As 98sibuna said a few comments below -what gives with the blocking of viewers outside the USA ? What a total wank !
I had to come back into YouTube on a proxy with a USA IP just to view this damn video !
Then comment via the channel viewer screen, because if I try and get comments up via the grid view it blocks that..
So Australia -my current location -and all Europe etc is BLOCKED -Why ? I tried a German proxy -nope.. total wankery.. until a few weeks ago I could watch normally.. grrr

Does a Libertarian have any idea about the actual social situation in California? It doesn't seem like they do. Libertarians seem to think Welfare and social programs are horrible... yet, without these social programs for the poor we would see another LA riot scene ALA 1992.
I'd like to hear what Penn has to say to the fact that his videos are only available to people inside us, and not to the rest of the world.
Since he advocates free speech, I'm curious what he has to say about this. I know about copyrights and what not, so even if the video where he answers this question would be only available to people inside US, I'm fine with it.
Im interested if he knows about this, and if he's ok with it? Just a brief answer would do.

Making millions on his tedious Viacom network tv mess isn't enough. Now he floods YouTube w/ pretentious bloviating. The promise of YouTube is no more mainstream media gatekeepers. You post a video, people respond, it's a dialogue. This fat Vegas hack has a butt boy to screen his comments so his feelings don't get hurt. He & the suits at Sony don't get it, and the cryptkeeper who owns his tv show, Sumner "Nosferatu" Redstone, has his winged monkeys trying to seize YouTube as we speak.
I've had a question to ask you for a long time, everyone knows what you think about religion, but you only ever seem to talk about the well known religions, what do you think about Paganism?
he must be a cokehead to stop and pause the video when the guy talkign about nine eleven says fake terrorist attack, and he commentates "so now its a fake conspiracy cooked up by a real conspiracy". For him to have to put words in that guys mouth in order to talk shit about him, well penn must have been too much coke or too much rubbing with the right wing.
Let me get this straight, You're a Libertarian Atheist, who by all definition, should be vehemently against censorship. More so, as an atheist you're probably interested in constantly learning (which is how most atheists get to their position, not sure about how you got there).
Yet, you have a guy, Robbie, who censors out comments, and you don't read interviews and the like which could better help you as a performer. Sports stars watch themselves on video to find their mistakes, why don't you?
I'm sure he's got more stimulating ways of accessing knowledge than sifting through the inane blather of random youtubers and tweeters.
Most of YouTube can't even manage a grammatically correct, coherent thought. I'm not saying everyone on YouTube is an idiot, but I can't imagine any say person sifting through hundreds of thousands of random comments about their posts thinking, "Yay, what a way to spend a sunny afternoon!" :)
Sure, there would be some gems, but not all. Give em' a break.
Not buying it. Basically what Pen wants us to believe is anything written about him he is not capable of figuring out the meaning for himself. So Penn is either retarded or a liar. Not very convincing..
First, you went over this a while ago in another Penn Says.
Second, I love your house, but that room with the glass is an echo chamber. You should avoid doing these in it because it sounds like crap.
Finally, reading other people's comments on you is a great way to get an outside perspective of yourself and maybe learn something about how (one guy in) the world perceives you, because there may be others who think as they do.
I also know you probably won't see any of my comments but that's ok
His point about people really only knowing him through the media makes sense. He couldn't possibly respond seriously to that kind of thing without really knowing how he is being perceived by others - and then he would likely just be correcting a lot of inaccurate misconceptions about himself.
Actually Penn clearly stated this in one of his other Viewer Mail Videos and in fact durring an arguement with another YouTuber I pointed this out and the fool wouldnt believe me......lol
I hope he saw himself in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' as an obnoxious carny-style barker. It was only for about six seconds but it always makes me smile.
So now, subscribers, realizing that their comments are less likely to be read, begin to refrain. Crackle or whatever start to put pressure on Penn not to be so truthful... Ah, you finish the story.
Honestly Penn, before I knew you had this channel on youtube (and crackle), I had only seen you (and Teller) on BULLSHIT, and I had this image of you being this big, "I have no god, nothing bothers me", untouchable, tough guy image. I still read all my comments on my channel :) so don't forget to rate and subscribe and also add me as a friend :) Thanks Penn for being Honest even though your not going to read this either :)
Robbie (did I spell it right?) just tell Penn for me that I find his sincerity about himself a breath of fresh air. Although I certainly disagree with some of his views about God, I can still respect someone who speaks without filter. Many "Christians" have been proven less sincere so for what it's worth let Penn know I appreciate how genuine he is. I don't have to wonder if he really thinks what he says. I trust that he does. Also Penn, great working with you at rehearsal for Identity. Peace!
everyone, everywhere I posted considered me a douchbag, then I might want to investigate their claims and see if I do have a character flaw. But no one truly knows us as good as ourselves, even my wife of 10 years can not always figure me out.
You're such a douche bag, lol. j/k. I know I'm arrogant, but it's not a flaw to me. It's part of what makes me who I am. It is a recognizable trait, good or bad, that people identify me with.
Maybe he knows who he is and what his traits are. Maybe he likes who he is and doesn't want to hear people telling him he needs to change.
In other words, a character flaw may not be a flaw to him as it isn't to me. It may be part of how people identify him separate from others. No sheep.
I know the feeling. I've posted comments on political videos, both left-leaning and right-leaning, that I disagree with and end up being hated and branded as either a bleeding heart liberal or a crackpot right-winger depending on what video I've commented on-go figure!
Hey Robbie!!! You are awesome, wonderful, great, skilled, talented, and charming.
/end asskiss
From watching this, it seems to me that Penn thinks of himself as being easily persuaded.
For me, it is not so much of what others say about me, but more about why. Whether it is positive or a negative statement, most people are strangers to me so their personal opinion of myself holds little value and I find it silly that people become offended by such comments.
Hey Penn. I hope this is one of the comments you will get. I was watching some old episodes of Bullshit recently and you mentioned on the show that you wanted to explore Carl Jung, and his ideas (This was in the opener of the episode on circumcision). I have always found your insights intriguing, and as a student of psychology, I would still love to hear your thoughts on Carl Jung and Jungian philosophy.
CG Jung was very intelligent. Unfortunately, he still applied basic religious principles to his works. He was still working with the idea that everyone has a destiny predetermined. He believed that people had a certain purpose in life and needed to find out what it is.
I don't believe he understood "learned behavior" in humans. Everything you are is learned. You decide what learned behaviors you apply to your life based on personal wants and how you were raised.
He has a similar outlook on fans as TOOL has with theirs. TOOL doesn't read reviews or fan mail to avoid the rockstar ego. Penn does it because.......... I'm not sure. Couldn't pull a reason out of his explanation on this ramble. I'm guessing it's similar reasons?
Is that his quote? I know he doesn't and says he hasn't had alcohol or drugs. If it's his quote, then he's using his freedom of choice to not participate in someone else choices. That would be the point of less censorship and more personal responsibility.
If you don't like it, don't participate in it. Religious, you could take a lesson from that one instead of trying to make the world follow your beliefs by law. Freedom of choice.
Yes that is his quote. And I have heard of at least one instance he has done this making quite a scene. I agree that this is his personal choice but come on, he's a celebrity, he is at social events or gatherings more than most of us. Just seems like a strange rule. If he wants to abstain from alcohol fine, but to not ever want it around him is kinda odd.
Perhaps he's afraid that he will fall for the temptation to drink or whatever. If it's against his beliefs, than it's best to avoid it all together. You wouldn't go to a crack house if you didn't use it would you?
Making a scene would be ridiculous, unless people were trying to make him stay when he was ready to leave. Maybe this is why you don't see him at the Hollywood parties and etc.
Good points all, I would still like to hear Penn actually tell it like it is. Obviously this could be an issue where the press made something out of nothing.
You're half-assing the medium, Penn. You're treating it like a TV show. I've got a few thousand subscribers of my own and you don't know what you're missing by not commenting in your own threads. It's illuminating. Let alone the myriad other ways to engage and bond with your audience and peer vloggers.
I think this may be why your views greatly underperform your subscriber count. You can treat YouTube like it's TV. You can also use a gun to club people, or tap morse code into your phone.
but doesnt that just kind of blow out of the water what this whole thing is all about? ican understand not reading all of them but reading none sounds a bit arrogant i know it will not make a bit of difference but i am going to unsubscribe
Yeah but I think he felt the need to explain himself. If he'd just said that people might have felt like he didn't care what they thought, or it was an ego thing, and it seems like the exact opposite is true.
Recently watched an old episode of the great BS show, and I am wondering if your opinion has changed on the subject of the death penalty. The reason this has come to mind, is that in the legalize marijuana video, Penn touches on not liking the idea of paying for jail time when it comes to drug crimes, but what about the exorbant amount of money to house, feed and basically care for those psychos who, if given the opportunity, would brutally murder again. Old subject but would love a comment plz
Serial killers maybe but most people who have killed don't look at it like hey neato I killed and it was better than sex. I'm gonna do it again as soon as I get out.
Would some people? sure but not all of them or even a majority of them.
"what about the exorbant amount of money to house, feed and basically care for those psychos who, if given the opportunity, would brutally murder again."
death row is more expensive than giving someone life in prison.
Wanting to have sex with guys does not make one gay. If a person only wants to have sex with guys and not girls then he is gay. But if a guy is attracted to other guys as well as girls then he is bisexual.
I think you are on the right track, but I don't think such a binary label works. People are not either gay, straight, or bisexual.
Everyone's sexuality is more like a spectrum. I am what is colloquially known as a straight male, but I'd say I'm more like 90% straight.
The only way to be truly happy is to be honest with yourself, and decide whether or not you are attracted to a person before you worry about their gender. If it turns out you only find one gender attractive then that's fine.
I'm going to assume you are a straight male. I apologize if I'm wrong.
What I am saying is it is better to have a healthy attitude toward your sexual preferences rather than trying to fit them in to obsolete preconceptions of normalcy.
If people were honest with themselves about what they wanted you wouldn't find guys like Ted Haggard gay bashing in his ministry for decades and then being found out as a closet homosexual.
Dishonesty with yourself leads to repression, which is unhealthy.
Yes, honestly if very important. If you enjoy to take big hard penis up your anus then do not hide it, take pride in it. For example, I think that Penn Jillette is hot and I am not embarassed to admit that. I also think that TheAmazingAtheist is another sexy guy that I might have buttsex with if offered a chance, but I am not embarrased to admit that.
My dream is to be a bisexual polygamist with wives and husbands.
He's using psychology here, he doesn't read your comments but someone else does and filters out the interesting ones. Now everyone is going to sit around try to think of the most interesting thing that could get the attention of Robbie Knievel so he will get Penn to comment. Meanwhile, Robbie is probably hammered thinking about his next jump and just randomly chooses some comments. This way, when Robbie randomly chooses the comments he'll have some interesting ones at least.
Haha, now you're getting all kinds of silly questions about buying tubas and paying for college. I enjoy your stuff, we're on the other end of the political spectrum, but we agree on a lot. I guess we're not totally opposite, I'm a communist, but I'm an anarcho-communist, so I believe in the whole to each, from each, with as little government interference in our personal lives as possible.
There are 2 forms of art: The art that the artist creates, and the art an observer experiences & appreciates or criticizes.
I convey a thought to you, but you read these words and whatever neurons fire off in your brain, you're interpreting what I say in a manner I did not anticipate. It might be close enough to where I get my point across, but there's never any guarantee.
What Penn says and what we hear are two completely different things, while simultaneously they are one and the same.
"This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions. "
-Again... why are some blocked but others not ? Why are ANY blocked ? This is Australia, not North Korea (I think..) -now I have to go to CRACKLE and watch it there.... jeeez.
Robbie, are you a libertarian atheist, and if not, Penn, why didn't you get someone who thinks more like you do to find comments that you'd find interesting?
I guess I'm asking because I hope the answers are "No," and "Okay, you're hired."
Funny thing, when I first saw Penn, I thought he was a pro-wrestler with his own show. lol, doesn't he look like he could easily go WWF on someones ass?
Coen. The correct spelling (if we're talking about the guys, Ethan and Joel is it? who made Fargo ) is Coen. Would you like to hire a proofreader?
How immediate and warm Penn's persona is, like a guy we personally know actually talking to us, despite the distancing he feels he needs between himself and his viewers, himself and his own work as a performer. Seems kind of anomalous in this medium where so many of of us performers and producers and viewers enjoy interracting across that divide.
I think I'm pretty safe in saying Penn DOES in fact life in the "real world" like the rest of us. There's not many people who are celebrities like Penn, and Teller, in fact, who go out in public, and seem to embrace it.
They are two of the most down to earth people you could have the pleasure of meeting, and they actually LISTEN to you when you talk to them.
It's nice to know you can be real, and a celebrity at the same time.
PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE PENN JILLETTE
I can understand not wanting to be influenced by others perceptions and opinions. Most celebrities have people who manage their media stuff and let them know what they need to know. It's a perk, one of the ways that they dont live "in the real world" like the rest of us.
Hey guys, I understand your frustration with not being able to see our videos. Unfortunately, Crackle's content is only available in the US...our apologies for the confusion.
I doubt it. It involves that pesky net neutrality thing. And I'm guessing that you really don't care. At all. Also I'm confused with the fact that I can see almost all other vids here AND the fact that this USA-Only policy is not stated anywhere (at least obvious) AND the fact that this issue has been brought up again and again and ...

Fuck Penn Jillette he's a godless Government hatin' Sex pervert who faps to Gay Furry Porn of Tails and Sonic yiffng 11 times a day and Blows up Government buildings and Churches.
This reminds me a lot of Margaret Cho. She went from hysterical to entirely unbearable to me over the course of her career.
At the start, her jokes were about personal experiences and the stupidity therein. Her latest comedy special I saw on cable it was obvious to see how she was trying to hard to appeal to, and appease the sensibilities of every single person within range of her voice. Her jokes weren't personal any more, but rather carefully constructed panderings.

CyberDraco 2 years ago
You're such a douche bag, lol. j/k. I know I'm arrogant, but it's not a flaw to me. It's part of what makes me who I am. It is a recognizable trait, good or bad, that people identify me with.
Maybe he knows who he is and what his traits are. Maybe he likes who he is and doesn't want to hear people telling him he needs to change.
In other words, a character flaw may not be a flaw to him as it isn't to me. It may be part of how people identify him separate from others. No sheep.

just because something makes you who you are doesnt mean its not a flaw

I know the feeling. I've posted comments on political videos, both left-leaning and right-leaning, that I disagree with and end up being hated and branded as either a bleeding heart liberal or a crackpot right-winger depending on what video I've commented on-go figure!

I still would think ill of myself if
CyberDraco 2 years ago
Hey Penn. I hope this is one of the comments you will get. I was watching some old episodes of Bullshit recently and you mentioned on the show that you wanted to explore Carl Jung, and his ideas (This was in the opener of the episode on circumcision). I have always found your insights intriguing, and as a student of psychology, I would still love to hear your thoughts on Carl Jung and Jungian philosophy.
happypuke 2 years ago
CG Jung was very intelligent. Unfortunately, he still applied basic religious principles to his works. He was still working with the idea that everyone has a destiny predetermined. He believed that people had a certain purpose in life and needed to find out what it is.
I don't believe he understood "learned behavior" in humans. Everything you are is learned. You decide what learned behaviors you apply to your life based on personal wants and how you were raised.
They were nice ideas though.
MonkeyBallZ214 2 years ago
Then again, so was religion at one point.
MonkeyBallZ214 2 years ago
He has a similar outlook on fans as TOOL has with theirs. TOOL doesn't read reviews or fan mail to avoid the rockstar ego. Penn does it because.......... I'm not sure. Couldn't pull a reason out of his explanation on this ramble. I'm guessing it's similar reasons?
MonkeyBallZ214 2 years ago
Robbie,
Can Penn do a Penn Says on this quote.
"If I go out to dinner with you and you order wine, I leave. I won't be around drugs and alcohol at all."
I thought Penn was more of a lover of rights and freedoms not some crackpot celebrity with strange eccentricities.
Just wondering.
larrysupersport 2 years ago
Is that his quote? I know he doesn't and says he hasn't had alcohol or drugs. If it's his quote, then he's using his freedom of choice to not participate in someone else choices. That would be the point of less censorship and more personal responsibility.
If you don't like it, don't participate in it. Religious, you could take a lesson from that one instead of trying to make the world follow your beliefs by law. Freedom of choice.
MonkeyBallZ214 2 years ago
Yes that is his quote. And I have heard of at least one instance he has done this making quite a scene. I agree that this is his personal choice but come on, he's a celebrity, he is at social events or gatherings more than most of us. Just seems like a strange rule. If he wants to abstain from alcohol fine, but to not ever want it around him is kinda odd.
larrysupersport 2 years ago
Perhaps he's afraid that he will fall for the temptation to drink or whatever. If it's against his beliefs, than it's best to avoid it all together. You wouldn't go to a crack house if you didn't use it would you?
Making a scene would be ridiculous, unless people were trying to make him stay when he was ready to leave. Maybe this is why you don't see him at the Hollywood parties and etc.
MonkeyBallZ214 2 years ago
Good points all, I would still like to hear Penn actually tell it like it is. Obviously this could be an issue where the press made something out of nothing.
larrysupersport 2 years ago
hey Penn you won't be reading this, but why do you think people watch these videos?
marniespeaks 2 years ago
You're half-assing the medium, Penn. You're treating it like a TV show. I've got a few thousand subscribers of my own and you don't know what you're missing by not commenting in your own threads. It's illuminating. Let alone the myriad other ways to engage and bond with your audience and peer vloggers.
I think this may be why your views greatly underperform your subscriber count. You can treat YouTube like it's TV. You can also use a gun to club people, or tap morse code into your phone.

Wanting to have sex with guys does not make one gay. If a person only wants to have sex with guys and not girls then he is gay. But if a guy is attracted to other guys as well as girls then he is bisexual.
ArtinEmil 2 years ago
I think you are on the right track, but I don't think such a binary label works. People are not either gay, straight, or bisexual.
Everyone's sexuality is more like a spectrum. I am what is colloquially known as a straight male, but I'd say I'm more like 90% straight.
The only way to be truly happy is to be honest with yourself, and decide whether or not you are attracted to a person before you worry about their gender. If it turns out you only find one gender attractive then that's fine.
Phoboskomboa 2 years ago
wow...
I'll have to respectfully disagree...
blindside70 2 years ago
I'm going to assume you are a straight male. I apologize if I'm wrong.
What I am saying is it is better to have a healthy attitude toward your sexual preferences rather than trying to fit them in to obsolete preconceptions of normalcy.
If people were honest with themselves about what they wanted you wouldn't find guys like Ted Haggard gay bashing in his ministry for decades and then being found out as a closet homosexual.
Dishonesty with yourself leads to repression, which is unhealthy.
Phoboskomboa 2 years ago

Penns Personal Barista here..

It was pathetic.
