People like Magnus Carlsen definitely geniuses. Chess is not an IQ test, no, but great chess players have eidetic memories, are very quick thinkers, and have huge mental endurance. Those are the ingredients of genius.

@Tomasovich15chess how do you know they have an iq of 160 plus? thats a pretty bold statement. is there any proof of this? basically what im saying is that just because a person is really good at something chess doesnt label him/her as a genius.  they may be a genius at playing chess but that's it. and the only reason they can predict what the next move is, is because of years and years of playing. its called practice.

@zach100590 Lots of people practice for "years and years," but only a few, like Magnus, dominate everyone else at chess. Many who practiced long and hard just give up when they realize they don't have the requisite talent to be exceptional.
