but on the other hand, there are stories in the vedas that do condone this. eg. there's one about a sage in the desert who asked lord vishnu for water, then refused it when vishnu came in the form of an untouchable. then vishnu put a curse on all people who discriminate on the basis of caste and said that everyone was equally dear to him.

well, i don't know the exact verse number, but it's about a guy called rantideva. and, sorry, i got the story a little wrong. on looking it up, i realised the sage actually accepted the water and vishnu blessed him for not discriminating.

Actually and avatar is non different then God. The very word Avatar means "the one who descends" So there are different degrees of Avatars and Ram is a lila avatar of Krsna. They are both Vishnu Tattva, Krsna is the source of Vishnu Tattva. Krsna and Ram are nondifferent.

well i have studied vedic culure coming down from Lord Krsna himself through a bonafide sampradaya. I am still learning though. I have my Guru Maharaj and the unbroken chain to thank for that. The way to know the vedas is through Guru, Sadhu and Sastra.

Well, you raised a few interesting points here. I think you should listen to your dad in these matters as well because you are limiting your understanding of God by religion. Sikhism is not as limited as you think. Sri Caintanya Mahaprabhu actually had a conversation with Sri Guru Nanak regarding the similarities and differences between the 2 cultures, perhaps you should follow in the footsteps of your Gurus. God is not limited to any religion.

Well you have misconceptions about hinduism, if you study vedic sastras then you will know that there is no cast by birth. It is a later concoction so i agree with you. In vedic culture you cannot become a brahmin just by birth, but rather by qualities. the purpose of all these ancient stories are very differnt from what you have in mind. Whether hanuman picked up the mountain or not is immaterial- it's the message behind it. whether he picked it up; whether he didn't- howw would it make a difference to us today anyway? With most ancient hindu scriptures you have to read between the lines. The purpose of Hanuman's picking up the mountain was to display how loyal he was to Ram and the extents he would go to for his sake.
