  • This man is simply talented. There is simply no way around it. You may not like the fact that he was discovered on a televised talent show... deal with it critics. He's the "real deal" and we are buying it!

  • Paul's good at his singing You have to remember all the other professionals don't do anything else but sing and well trained for it. Paul also sells mobile phones something out of range for Placido Domingo

  • Y'know, it never ceases to amaze me how many folks take the piss out of people like Paul, and hundreds of others just like him when they themselves couldn't sing a bloody note between them without f***g it up bigtime.

Until YOU've been there and tried it, don't comment on others' abilities - everyone's a singer in their own bathroom, and that's where it should stay.

  • Regardless of fact he's sung in..er.. no operas,he is just not a good singer! Singers at first year music college better than him technically. That's the real issue.Pathetic he gets millions of hits on here and there's miles better classical singers who the masses don't bother with 'cause they are'nt on junk UK tv with a phone in.

If you take time to listen to my videos of real singers eg.Winbergh,Trost,Wunderlich,Alagna,Florez, you will a hear huge difference in quality.

  • Im just wondering, if these people do not like Paul Potts, why do they watch his videos? Personally I love him, and I have loved him since he joined the show that put him where he is now. He is terrific, and a fantastic singer. Simply perfect in everyway i can think of :)

  • not my thing but will tell you this i was there shopping that day and hell this guy can sing

  • very good powerful love it.

  • Anyone who says that this guy isn't terrific is just a typical ever so boring hater.

  • what we focus is not his singing, it is the unique personality of Paul that insprie everyone to persue their dreams.

  • If you go see this man in concert, you will focus on a very talented singer.

The critics are often armchair, angry people who vent their nastiness on you tube, and sometimes opera singers without recognition, who may not like from where Paul Potts has come, when they themselves may have had the best workshops and studies many years.

  • For those discussing the virtues of Paul's voice OR those elements that need attention please realize once again he is NOT an opera singer. As to going to a mall and singing...big deal. Any opera singer can do that and would NOT need amplification. Most of those are major acoustic areas. As for Paul's wobbly vibrato..he has support issues and you can still see it in the head wobble. I trust his teacher(s) will continue to work with his breath support for his own benefit.
  • To brunobrandy:

I'm amazed by how ignorant you are. Mr. Potts IS an opera singer because he sings ARIAS. By definition an aria is an operatic song. You MUST sing opera to sing something like "Nessun Dorma", there's no way around it.

  • I must say you're wrong, because it is an opera singer who studied at a conservatory mandatory, and above all a musician who should know a minimum reading score at first glance, to know harmony, counterpoint rule, know all the themes of music because it is a profession with a title. another thing is that opera singer who sings operas whole ...

arias not only ..... and the knight pautts never sung an opera, much less what will.

  • GREAT!!! BUT WRONG PLACE...

  • He does sound better in this... Good job dude. Tension tension tension release release release let your voice come out...

  • I agree, especially 0:47-0:52 sounds pretty good.

If he would just use the faster vibrato he manges on 0:50 i´m sure the frasing would feel even more natural.

While much better than before, its still a bit to much note for note when he falls back into his old wobbly vibrato.

  • Saw him 2 weeks ago.

    Paul is brilliant.

No wobbly vibratos, high notes time after time.

Never seen Pavarotti sing in shopping mall live.

Have you heard his new album.

I do not think those who have tuned their wobbly vibratos will sound better.

Also, Nessum Dorma in concert I saw was far better than here.

    Well done Paul.

  • *Sigh* this was not meant as a Potts sux post, i was just pointing out that his way of starting a note straight and then adding a big vibrato hinders his musical frasing ( connecting several notes basically, more like this: /watch?v=tdL483b4kao )

Hes deffinelty getting better though and I think thats great :)

  • then.."tension?" Should not be while

    singing...tension-release has to do with

the composition of phrases of music in

    order to elicit respones.

  • Must be alot of pop singers in opera houses then.

The boy did good when I heard him live, singing opera songs.

I would say better than most.

    Better live I thought.

I do not think Pavarotti would just step off a plane fron one country to another, sing in a mall, sing without quality amplification, and without a top orchestra.

    All these things contribute.

  • How dare all those monkeys shopping not stop in awe!!!!

  • your right they just don't have great taste in music...they probably must be trippin on some some shit....

  • How much improvement. !!! Paul, are doing right.

  • Rinaldo Viana all day

  • This is not the best Nessum Dorma I have heard Paul sing.

La Prima Volta in Australia and on Cd exce;llent.

E Lucevan Le Stelle amazingon Cd

    Many more.

To listen to his 1st audition was beautiful, but to see so muh improvement shows off the natural talent of this man.

  • Regarding the text accompanying this video, should the second-last sentence of the second-last paragraph read:

"Calaf steps up and says that if she can name HIM, he will die."?

  • Thank you for that have amended it

  • Yeah... you really are good..

  • I think that Potts is far better with opera than with pop music. Of course he's no Pavarotti; Pavarotti was a God, so any comparison is unfair. I've heard trained, professional tenors who can't compare to Luciano. But Potts is a very good singer. His performance, here, is the best I've heard thus far; his technique is improving. I wish him well.

  • Paul Potts will continue to touch all who heart's are open. To those bigots who feel the need to continually compare him to others I simply say how sorry I am for you. This man has touched the hearts of the masses, world wide. He is fantastic and well loved. Why does it bother you so much? Look at the crowd's response!

  • MKlam talks sense, they both sing the song with their own individual expression, its down to the listenener to decide which best suits them.

  • I dont understand why many people wants to compare Paul Potts and Luciano Pavarotti

They are so different opera singers

    Paul Potts touches me more

Is nothing to do with a technique and who from those two is better

I enjoy both they are great singers

  • Paul Potts is not better than anyone, he is simply the best of everyone, and that includes that Italian dude, Provolone, or whatever his name was, oh yes Pavarotti. You just don't like Paul because he isn't a snood, but here in America, we love the man from our mother country, so you critics can stuff it.

  • He was never classically trained from what I have read. It's like finding Pele on an open try out for your soccer team.....it's fricking amazing. I'm not an opera fan but c'mon, he is good.

  • The ONLY reason why the purists don't like Paul is because he's not Italian. I like him, and WILL purchase his CD, end of discussion.

  • Well yeah, paul potts is not as good as Pavarotti, but ...who cares? I am glad Paul is fulfilling his dream to become a professional singer, he´s got a bunch of fans, he´s selling records, he is doing well, What else could he ask for? ...and besides he has plenty of fans in the internet. He is different, he is a web phenomenon, its just another option for the people, and people like him: Comparing him with Pavarotti is an endless discussion without a purpose.

  • Pauls technique is very good now.

You should go see him live.

I saw Pavarotti live, with best orchestra, best amplification.

It was Pauls performance I enjoyed.

    mijcummi

I like that, well not too much.

Everybody sounds good in a recording studio.

You do not like Paul Potts no matter what, that is obvious.

I have no doubt like all the other critics of Paul, you will never be away from the place.

Paul Potts is one addictive drug, and you know its a legal drug.

  • Lots of opera singers on here to day.

Well heres some feed back chuvalduz.

When I saw Paul Potts he was one fantastic singer.

I havn't seen a video of Pavarotti singing in a shopping mall.

Also, who has taken this video?.

Paul sings way better than here.If you don't like his voice chuvalduz, don't listen , but don't tell people who they should and should not like best.

The one I like best is not Pavarotti.

  • I tired to repeat that i like Paul's voice but not his technique. Matching these two singers I can find only one similar thing - the first letter in both surnames is "P".

  • Technically of course Paul Potts is not comparable to Pavarotti. But one can enjoy the music, not the technique. Paul's phrasing is very poetic, and it seems being considered afresh every performance. His closing phrase generally doesn't match Pavarotti's - but that at his first famous Nessun Dorma is perhaps unsurpassed - the orchestra there was also exceptional!

  • Paul Potts sounded incredible in Koln in an arena with 11000 people screaming encore.

He reached those high Cs everytime.

Have you heard him sing La Prima Volta in Australia shopping mall.

Also Pavarotti cancelled quite a bit, his voice had to be right on day.

Did Pavarotti get booed off La Scala once in the early days?.

If Pavarotti started off as at peak, why did he bother with all that training?

Pauls has not been to conservatory, but raw talent .

    Work in progress.

    Keep watching.

  • hahaha...you're funny.

  • i luv paul potts :D he friggin rules :D

  • You really need to compare Paul to Pavarotti at an equivalent stage of his career (not the same age--Pavarotti started younger), not to Pavarotti at his peak, after 20+ years at the top.

  • dear all, if you are really Paul's frends you should not give him mendacious hope, you should give him real feed back like me. Secondly Pavrotti's UNIC voice was inaccessible and unobtainable at all stages of his life .

  • extraordinario

  • Paul, You are so gifted and tender... thank you

  • chuvalduz

Who the bloody hell are you.

Paul Potts I heard in concert live, not in a shopping mall, and he is amazing.

You "GOD" Pavarotti! as you call him, had seven years of top training, and he emotion with his voice never arose for me when I heard him live.

Also Pavarottis CD will be around lot longer in my home than Paul Potts 'Passione'

Reason, I play Pauls CD more, can't stop listening.

  • The snide comments about his voice are just from green eyed wannabees! take him for what he is

  • new pavarotti

  • who the hell you are to say that? Pavarotti was a professional opera singer since his young years. paul potts has been a professional for a few years now. But if he had been proferssional since his early years, he would have been very alike to pavarotti. Paul potts has a brilliant technique for a man who hasnt been professional for a long time

  • Comment removed

  • Actually however cruel I totally agree with you!

Personally I don't think he sings with 'soul' but give him 10 years and I shall see!

  • He is great but he could have hung on to that last note a little longer and it would be perfect!

  • I had never seen this till now, and I just have say, I had tears running down my face. Such wonderful talent. Glad to see everyday people who work hard get a break. Congrats to you and I'll be buying your CD!

  • well paul has sold over 2.5 million albums....so i dont think he will sell phones again...maybe you shud get a dictionary...

I note he takes his time more now when singing.
