MG42 was a terrifying weapon. STG44 was a big improvement over the Kar98k. More accurate than an MP40 and 30 rounds without reloading. Need good upper body strength/control. Use semi auto for long range and full auto for close action.
I believe the MP40 and STG44 go for over 20,000 grand now, not sure on the Mg42.
absolutely terrifying is an understatement for the mg-42 hell every german wanted to use it because they always said the more rounds you put down range the more you kill
@museruls You need to buy from a Class III dealer. These dealers are specially licensed to buy, sell, and transfer fully automatic weapons. A good Class III dealer will help find the gun you want and help you file the necessary paperwork (it's an involved process that takes a few months). Ask around your area for a good dealer or search online. They are not difficult to find...it's a big business.
Why would anyone ask to see a type100? They must be playing too much w@w. the type100 was a cheap clone of the first submachine gun the German MP18. The jap. version was poor quality and chambered in the 8mm nambu pistol round, instead of the 9mm Luger round, which is still the most widely used pistol round in the world.
It's like comparing the Motorola Razr to the iPhone
@MrErnest18045 in the USA you'll need a background check, paperwork, a $200 tax stamp, then AT LEAST $7000 to buy the rifle. The ammunition isn't cheap either.
@v8R580Scania Haha ok, but comparing the Stg44 and the American BAR is comparing apples to oranges. One is a personal assault rifle, and the other is a squad-level light machine gun. As squad support weapons go, the BAR was lighter than the British Bren or the German MG34.
compared to modern assualt rifles the STG44 is a very poor choice for combat. but back then there was nothing like it yet. soldiers were often either stuck with a sub machine gun which suffered in accuracy at ranges beyond 75 or 100 meters, or a bolt action (or rarely semi automatic) rifle which is not as effective in close combat for obvious reasons. but the STG44 gave them the ability to use fully automatic fire when they needed it, while still having an effective semi automatic rifle.
@rootbeerfilms1001 Yes on the Sten, although it's my only British automatic weapon. I'm not particularly interested in the Pacific theater, so I don't own any Japanese weapons. I will try to chalk up the Sten alongside the Thompson and PPsh41 for the next video.
@TheHeidarNowar You bet. The PPSh41 sporting a round drum clip gets my vote for coolest-looking gun of WW2. Next spring I'll try to do a video with some other popular pieces--the PPsh41, Thompson, Beretta 38A, etc.
@DicesAreRedv "The MG 42 fired WAY faster than 15000 rpm!! They reduced it first to 18000, then after a few years to 15000. So even after WWII, the MG42 fired faster than 18000 rounds per minute."
The MG-42 cyclic rate is 1200 - 1500 rpm. It is nowhere near 18,000. That would be 300 rounds per second and that rate is only achievable with multi-barreled cannons i.e. 'gattling' type weapons.
@SuperResnick The weapon's development was kept secret from Hitler because Hitler did not favor the idea of an automatic infantry rifle. He changed his mind when he saw it demo'd.
@mattnukem3 I agree with you fully. German weapons to an extent are a lot like Kalashnikovs of their time. My friends aunt has a Gewer 71/84 still fully functional
I DONT MEAN TO BE A DICK....BUT YOU GUYS ARE PANZIES!....i shoot mausers,mp 40s, walther, luger, dryse, mg 42....pretty much most german made arms from the 1800 on up. german arms are ment to be beaten and smacked around, like most germans(i am one) we are stubborn....the stg 44 like most mausers bolts is ment to be jerked and slammed, to chamber, fire, to clear the gun, and to get as many bullets out as fast and acurately as possible. no offense but you HAVE to manhandle german weapons.
Great video. I also have the same German machineguns that you fellows have, and have annual shoots in Minnesota. Nice to see you guys having fun too !
@UltraMAD13 The recoil of the Stg44 is fine--no more than any other assault rifle with a mid-size cartridge. It's just an awkward weapon to hold. It's a large, wide gun. As you can see from the variety of sometimes bizzare comments on this thread, guns are a matter of personal preference! I simply find the Stg44 to be "unwieldy," especially compared to an MP40, AK47, or Thompson, etc. To each his own!
@UltraMAD13: Its been somewhat subjectively said to be one of the most controllable assault rifles ever designed. See the Larry Vickers special titled "German Assault Rifles."
@TheFirstFlip the way you fired the stg44 was wrong, same with the mp40, in combat they never used them that way, for the mp40 they griped it by the up top part of the magazine, and with the stg44 they didn't grip it by the mag, they griped it infront of the backwordaim sight, the barrel grip, you are firing the way they tought in weapon training...never did that in combat try firing them the way i told you next time...
@UltraMAD13 no, not really. Soldiers became guidelines on how to use the weapons most effectively. Given a non-combat, and non-german situation, it does not matter. What these boys do is fun-shooting.
@DrChrispocalypse This video is of German guns, but I have WW2 MGs from the US, UK, Soviet Union, and Italy. And asking why I only have "Nazi" guns would be like asking an American collector why they only have "Democratic" guns. These are political parties, not weapon manufacturers.
@TheFirstFlip: Isn't it funny. Ideology is now acting as a hindrance to objective discourse about firearms. 2+2=4 can't be true because Hitler said it was, so the MP40 cannot be as effective as the Thompson.
Nice vids. About the mg-42 it was called "hitler's buzz saw" due to the fact its rate of fire. MG-45 was suppose to be even faster but the war ended and they were never mass produced. Good stuff.
@DJxMaTTz There were several assault rifle designs and prototypes before the Stg44, but it was the first select-fire weapon to be distributed to large numbers of troops and see combat. So yes, you are correct.
@DJxMaTTz There are firearms that came out before the Stg.44 that has features which puts it in the same category as an "Assault rifle". Altough most of these never entered production.
@TaZ101SAGA In the US, the supply of WW2 weapons is fixed since nothing else can be imported legally. I never tried an STG44 in fullauto, but in semi auto it's really easy to control. Soft recoil. It's funny how you wonder why the soldiers in WWII loved it. First time I tried one I instantly understood why they liked it back then. It's a fantastic weapon. Nice video.
The Germans loved the STG44 because it delivered man stopping power out to 500M. I don't know their training, but I serve in the US Army and our rifles very rarely leave semi. I would guess it would have been the same for the Germans as well.

@wwwvisitaalborgcom Good man, it's my favourite too. I have a Yugoslavian MG53 (MG42 copy) and I love it (even though it isn't fireable due to our laws) lots of interesting internal pieces ;)
StG hard to control? I have to disagree, I've fired the gun and it's as controllable in full auto as any other Assault Rifle. In short, these guys would've done just as poorly with say an AK47. Also the StG in the vid seemed to have an unusually low RoF, which may be due to a maintenance issue. Type Berlinvoss on youtube and watch his videos with the StG, or Cosmos where it is directly compared to the AK47. Nothing clunky about the weapon, it was the most effective smallarm of WW2.
@TacticalFighter90 I've actually never seen that spelling. But I can see how someone would have mistakenly come up with it. The original German spelling is Sturmgewehr, which directly translates to "storm gun." Perhaps because the English translation is "storm" people have then misspelled it.
@TheFirstFlip TacticalFighter90 is criticizing your pronunciation. But don't worry about it! As a non-German speaker, you're doing just fine with the pronunciation. Thanks very much for posting these videos, incidentally. It's great to have the opportunity to see and hear these weapons on modern video. They were incredible advancements in firearms and remain extremely influential in their design 50+ years after their introduction.
