!

  • p.s. thank you for fighting for our freedom! I have the upmost respect for any military officer...So thank you!

  • hey jeff,i went to wikipedia and looked up"MOLLE" and i'm not sure if it's right or not but,it sais that it stands for MOdullar Lightweight Loadcarrying Equiptment.

  • Interesting! Could very well be the meaniogn, thanks for posting so others can see! I learn something new everyday!

  • Great vid. Now I'm going to be shopping for either an RC3 or 4. Thanks man!

  • Sweet!!!! I hope to own another modelt myself in the future...I love this smaller RC-3, and am wanting a RC-5 now, hahaha...

  • That wouldnt happen to be the Gen 5 Maratac on County Comm would it? I just bought one 2 nights ago, still waiting for shipment.

  • Yes it is!!! I have a vid on it too for you to watch....congrats on your purchase, I love this bag!

  • Nice bug out bag. Ive been looking into getting a RAT 3/4 for awhile but cant decide between the Spyderco Dayhiker fixed blade and the Rat 3.

  • Tough choice...I have not tried the Spydy fixed blade msyelf, but I can say the RC-3 is a sweet fixed blade for the money, on the other hand I never had a spyderco dissapoint me either, hahahaha...

  • yeah, mine will be here end of next week!

oh, and the RC-4 also will be coming with it =)=)

  • Nice, you gotta tell me if you like the extra blade length on the RC-4...I want to get another RAT knife, but Im still wonderign which model to get next...

  • you bet I will!

  • you convinced me im picking one up now and it should be on its way in a week or so

  • SWEET!!!! I think your going to love it!!

  • Sorry dude but you have a RC3 not a Ontario RAT3,totally different blades and you have the better version,RC# is RAT Cutlery, sorry you do not know the difference..Rat 3 says rat3 on blade and RC3 is RAT Cutlery, decent review but know your blades before posting....

  • Ok, your the 3rd person who said that, lol, please read the replys below...And sorry for the confusion...

  • Hello, please read my response to the above comment, and accept my appologies...I know alot about folding knives, but I am still new to fixed blades, and was unaware of the feud within these 2 companies...

  • dude, you call this the rat-3?

Randall's adventure and training (RAT) separated from ontario a while ago. they are now RC-3 as the guy below said.

Rat was around years before ontario took up making the RAT-3. RAT cutlery owns the name and designs of these knives and ontario is trying to steal them. The whole thing is currently being taken up in court (lawyers)

I don't want to bag on you, but please do a little more research when you buy...

  • This one is a RAT brand RC3, from RAT cutlery, I might have been wrong is saying its a RAT3, I didn't realize that is a trademark name from Ontario cutlery, I am now aware of the feud after reading more info from RAT cutlery's website...

I will reffer to it as a RC3 from now on as to not be confusing...Sorry...

  • i'm not into fix blades that much, but i really thinks this is nice.

i like the combination of the black and the green.

  • Yeah it has nice contrast...From what I have seen they also use other liner colors like red...

  • i'd really like one of these, but i already have plenty of small FBs...so i can't really justify another purchase.

countycomm eh? i live close to them actually, but they don't have a walk-in store >:(

  • Yeah, unfortunatly...I love the stuff, I have some new stuff comming soon, yay, more review videos, lol...

  • I wanted to ask a couple of questions. What do you think of RAT 5, it's a little bigger version and how do you like that linen micarta handle on this knife? Is it more grippy than plain micarta? Does it feel solid or more grainy? Thanks

  • Its is sooo nice, the ahndle just feels amazing, and when it gets wet it takes in some of the moisture keep the grip nice and solid, which is great! I plan on getting more Rat models in the future, maybe a RAT4...but for now I can only speak of this one...and I LOVE it!

  • i love your vid reviews, your is very informative unlike some other guys who just mumble useless information instead. and you got good taste in knives, all of your knives are good choices and are ones that i will also buy or consider buying in future.

keep up the good job, awesome video.

  • Thank you very much for this comment! I am glad you enjoy my videos...

  • been watching ur videos all nite lol, enjoyed the lot.very informational.i recently bort a mcusta basic damascus,1st knife out of many to come.was a lil bit dissapointed u didn how 1 or ne lol.but thanx for giving me an insite to knives. ps would like to c the finished n working version of ur knifecheers

  • wow awsum looking knife and a great idea to keep it in your pack ready for action :)

  • thanks...yup, ready to go!

  • nickynwong is right its just a pin i dont no what it is for lol when you life up the corkscreew it slides out

  • lol no it come out under it you might not have the one ive got it dont matter thanks anyway lol

  • oh, hahaha ok...

  • no i mean the pin that you can take out under the cork screew

  • OHHHHHH, lol, ok, thats a mini screwdriver...its desinged to just fit on the corkscrew for convienance, hense the wird body, lol, look at the tip, it shoudl be a philips head screwdriver...

  • can u carry that knife on ur belt

  • Yes, vertically or horizontally...or on an angle if I use one of my tek-lok attachments...if you don't know what that is, do a search for tek-lok, I have a vid on them...I plan on attaching it to my belt when I am in the woods, with the addition of a piece of paracord looped through the bottom of the sheath and around my thihg to keep it from wiggling around...

  • hello cutlerylover can you do a vid or just send a comment back on what the pin on a victoranox knife is used for thanks

  • Hmmm, what the pin is for? I am not sure I know what you mean, could you please send a message with more detail...But in general pins on lockbacks and slipjoints are usually used to keep an inner piece if place like for a slipjoint it would keep the backspring in place...

  • i think he means the pin found under the corkscrew...

  • Yeah I figured that out, lol, its just a tiny philips head screwdriver...

  • ... i was thinking of the one that inserts into the sc
