  • i think it's a little ironic that there are ads in the beginning of this video.

  • RTI Radio Television Iberoamericana es el ejemplo televisivo a seguir

  • occupy EVERYTHING and then consume it all......the last one not eaten wins....

  • Right, they have only good intentions for you all.

  • consume cannabis, not TV!

  • @masterbateur consume magazines not tv an not drugs

  • If only the truth was expressed more often.. . Some great ads there, thought provoking and meaningful. It's good to see people are evermore waking up from the stench of thier demise.. .

  • I love how before watching this, I was forced to view a commercial for chocolate milk that featured music by Aretha Franklin singing about 'freedom'.

  • Oh, the sweet irony of being forced to watch commercials before anti-consumerist uncommercials...

  • kill your tv

  • I have to watch a fucking Covergirl ad just to see this.

  • @censorshipisthedevil Ironic shit ain't it?

  • Adbusters - USA, buy buy nothing day

sponsored by the hollywood film industry - HA

  • I'm all for this in my heart of hearts. Then I stopped and asked myself: "what does the adbusters founder do for a living? Does he not support the economy in ANY way? where are his clothes from? what does he drive? Does he go to a grocery store? I'm unfortunately certain one wouldn't have to dig deep for hypocrisy. Please, someone disagree with me, prove me wrong, something...?

  • @GuitarGare... what does it matter what 'he' does for a living? where 'he' gets his clothing from? or what 'he' drives? 'He' probably does a lot for a living and adbusters probably doesn't make much for 'him' especially seeing as (according to its website) it's a not-for-profit magazine. It's unfortunate that you automatically look for hypocrisy in order to ignore the idea. After all, it's only one day.

  • @themutualobserver -I re-read my post and saw the ambiguity of what I was getting at, but covered in another post. What I'm simply asking for is the WHOLE ANSWER re: commercialism. If one like this fellow is speaking out against these things, then give us total answers and alternatives. This is tantamount to a philosophical "dry hump" if you will excuse the street vernacular. How can we all be self sustaining without corporate interference?

  • @GuitarGare - but isn't that asking one person to be the 'Messiah'? And that, through the taking of various steps - one of which perhaps being Buy Nothing Day and the like - we make the corporate world aware of their actions, and maybe, just maybe, begin to shift their paradigm? I don't know. I don't have the answers.

  • @themutualobserver I guess the first step is clearly defining our own view, whatever it might be-I watched "The Corporation"-a 3 hour documentary that helped me a bit, but in the end, I was frustrated by the "circumstantial gridlock" that we all find ourselves in. If the adbusters people are putting themselves out there as a Messiah on this issue, (big if)

then give everyone a point by point solution. Otherwise, folks are just spinning their wheels. Frankly, what mankind has become scares me.

  • Damn, I suddenly feel like smoking.....I'll be back in five minutes!

  • Why do corporations have more rights than people? Why do we call our economic system "capitalist" when the biggest recipient of welfare is the corporate sector? "Capitalist" corporations take no risk because the tax payer bails them out if they lose their ventures. They just call it "Corporate subsidies" so that the average citizen doesn't know they are being pick-pocketed. We are well trained to knee-jerk at the words like "welfare" but not big words like "subsidies".

  • "I believe that nicotine is not addictive" = "I don't give a fuck, all I want is profit!"

  • Are Mexicans no longer North Americans?

  • Technically they're Central America.

  • Mexico is absolutely part of North America, not Central America. Additionally, Central America is a geographic region that is considered part of the North American continent.

  • @10ccalanarkush ... No. Mexico is a part of North America.

  • @yuko007 LMAO. good point

  • @yuko007 yep North America

  • One day of not shopping makes no difference... do most people shop every day anyway?

  • nicotine is not addictive, its the other additives in cigarettes which make them addictive, so even under oath they dont have to lie saying its not addictive. They need to ask the question of weather they think cigarettes are addictive.

  • riiiight, so it's the 'other stuff' in nicotine gum that satisfies the craving? yaaaa....

  • @zacknolanwinters You get tpdays moron badge. Congratulations you fucking idiot. =)

  • its funny that these lame hippies on this comment thread who profess fairness and freedom of expression will hide my logical comments just because they do not agree with them

  • it's funny that someone as logical as you would stoop to calling them lame hippies.

  • PLEASE , i CAN'T GET ADBUSTERS MAGAZINE IN BELGIUM WHERE I LIVE AND AM LOOKING FOR AMERICAN PERSON OR ENGLISH WILLING TO SELL THEIR OLD ONES FOR A

    REASONABLE PRICE PUHLEASE !!!!!

  • at 2:05 the guy said in French "the 26" instead of "the 29th November"

  • I think it depends what year the report is from, since BND falls on the friday, no matter the date.

  • well I buy nothing everyday, I don't have any money ! hurray !!!!

  • I do it all the time, it's not that hard, i actually talk to my family instead. WEIRD

  • did you really think before you wrote this?

a fish CANT live without water, are you saying I cant live without this system?

  • indeed..i think it should be the buy no stupid things day...because accept it..people from the US buy whatever they see..even if they don't need it..

  • you think it's stupid because the pig has choked you.

  • "90's misguided suburban bullshit.

"buy nothing day"? How stupid does that sound now?"

About as stupid as this, if not now to, then give it a few years and it'll become plainly visible. Then everybody'll be like "what can we do about...?"

  • hehe im gonna have a tv turnoff month no tv during july for me!!

  • I haven't watched TV for 10 years, save for boxing programs here and there, and whatever I catch at other people's houses. I truly believe it was the reason people got so swept up in that Weapons of Mass Destruction bullshit. Even die-hard Democrats. When one asked me, "I thought there WOMD. Didn't you...?" I said, "Fuck no!!!"

And he was a pretty intelligent guy, too.

Yeah, turn off that f*cking TV. Peace.

  • There could be a limit on things people can buy.... but its sad because people work hard to make the world a better place but with the hope they will have enough money to consume. If you really put thought into it we are not consuming to live we are living to consume! fucking scary... still the more consumers the more demand the more problems. I really think overpopulation is bad. But! let hope shine. The population rise is over and is now lowering again. (really, do your research)

  • inspiring comment. it almost makes me want to drop out of society altogether when i think about it.

  • ....Buy nothing day?? are you serious?? Do the same people go out every single day to buy stuff?

I mean i have Buy Stuff days actually

  • LOL

''The beauty industry.... IS THE BEAST''

*wierd face, camera zooms in eye*

    lol talk about brainwashing

  • "Feeling lost and empty? consumption shall fill the void..."

    American society in a nutshell...

  • wake up! it's not a dream it real fuck!

  • Comment removed

  • LightWarrior001 is prolly the dumbest, most egotistical and self absorbed person on the planet. completely ignorent to the true nature of his own beliefs, insistant on devolving everything to word games and nonsensical semantics the instant pressed on an issue, then begins the slew of inane and insipid insults and the gaggle of comments regarding his superiority specialness and uniqueness, haha sad thing is these characteristics make him a dime a dozen.

  • fmmetamc, you just make yourself look like the "most egotistical and self absorbed person on the planet" by wanking on with calls such as "nonsensical semantics" and "the slew of inane and insipid insults". Who the fuck are you, some 18th Century bard? You sir are a tosser!

  • wow i feel totally trounced, obviously im a jack ass for possessing a useful vernacular. OH NO!! oh wait, no, my statement was right on the money, and YOU are the jack ass, THAAATS right. is 18th century bard an insult now? hahaha wow how retarded.

  • you just made my day ^^ (btw i also inscribed the youtube page to use a certainly delightful vocabulary to insult the lost and mentally challenged)

  • For those concerned about what buy nothing day means for the economy think about it this way the housing market problems and ecocomic problems as a whole come from individuals and government buying more than they need and spending beyond their means. If we would have been more prudent in the 1st place people will be in sensible homes living modestly not losing lavish homes and moving bk in with mom and dad.

  • Did you know that in Canada we can legally still challenge the Prime Minister to a duel - revolution time bitches. Jokes - I anti violence.

I like turn off your TV week. I never turn my TV on though. Why do it for only a week though hey?

  • lol i watch TV all day long... But watching TV can't be classified truly as a problem. It sure does affect children that haven't yet grasped the maturity to be able to handle commercials but you really have to be ''special'' to be literally affected by them in your 20s.

  • what about lifelong ad campaigns? they are essential pure brainwash and they even work on people who are aware of them, and i think you give the US public too much credit. many people are unaware of phsychological and influential marketing campaigns.

  • We are worried about the econony? Even despite wreckless spending it has left the economy in shambles, and now we have the plante suffering and the rest of the world shaking their head.

  • No, it wouldn't. People still spend a lot on that day. And what's wrong with halting expansion? How far can we really expand?

  • What do we expand?

  • Economic interests. More and more advertising. Tell me, have you noticed that television shows now sport ads taking almost HALF the screen every few minutes or so despite the 20 minutes of actual commercials per hour of programming? I'm talking about economic expansion. Globalization. The need for more, indefinitely. The push on consumers to go into debt to buy things we don't need.

  • I agree, they perk up the demand by those ads. Ive watched Fight Club, they really said the things i was thinking. How can we cure this herd of millions of consumers?

  • The only action I can think of to quell this problem is complete reassembly of civilization as we know it. A global revolution. Thomas Jefferson said it best, "The tree of liberty must from time to time be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure." Also, "I hope we shall crush in it's birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

  • Which way do you want to change the world? Through construction or destruction? Destruction is certainly faster, as Fight Club unrealistically demonstrates. Just food for thought... btw i'm still on the fence

  • hahaha i find it ironic that the 'no TV week' ads are put on TV

  • I do buy nothing day alot.

  • Economists must learn to subtract...

fucking capitalism - it's an abject failure. An unregulated global casino !

  • a litle late.

Whens the next buy nothing day?

  • November 24 in North American and Nov. 25 in Europe I believe. Better double check though.

  • Theres 1 thing i don't understand... When you say buy nothing days you mean literally.. NOTHING? i mean i could go out and buy a pack of cigarettes or some gum.

  • i wish i could celebrate it every day

  • Steal everything day.. everyday.

  • Stealing can get us nowhere... but what the hell! :)

  • it can get us fed... in fact it will get me fed pretty soon i must say....

  • Scary. Very informative.

  • Hopefully people will wake up one day. thanks for posting this collection

  • thanks for posting. spread the word folks, there are more of us than there are of them. start opting out of this mindless and vapid consumer culture, it's not why we're here.

  • Inspiring!

  • Thank you so much for that intelligent compilation of significant messages of common sens.. not that common, in our commercially oriented societies. Merci encore..
