  • I've just put lyrics for this on lyrics.com. (Not enough room here.) What a stirring song, and so well done.

  • Just got the new cd -Fantastic!

  • A wonderful 'lost' masterpiece. Thanks.

  • Even though Friends gets the most plays I thought this was fabulous. Remember seeing it on The Royal variety Performance but didnt get the record until much later. Very excited about forthcoming CD.This group was way ahead of its time.

  • @louliz2205 True! In fact I listen to those choirs spring up on TV adverts and reality shows these days and wonder if this group had any inspiration involved.

  • @candelise Arrival Complete Collection is released through Cherry Red on the 30th January 2012 it's a double CD.

Both Decca & Sony ( CBS ) recordings, first time ever that they will have been on CD or available for download.

Look out for Frank Collins talking about the release shortly on youtube.

  • Glad to see this group has so many followers - I've now managed to get a copy of both "Friends" and "I will survive". The band did not receive the acclaim they deserved first time round - but I loved them then - as a late teenager - and still find the songs evocative and very moving........don't hear them enough on radio tho.

  • @vintage52 Have you heard the news? A DOUBLE CD called Arrival-The Complete Collection is coming out very soon! I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!! How about you?

  • @candelise Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to keep a look out for it. I love their sound. Keep plugging them - perhaps we can get them played on radio!

  • @candelise Hi - I got my CD two weeks ago and have not stopped playing it since! I can't wait for the summer so I can open my car window and put it on very loud and share it with everyone else! Brings back so many great memories of my teens!

  • @Nanafifi1 I am sure it does! I have it on order right now. I have vivid memories of their appearences on TOTP. I did not expect this stuff to come out again although I did ask around on this site a while back, so I was really pleased to get the news. Still waiting for the interview Frank Collins is supposed to give about the re-release. Is it around yet, anyone?

  • @candelise Hi candelise - yes the interview Frank Collins gave re the re-release is out. It's only very short - just over a minute. I picked it up on my Facebook page, but I'm almost sure it will be on Youtube - I just haven't looked yet. Arrival have their own Facebook page at the moment, so it might be on there if you have a F/B account. Happy listening!

  • i remember buying this record back in early 70s was listening to the radio caroline story and brought many happys memories back timeless still as good mike

  • Magic. Why do we never hear it on the oldies shows? Richard Allan of radio Clyde 2 was decent enough to play it recently. Great show on a Saturday night by the way!

  • Confused??? I haven't wrote anything on here.

  • I remember this song so well. Fabulous harmonies. Takes me back. Have sung it to myself hundreds of times and now it's come to life again through Youtube.

    Thanks for putting on here.

    Wonderful!

  • A truly excellent record that is, sadly, seldom heard on the radio.

  • Got a great tape of a breathless Kenny Everett proclaiming "If I ever heard a number one THIS is it" before playing this terrific song !

  • @wailin1967 funny. I heard that recently too. Shame he was wrong.

  • @wailin1967 would love to get a copy of that - listening to Everett, this and other stuff in 1970 shaped my life and career RJ

  • @bostonsurfboard - ABBA

  • This song has haunted me for years (just listen to those harmonies!) because I couldn't remember who sang it until a month ago; it came like a flash, boy was I relieved. None of my friends knew what I was talking about, but I kept on and on until I found it here. I remembered the words but not the artist. It's amazing.

  • I´m an old man, but this is great, really great.

  • I remember seeing them on the Royal Variety singing this.Brilliant! Hadn`t realised that they went on to Kokomo but have now got Cd s from Amazon - great stuff

  • Fantastic song Great lyrics Timeless masterpeice. Should be re released Great strings wow! Those harmonies are some of the best ever :-)

  • Still wonderful

  • Powerful harmonies!

    Class.

    I remember it well.

Great to hear it again after all these years.

  • I am sure one of this group was from Kirkby just outside of Liverpool. I remember one of my older sisters telling me. This is a fabulous song, I am so pleased that someone has put it on You Tube, I thought it was lost forever! How this group can be describe as "from London" on Wikipedia when most of the line-up are from Liverpool is beyond me!!!

  • to think that Mungo Jerry got number one at the same time that this was in the charts is there any real justice in the world well maybe not in pop music

  • Does anyone know where I can get hold of a copy of this??

  • @pearlupthejunction ebay?ive just got a copy there

  • Yes, it was played by Dale (Pick of the Pops BBC Radio 2 today).

    Sounded great on the stereo.

  • Well, I can hardly believe this classic first charted in the UK just about 40 years ago.

I wonder if Dale will play it on the radio this coming Saturday.

  • Earth & Fire were excellent. I used to be glued to the Dutch service of Radio Veronica and Radio North Sea International during my 'long-haired' days stuck in front of college studying books (circa 1972-74).

The lead singer Jerney Kaagman had a fantastic voice. I bought their album on 33rpm (Song of the Marching Children). My favourite of theirs was 'Love of Life' in 1974.

They were never played on United Kingdom radio stations, along with countless others.

  • Good old RNI...... I wonder how much Stimorrol gum I bought from the adverts.........."stimorrol is the sportsman's gum" etc!! Regrettably RNI (advertising) also led to me smoking Kent cigarettes (remember those ads too?) Thankfully I eventually wised up (and stopped smoking). I actually managed to source the Earth and Fire Greatest Hits CD from NL a couple of years back! Hey Ho, memories from one's youth.

  • Reminded of this by Tony O'Malley's big multi part interview.Great to hear it again

  • What a wonderfully evocative track. Like others, I remember it from the Decca World of Hits (The original compilation hit?) albums. A truly beautiful track - what a difference to it's ghastly Gloria Gaynor namesake. Arrival always reminded me of the original (not to be confused with their twee later metamorphis) Brotherhood of Man (United We Stand etc). Anybody remember the Dutch band Earth and Fire? (not Earth Wind and Fire). Again, did some brilliant stuff, never really recognised in the UK

  • So basically this Arrival (not the ABBA album) singing I Will Survive (not the Gloria Gaynor track) and some of this band evolved into Kokomo (not the Beach Boys song)

    No, I don't remember Earth & Fire

  • Great song,I'd Love This On Single,But I Have It On An Album Called The world of Hits Vol 5 on the Decca Label

  • Hi FunkyFrieda,

Thanks for these uploads of 'Arrival'.

Frank, Paddy and Dyan were the vocal group 'The Excels' in Liverpool, and changed their name to 'Arrival' after they had arrived in London and added other musicians, so technically 'Arrival' is a London band. In a week or so on this Tony's channel, is a series of chat videos with Tony that includes 'Arrival' history to add to those of Frank Collins. Well worth a future look.

    Best wishes and thanks,

    TO'M

  • A great song and grossly underrated!

I love the way Carroll Carter's voice comes through at 2.05. A great arrangement. Thank you very much for posting this. It is wonderful to listen to it again after so any years as it brings back many memories.

  • Paddie McHugh. Is unFuck**believable. Please ge this cat on the mainstream.

  • If at first.... I'm with you Debradocolus - we must try and find someone to petition to get Arrival/Kokomo back together, This band/( s) were never given the recognition they deserved - it's only in latter years people have realised how good they really were.

  • To all Arrival fans out there, Now finally this great album is available on CD. for further details and how to get your copy, please contact me through my profile's Send A Message.

  • Superb- been playing this for years, never tired of it. Why was never a really huge hit?

  • great music many thanks for posting.

  • surely someone is wise enough that its time for a best of Arriva/Kokomo CD and MP3 release? anyone know who we petition?

  • this may be the best pop song ever ok collins and was at the first gigs

  • A thing of beauty.

  • The vocals and bass guitar are outstanding. I remember it having heard it in Top of the Pop where this song peaked at number 16. I never found it on any compilation!!! Does it exist? and in STEREO? (I am probably asking too much...)

  • No...I don't think so.

  • I saw that US promo single in an eBay auction and it is said that the A side is mono and the B side stereo...

  • I loved this when it charted in the UK during the summer of 1970.

I bought it on 45rpm and it is hardly ever played on the radio.

    A fabulous song.

  • I bought a copy of it about a year ago on Ebay after searching specifically for it. The only 45 I've bought in decades!:)

  • fantastic song gr8 harmonies thanx for the posting brings back lovely memories

  • What memories this brings back. This was the first single I ever bought, long since lost. Fantastic to hear it again after many years. Thanks for posting this.

  • Thankyou for posting!!!

  • definetly one of the greatest songs ever to come out of the uk.

    A TIMELESS MASTERPEICE.

  • @godivor does anyone know where I can get hold of this....I have been searching for most of my life!!! thanks

  • Hey my Dad was the bass player for arrival! Never knew there was stuff posted up on YouTube!

  • You should check out the new clip of them singing 'Friends' on Top Of The Pops in 1970.

  • remember seeing kokomo at hyde park many moons ago

  • anyone know if the lyrics to this are on the net thanks

  • I still have their first album on vinyl. The cover has them all standing alongside a helicopter.

It's a pity nothing is available on CD.

  • What a great find - the greatest Arrival song was called Let my life be your love song in 1971 which I sadly no longer have. This should have become a great standard of modern times.

  • I luckily still have (Let my life be) Your love song. If I can put it on YouTube, I will. I remember them singing "I will Survive" on Deetime (with Simon Dee) on the BBC way back in the late 60s. Brilliant singing.

  • "(Let my life be your) love song" by Arrival is on youtube now.

  • Please someone put on a video, just to pleas e my husband who gets all nostalgic over this one.

  • He has good taste.

  • There was footage of Kokomo singing "I Can Understand It" in their studio which was on OGWT back in the 70's - but sadly I haven't got it ,has anyone else? - brilliant band

  • I asked if this OGWT 'I Can Understand It' existed anywhere - no-one seems to know. We have a recent version recorded in May that you might be interested in, with the Kokomo singers, and Tony and Mel - plus other stuff by Arrival/Kokomo. And 6 vids of Frank talking about his time inside and outside the band.

  • There are only two bands I care to remember from the 70's, Little Feat and Kokomo. I have boots, now MP3d, of various Feats concerts which keep me sane on long distance drives; today I record orchestras, sadly I had no gear back then but I have great memories. A&R people are no smarter today than they were then. Did you ever do an OGWT, Tony?

  • @Lydia637

Yes they did. It was just called Arrival and it was on the Decca label, released in 1970. If you like this record you'll love the LP.

  • thankx for posting - takes me back.

  • It's been 38 years since i used to put money in the juke box in the Queens Hotel to listen to this gem of a record, me, Peter and Colin.

  • Yes, its a shame that they were all gay,I used to fancy their Tony O,Malley.

  • I'm pretty sure my Dad, the bass player, who has been married for 36ish years isn't gay... He also taught Phil Lynett to play guitar and was a great friend of his until the end.

  • This band was ahead of it's time

the singers Dyan Paddie and of course Frank brought class to every track they worked on for many years.

Thank you for putting these tracks up there, they sound as fantastic today as they did when 1st released, why oh why are they not singing, you are missed

  • Tony O'Malley is still 'at it.' Dyan Birch was at Tony's gig at the 606 Club last Oct 6th. She didn't sing though unfortunately.

  • Did The Arrival ever make an album? I recall watching them perform this song on Top Of The Pops. I loved the song then as now!

  • Yes...I know of 2 albums...not on CD yet, though.

  • Frank Collins is one of rock's unrecognized geniuses.

What a great band, they were killer live! Where is the TOTPs footage of this stuff, or their Isle Of Wight 1970 performance?

  • Excellent. Thank you!

  • What a nostalgic trip, have not heard of this one in years. nor of 'fiends' apparently 'i will survive' was banned by the good old Beeb during the Gulf War.

I would really love to see/hear any Kokomo footage that the great u tube community may have kicking around ? keep up the good work.
