Reaper is another awesome piece of DAW software. It's not technically free, although you can use it for free as long as the guilt doesn't get to you. But even if you choose to pay for it, which I advise you to do, it's only $60, which is an AMAZING price considering the functionality. It does about 90% of what Pro Tools does, and it does a bunch of stuff Pro Tools doesn't at 1/10th the cost. I actually use Audacity WITH Reaper, as the Audio editor, since Reaper is a non-destructive editor.
@CaptainCocaine which do you use as your general software and which do you use as editing. I am using reaper as my general software cuz i can do more with it and i want to use audacity as my editor but i dont know how to sync them up. help would be apprectiated
@truthamedia Reaper is my main DAW and Audacity is my external editor. Go to Options>Preferences, then scroll down to the bottom of the list in the left pane, and select "External Editors". Then click Add, and Browse to the Audacity executable. Audacity is my only external editor, so I left the File Type and Secondary editor fields blank. Now when you right click on a waveform, you have the "Open items in editor" option.
@100blockshawty Hey..I think i can help u on that. Just download adicity and u can do all that, and then just save as Wav or Mp3 and u can export it anywhere
@VanillaGorillaVlogs Mucic you can legally put on youtube would be your own original stuff or something you have permission for. Which most artists really don't care about, just the record labels which want money. So, yes, you could use it for music you can put on Youtube. Which isn't actually what you're asking. But if you google you can find tricks to upload any song to Youtube.
this is fucking dumb ok you cam mix so what will do when it comes to guitar nothing butt if if you stop being so cheep Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 4 only 99.00 and you get guitar fx all in one program all you do is plug the guitar in clean it play the fx lmfao butt if you would like your recording to sound like shit than use the audacity

@killbot4590 Fl studio is good, its a really user freindly interface but it has bad automation, Cubase however has really good automation but its slightly confusing at first but once you get used to it, it gives a professional and crisper sound :) i have both but i would go with cubase :)
I have a question... Do any of the programs record multiple mics that are plugged directly into a laptop? Im cheap and i want to try a few Rock Band mics. If anyone can help, that would be amazing.
ive found a program for $30 that does just as much and gives the same quality as PROTOOLS. hit me up ina private message for the link they gave me a 75% off coupon. ive been tryin for months tryin to get somethin free lol dont waste your time guys !! just trying to help.
@ZachMacc381 ever heard of The Pirate Bay? and btw you can install as many programs as you want but you need to spend time and effort on learning these stupid programs to get some music out of them...they are so friggin complicated and the learning curve is very steep
Audacity is a free open source software which means that developers contribute their ideas to improve this software. They know it's not perfect and as with anything there is always going to be a better program somewhere and as the PC musician matures, he/she is always going to find the need for better, enhanced recording software. As for the beginner, Audicity is an excellent place to start. If you want software that sucks, go to NCH software.
@Brandonrobocop The only person who's a f***ing retard here is you. How about getting your lazy arse up, earning some money and getting decent stuff instead of sponging free stuff from internet or downloading programs illegally?
Why do people keep patronizing Audacity?! It's soooo shit. Try Guitar Rig by Native Instruments. It is expensive but you get an amazing program full of amazing features + an actual pedal / DI box with it!
@hubertson93 Well there you go retard, people get audacity cause it is free, ofcourse if you pay money for a recording program it will be better, thats a given.
Ive gotten excellent sound out of Mixcraft 5.2, using a ton of vst's, like Guitar Rig 5 pro, EZ Drums w/ metalheads add on and using Mixcraft's VIT's get awesome strings and sytnhs...have done a whole CD and alot of stuff for the school I work it, great program for the $75, lots of free vst's out there for vocals, guitar etc...extremist and guitar rig 5 pro being best!
@HeyItsRIOT its pretty much everything you need to record... nothing fancy about it. It looks like protools in my honest opinion (im ready for all the hate)

@MusicRecordingSoftwa Can you please help.I have just started using Audacity to record rock lead guitar onto some backing tracks(guns n roses etc)but am having serious problems when playing back the mixed recording. The volume level of my miked up amp through the alesis mixer is o.k through my earphones until I record a piece then play back the mixed piece and the guitar is so loud it's untrue.I can barely hear the backing track only my guitaring eventhough it sounded a good mix when recording.
@TheRealDonald my guitar teacher is a major in sound mechanics as well as music theory, he uses pro tools,
THE BEST recordng software that is known to planet earth, but it costs money i think, and also i think you have to go to school for it.....but if you have done that then your good!
@TheRealDonald Pro Tools is the top of the line recording software used in studios, it works great, has many plug ins and is very high quality but with that comes high cost.
@TheRealDonald Fuck what anybody says, LT 10 studios producer edition is the BEST THEIR FUCKING IS. 200 bucks, or free if you make a contract with soundcloud or others. Or if you cant scrap up 200 bucks there is REAPER for 50. Or for a free program, kinda sucks, but Mu.Lab
@mojoj87 Yh, I'm pretty sure, u just need some plugins to do it real fancy. there is tons of videos on youtube that shows how to do it, and I'm sure there is video swell showing how to upgrade it :)
Adobe Audition its really user friendly and a really nice DAW and if you ask me its better them Pro Tools, and for the ones who dont know this Pro Tools was actually a knock off of Cool Edit Pro witch is the old version of Adobe Audition
Audacity it amazing, and I work professionally, I don't use it to make music, I don't use it to make works of art. No. I use it to record off my mixers, and instruments as loops, or samples. I also use it to record samples from the internet.. If you want something to produce music for free..... LMMS.
Look people, it's free so it's not good? No, it' free and OPEN SOURCE. Go look for plug-ins you ninnies!
You can't say Audacity sucks. It's perfect for quick edits you need for school projects, and some slightly higher-level stuff. Plus, IT'S FREE. No one is making you spend money on it, so quit your complaining.
this is a great program to make references.. its common sense, you don't want to be limited then you have to spend money for it. music production is expensive+plug ins etc..
Hey everyone! I'm an 11 year old girl form Australia, and I have just started mixing songs. My account on clubcreate//com is Kgoleon, and I would really appreciate it if you checked out some of my 'tracks'. Thank you, please thumbs up.
@TheMarsLegend this latency is caused by your audio card. You need to upgrade it to better one if you want to decrease the latency. You can purchase such audio cards for around 30-40 bucks

What is the best software to mix music files, cross fade songs and burn them to cd?
I just bought MixMeister Pro. It blends songs togetherand let the rhythm flow from one song to the next.
However, after a while, it changes the BEAT RATE of the songs, making the songs play faster.
I need a software that will retain the Beat rate of the songs and let me burn the songs to cd.

Adobe Audition its really user friendly and a really nice DAW and if you ask me its better them Pro Tools, and for the ones who dont know this Pro Tools was actually a knock off of Cool Edit Pro witch is the old version of Adobe Audition
good Luck

Audacity it amazing, and I work professionally, I don't use it to make music, I don't use it to make works of art. No. I use it to record off my mixers, and instruments as loops, or samples. I also use it to record samples from the internet.. If you want something to produce music for free..... LMMS.
Look people, it's free so it's not good? No, it' free and OPEN SOURCE. Go look for plug-ins you ninnies!

I cant say it is best in recording, but i can say, it is best in editing audio. :)
meryll0905 5 months ago
You can't say Audacity sucks. It's perfect for quick edits you need for school projects, and some slightly higher-level stuff. Plus, IT'S FREE. No one is making you spend money on it, so quit your complaining.

this is a great program to make references.. its common sense, you don't want to be limited then you have to spend money for it. music production is expensive+plug ins etc..

Audacity was good but while I was recording half way through it would stop working. I wouldn't recommend it...

Hey everyone! I'm an 11 year old girl form Australia, and I have just started mixing songs. My account on clubcreate//com is Kgoleon, and I would really appreciate it if you checked out some of my 'tracks'. Thank you, please thumbs up.

Audacity can work a treat, if you know it back to front and mix the audio down for the best possible sound quality :)

i have audacity its ok, but the audio comes in late, can anyone please please please tell how how to adjust sum so it can record on time...thanks
TheMarsLegend 7 months ago
@TheMarsLegend this latency is caused by your audio card. You need to upgrade it to better one if you want to decrease the latency. You can purchase such audio cards for around 30-40 bucks
