  • Your account of the Penton is not correct, John Penton designed the bikes bearing his name and contracted KTM to build them. Prior to being contracted to build Pentons KTM was a producer of small bore commuter bikes, at the end of the "10 year contract" (1978) KTM took over as sole controller of the off road/motocross bike world wide.

  • yamaha yz 490 ...up next. my guess

  • what about the 1983 kx 125?????

  • The RS Suzuki's were the bottom rung in the Suzuki off road line up. Shorter travel suspension, milder state of tune compared to the RM and serious enduro ,the PE. The RS was more of an entry level play bike. And you can not forget the 1980 YZ465, as it was THE open class bike that set the trend for large bore, Japanese production motocross machines.

  • Another awesome Motocross vid by tobyeo. Really like the photos of the Hodakas and the sound effects. Nice going!!

  • you should make one why there outlawing 2 strokes , and the new era of 450 4 strokes (2002)

  • Politics? They are not out lawing 2 strokes! I'd quit riding if they did that, I know you're probably a 4 stroke guy but I like my 2 strokes!

Actually, I had this same discussion with Maico International and they said 2 strokes are making a come back in a big way in UK and Austrailia and they can't see that happening (move to 4 strokes).

  • in a way im a 4 stroke guy, i do racing which i enjoy alot more riding my 450 cause of the power of the bottom , but for everything else i love riding two strokes.

  • Yes, japanese companies were always good at making 4 strokes but were never good at making 2 strokes. A maico has power from the bottom for example.

  • I use to be a pure 2 stroke guy, until the first time i rode my YFZ 450 and it damn near put me on my ass. I still like the 2 stroke feel though the way there is no "in between" throttle. it's either on or off. And the way they just "come alive" seemingly out of nowhere at about 1/4-1/2 throttle.

  • One thing to remember, 2 strokes are not just dirtbikes, outboard motors a lot are 2 strokes also, diessel engines are 2 strokes as well and they do produce more pollution than gasoline 2strokes I bet. The boating industry is pretty big on 2 strokes, they have websites up that have a bunch of information on this topic, so its not just limited to dirt bikes its a much bigger issue

  • Right. In the outboard world, they're starting to use Direct Injection in 2-strokes, which gets rid of the traditional carburetor system. This means that the fuel and exhaust ports are no longer open at the same time, so fuel will get burned before being expelled, much like a 4-stroke. In many cases, pre-mix gas is no longer necessary, further cutting emissions. This overall leads to better power, better mileage, and emissions that meet or exceed the standards of same-horsepower thumpers.

  • ya, not to mention that 4 strokes also burn oil in smaller amounts, 4 strokes, as with all engines, also emit unburned fuel in smaller amounts. 2 strokes are limited in the US and is not like poorer countries where its actually a main source of transportation, so its not really a problem with dirtbikes.

The real issue is that tree huggers want you out of the forest. Rest assured that if they did ban 2s, 4s would not be far behind.

  • In the late 1990s they did an emissions requirement on ORVs in california. The emissions requirement not only banned 2 strokes, it also banned most 4 strokes! The new 4 strokes are causing other problems though, noise, the deep sound has actually gotten motoparks closed. So if its not one thing its another, the point is that they want OHV banned period. So even if you disagree with 2 strokes, if you see a ban do not support it and write against it because 4 strokes would be next!

  • well what i ment to say is , here in Canada , im not sure about boats , trucks etc. but 2010 will be the last year all the main companies will be making two strokes , till this year , Honda , Kawaski , And Suzuki have stopped making them. Yamaha , and KTM are still making them until 2010, and a rumor ive heard of a 2010 CR500 being made.

  • I'll probably do a video soon addressing this issue, you are right a lot of companies are stopping 2 stroke production, the reasons though are poltics in the AMA, this is different though from actually banning them which is another issue.

  • i think there should be an 81 or 83 kdx 175 or 250 in there and also an 1981 it 465 or an 83 it 490. because all 4 of these bikes of (which i own an 83 kdx 250) were and still are great enduro bikes that changed Japanese dirtbike history.

  • my cousin has the 1981 rm 125 and recently got his 1981 rm 250 going. cant wait till i go riding with him his 250 must be a monster coz the 125 wasnt tame at all.

  • 250s are a dream to ride compared to 125s that like to be revved high and ridden hard

  • awesome vids, but you forgot about the KDX 200, probly one the best trail bikes and gncc bikes ever! and how can you forget the early huskys? everyone had them in the late 60s early 70s and malcolm smith rode them religously! also how about late 80s bikes? and 90s? like the first alumnum frame honda from 97? and how bout one about 4 strokes even though i know me and arent that into them they still had a big impact on riding even back in 70s and 80s!

    keep up the good work!

  • Not to mention steve mcqueen :)

Ya, lot of bikes I will continue this and add more over time.

  • pretty cool and informative

  • nice man
