I can't believe he and/or his handlers wouldn't have realized how foolish this was to simply ignore the law for a politician. For those that aren't aware of it, and even if you weren't taught that it is a law, then you are free to continue not practicing the hand over your heart. Back to Obama, he was either ignorant or made a conscious decision to rebel against something so simple and yet so symbolic of a person's love and respect for their country. Neither option had an upside for him.
We never learned to put hands over the heart for the anthem, just for the pledge. My hometown was full of WWII vets (my dad included) and I'm sure we would have done that if it was proper. I just came across this video today and want to point out that the proper conduct during the national anthem is to place your hand over your heart. You need to go to google and type in US flag code #171. I am sorry to point out that you are wrong about modern customs.

I think race is important, but not in a way which puts other races down in a hierarchy or some racial illusion.
Race has to be important because we're all so different in so many ways. If we were all from the same place, all the same colour, we'd have no languages, no cultures, no music, no arts, no medical developments, no interesting foods and we would even be without animals like "dogs" !!!

Well this wasn't the best singing I have heard but better than I can do. Putting hand over the heart I would do but I have seen others not it was something I was taught to do. Surely taking off the hat is a must but many today don't, really thanks to lack of family teaching the ways of ole to America and schools don't or can't, it is a wonder the youth even bother. No crime in not doing so but I know many military or ex military that would bust a bottle over ones head if not.
