  • cute

  • I bought mine second hand, and it's lost it's shine, I want it to be shinnnyyyy again, someone suggested brasso?

  • @ISetTheSkies brasso works really well but takes off the logos

  • @DHxRiotZ thanks man, So it will be shiny again?

that's cool, I know it's a Zil-Bel, could mask over the letters with a knife and tape?

  • The smaller one is better for most applications, I find.

  • Think of it this way, if it didn't sustain so much it wouldn't be heard over the rest of the band. Let alone the drum kit.

  • i hate those cymbals.. too much sustain

  • @estebanskater123 Play them live and they have barely any sustain at all.

  • @Mp5Drummer is not that they have no sustain... you just hear the hit because is really loud... but for a drummer like me that plays really soft things that sustain it has is a big problem

  • @Mp5Drummer Plus pretty much any mic will cut the sustain

  • I have this and its sounds beautiful and loud, this little thing can cut through the messiest noise as well!

  • overrated-bel

  • i guess if you dont too much of a ring do not get this cymbal but if you perfer the ring for certain situations definately get it

  • beautiful sound!

  • Either way sound and look good. Doesn't have too be flipped. You can get different sounds all around bells. not just by hitting it with the side of the stick. youz canz uz thez beads of thez stickz tooz

  • i can do that with my penis

  • don't dampen it with anything. the resonance is perfect for studio and stage. it won't truly cut through the amps and shit dampened.

  • what does it means?!?!?!..@_@

  • Zildjian + Vic Firth = <3

  • Cling!

  • Got mine today, and I actually prefer mounting it this way up. If you hit the edge then it sounds like it does inverted, but I think that's often too "soft" sounding. If you whack the main part of it with the shoulder of the stick you get a much more defined ping, a brighter attack and it's only a TINY bit quieter. I think it's a better way to play it, plus you get the option of hitting it both ways.

  • I just got the A Custom Medium Ride in a pack. Wasn't really a big fan of it since hitting the bell built up wash. So I bought this for $130 instead of buying a new ride. That's why it's good they have a ride bell sound because it saved me $150+

  • how much is it!?

  • This sounds okay, but I prefer any of the 3 Meinl classic bells. Although they are a tad smaller, they seem to blend well with my other cymbals, and are also much cheaper.

  • That thing resonates like a mother-fucker.

  • Hmmm I was wondering how one would incorporate this type of cymbal in their playing. It sounds awesome.

  • @chucktheduck64 I have one i use it all the time

  • is this a good live bell like "devil whears prada? i saw one on ebay for like $20 is that good please get back to me

  • @xrey209 These retail for over $100 dollars so that is a phenomenal deal.

  • What bell is the loudest? In general.., caouse i play alot of metalcore and that kind of music, but also deathcore and progressive metal.. so i want it to "cut through" and really be heard..any suggestions of wich bell i should get? :)

  • @MrCrazyMetalFreak The LOUDEST bell that i've known is a Meinl Soundcaster Custom 22" Mega Bell ride cymbal. Fuck i've tested it and the bell is SO FUCKIING LOUD that i went deaf for a moment... I wouldn't recommend you get it EVEN THOUGH you play metal. Get the Paiste 24" RUDE Mega Power ride cymbal. The bell is also loud and sound better than the Meinl too :)

  • @joshuachan56 Holy shit hahaha thanks, but i meant just a bell you know, not an "actual cymbal" :) I play pretty technical so it´s very nice to have just a bell next to your hihat that you can do the acents on and lots of other awesome stuff ;)

  • What bell is the loudest? In general.., caouse i play alot of metalcore and that kind of music, but also deathcore and progressive metal.. so i want it to "cut through" and really be heard..any suggestions of wich bell i should get? :)

  • just got this yesterday love it

  • loosen your wingnut, it keeps it from cracking

  • Turn it upside down for pure awesomeness :)

  • ITS OPENN!!!!!!!!!

  • In what kind of music do you use these?

  • @LakicGuitar you can play these things nicely in the metal genre. Check out Despised Icon's song A Fractured Hand for example :]

  • I just got my zil bell today, one of the heavy and shiny cymbals

  • gosh that sounds like a sword

  • never was a fan of these zil-bels, i dont understand the craze about them. probably because its zildjian. i love zildjian, i have all zildjian symbols on my kit, i just dont like this bell no matter the size. I think the Sabian Radia Chime and LP bells are a lot better.

  • even with duct tape mine goes on forever :P

  • I've got this Zil-bel, and I want it to be a short Ding rather than it ringing out for ages. I've tryed tightening the stand up, but it still rings for quite a while. any help?

  • @ISetTheSkies try either putting some duct tape on the underside maybe with some tissue under the tape, or you can buy moon gel and put it on the top side

  • @Stephanlovesmusic thanks man, sorted, when playing with the band all you hear is the ding, so it's all good!

  • @ISetTheSkies Unless you play in a band and play shows do not do that because you will need that ring for it to cut through everything also with a full band you won't notice the extra ring.

  • @wiirluvenit yeah I play with a band, just that in bands like asking alexandria, you hear a really nice ping, then thats it,

  • @ISetTheSkies Well for one thats because its in the studio.. But if your talking about seeing them live then theres guitars drums bass vox all going on that your not gonna hear anything but the straight ping.

  • @ISetTheSkies retunr it and get the 6" zil bell

  • @ISetTheSkies trust me, when you're playing gigs, you're gonna be glad it rings out for a while.

  • @ISetTheSkies easiest way would be a little bit of sticky tack on the bottom

  • @ISetTheSkies Use it live. All bells seem to have ridiculous sustains, but listen to a recording out front or whatever and you'll find the sustain is lost in the mix and you just get the strong ping you want.

  • @Mp5Drummer yeah thanks mate, I have used it alot now, and it does do the short, strong ping I was after

  • @ISetTheSkies take an old shirt, cut a small piece of it, duct tape it to the underside of it. done!!

  • @ISetTheSkies

yeah I got 2 options for you. I put tape on it or some rubber to mute somewhat the sound.... the decay is faster in a way but with this bell.... you cannot cut the sound.

    # 2 buy a smaller size.

  • @ISetTheSkies no no no no no . do not tape stuff to it. it ruins the cymbal. get 2 large felts(felty things on cymbal) and screw it on as tight as you can. the 2 felts should dampen it.

  • @ISetTheSkies

i know what youre saying man, but believe me, its a myth. in a recording this will sound VERY short and to the point. even in a live setting; in a mix of things you will just hear the ding, and thats it. you only hear the ringout because this is a solo video. all bells are the same way; dont ruin it with tape or anything; enjoy the sustain and trust me that it comes out sounding exactly how you want it to. i had the same dilemma at one point as well.

  • @ISetTheSkies I had the same problem with my Alu-bell. The moongel dampening pads work really really well on them. it takes a lot of the resonance out

  • @ISetTheSkies also if you are willing to buy a different bel cymbal get the ice bel from LP it has a pretty short decay.

  • @ISetTheSkies get an ice bell

  • does the bell of this cymbal sounds good??

  • @alovyk LOL

  • not sure about zil bells but I know if you invert chinas it won't take massive chunks out of your sticks! :)

  • does anybody know which one the Bring Me The Horizon drummer uses?

  • @skateazzz He doesnt use one

  • @skateazzz he used this zil bel in count your blessings. It has a deeper sound than the 6" so it suits the heavier genre more. Joey also uses this one a lot more than the 6". Depends what style you like playing really.

  • @ddrumdude Who the fuck is Joey?

  • @iJustDrum how long have you been drumming for? Joey Jordison of course.

  • @ddrumdude I didn't wanna assume it was Jordison. I'm just trying to make a point you can't just say "Joey" and someone will know you mean Joey Jordison.

And I don't think he even has one...

  • @iJustDrum As far as I know there aren't any other well-known drummers in the mainstream drumming world who are known as Joey. And he does have the equivalent of a zil bel 9.5" (he's endorsed by Paiste).

  • @ddrumdude How was I supposed to know mainstream drummers?

And I know who sponsors him. But still...that's not a Zilbel.

(I'm in a bad mood, feel like being an asshole =\)

  • These would be awesome if they didn't ring for 20 minutes.

There is no up-side-down with cymbals. It's his cymbal. Get over it. It isn't even on his set, it's just a sound demo.

  • love it but damn, it's so disturbing :D like my brain is gonna come out through my nose

  • Valentino from Of Mice and Men and Ex member from Lower Definition plays it like this. It sounds pretty sweet live. Check it out! type in "Of Mice and Men drummer tears up chain reaction"

  • this hurts my ears

  • You have it upside down...

  • all i know is that i'm gay, and i need some butt sex. later.

  • I played with one of these on a kit at guitar center. It sounds so damn good! I just think its a BIT over priced.

  • @smattman22 u should try lookin up the LP ice bell then. much much cheaper than zil-bels

  • nice. it sounds pretty cool. and if i had one id play it that way too.

  • cool........ but kinda annoying

  • @BrotherInArms77 You're*

  • well when u flip bells or china the i hate saying this but average ear would find it to sound better but the reall reason most people started doing it is cuz u dont wanna mark up the edge screwing up the sound when u hit it

  • What exactly are these used for?

  • @TheQuigonjohn e.g accents

  • @TheQuigonjohn you could play crotchets on the bell with snare on 2 and 4 and bass whenever you want

  • @BrotherInArms77 thanks for the really intelligent and valid input

  • @Stephanlovesmusic I GOT YOUR IN PUT RIGHT HERE BUDDY..

  • yeah dude chinas mostly crack inverted if ur not hitting the edge. but thers also two different sounds from each angle. china or bell.

  • i put mine inverted on my ride...it saves you from having to buy another cymbal stand it in my opinion it hits harder too, with heavy overtone

  • This hurts my ears just listening to it here. Zildjian still rock, just too progressive for me.

  • The zil bells absolutely decimate my drumsticks. It's kind of like hitting an anvil, but what a great sound.

  • Sum really good ones are the Terry Bozzio Radia cup chimes as well. Joey Jordison used to use that in his set up. They sound mammoth and there's so many uses for that one. Alot more percussive.

  • dude your totally not correct about having the zil-bel put with the logo on the top. even tho i use my 6" zil-bel like you do, you do get more ring and louder attack when you have it inverted. plus, ppl who think the logo is why you have a cymbal placed with it showing up, doesnt mean u do chinas like that....cause we all know that causes them to crack!!!

  • there is no right or wrong way to play this cymbal... end of story really... its like a china in the way that it is shaped and it is purely preference

  • I agree, I used to play it the way you have it here, but I eventually switched for the sake of preserving the logos and because it was easier to hit, the stick tip would sometimes slip on the round body. Oh well, at least it lasts 1000x longer than a china played that way.

  • @Stephanlovesmusic you are correct I believe. There is no right way for a zil bell. Not the same as china at all. A china placed like that will cause cracks most likely. A zill bell like that is fine because they are durable.

  • @Stephanlovesmusic except a china is supposed to go on one side, otherwise its very easily broken

  • @Stephanlovesmusic Eventhough you can do it different ways, that doesnt neccesarily mean that it is supposed to be played that way. A china is supposed to go on one side, otherwise its very easily broken. Zil Bell probally doesnt matter all to much

  • @Stephanlovesmusic nope he's right about the china sorry dude

  • @Stephanlovesmusic wrong because if you have a china upside down you will break it FAST you are ment to hit its with the bent part down

  • @TheXXcodyXx I'm surprised there are still people who don't know that chinas were originally played with the flange facing up... They started out as an alternative jazz ride, it was rock players who first flipped them to use for quick accents.

  • @Mp5Drummer I agree with you, but it was billy cobham who flipped them.

  • @psalm6teen well actually jazz drummers used to have china cymbals upside down thats how they were originally played, because they used them as rides. Dumb Dumb. and there is no right or wrong way to play this bell, sometimes i play it this way sometimes i play it on top of my ride, it all sounds the same really, just depends on how hard you tighten your felt

  • @psalm6teen Actually Meinl go as far as to put the logos and cymbal type so it faces up when inverted.

  • @psalm6teen i learnt that about the china the hard way

  • @psalm6teen Your penis is inverted...

  • @psalm6teen uhm well a china "upside down" doesn't crack the china , it totally wrecks your sticks :p

  • @psalm6teen have u seen the 9 inch zill bell? I dont think its possible for them to crack, the cymbal has good weight behind it, its like a chunky cymbal

  • @psalm6teen chinas can be put either way.

  • I would only use this to put on a ride cymbal -.- otherwise it's useless, in my opinion

  • @InsaneTuga

naw, its useful for the end of fills (well bells in general, i think this one is too big)

but i think the meinl bells are WAAAAY better.

  • sembra il piatto di una pentolina

  • Tim Alexander

  • rings a lot!

  • Not really. If you wanna see somebody using a Zil-Bel well, listen to The Fall Of Troy. The drummer incorporates it brilliantly.

  • I bet he plays double kick too :)

  • Not too often actually, only in short bursts or in some fills.

  • So what if he plays with a double kick? More than metal people incorporate bells in their music...its often used in metal fills and stuff, but go listen to some jazz or folk...you'd be surprised how often the bell pops up.

  • you can also use it adjunct bell (I use one over a 22 manhattan ride with a 4 inch stacker rod)

I find the "convex bell" allows me to more easily play various portions up and down the bell and use tip or shoulder of the stick to get different timbres -- if you sort of "cowbell ride" it, you can accent, you can dry out the sound to mainly sticking or let it get more chimey down near the skirt (bow as much as it has one)

  • Its not really "upside down" ( mine actually has some logoing on both sides)

I think players that intend to just crash/splash them

will tend to run them "concave bell" piggybacking another cymbal

    BUT...

  • or they dont want them to eat their sticks, but that is mainly for china cymbals

  • yeah, that kind of comes back to edge crashing as the primary mode of use

same thing with chinas - if you are pretty much just edge crashing them - sure

but if you play up the bell, etc (a'la Gravatt)

then you might take some chewing so that you can get access to the sounds up the bell

  • I hear you man; You can't win em all :)

  • mine came and it sounds amazing. the ringing isnt even heard unless its te last thing you hit

  • bought 1 on ebay, its coming in 2 days =). i wasnt aware of the piercing ring, it doesnt even fade! =X

  • There is no wrong way to play it.

  • yeah there is,but i meant upsidedown

  • Either way the cymbal will ring if it's the only thing being played.

I found some tape really helps stop the ring on my 6", but isn't a problem at all when playing live.

  • but more people play it inverted

  • isnt he playing it the wrong way ?

  • did you not read the description

  • i guess stephen loves music

  • i read the info but if it looks nicer and feels nicer the other way then flip. the logo shouldnt stop you lol. y would you care about the logo. "ZIL-BEL"

  • i actually prefer the sound of the lip from the side it's on in this video, only problem is that it's a very small spot to hit correctly.

  • how much is the 9.5?

  • about £135

  • listen to the demo on the zildjian website. even they agree

  • zil bels are NOT china splashes. zil bels are meant to be hit like rides because they are BELLS they make a prettey ping sound not the ksssssssssshhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! sound of chinas

  • ummm your all wrong, you don't need to invert it, just like a china, you don't have to, it's personal preference... ignorant people in this world

  • i agree...

  • exactly its meant to be a bell which it is and looks like it as well when it is like this. however i like to hit the other side out of preference because i like the edge when i hit it. :) my mate has his like in the vid neither is right or wrong :D

  • tell me bought it dude they think they are right all the time there is no right way or wrong way to mount it some people dont even get a stand for it they mount it on top of a crash or something

  • @pearlxzildjian yes man

  • @pearlxzildjian, sure, go play loud music on a not-inverted china, see how long he lasts.

  • @HamsterRapingBastard You can do it, if you do it properly. Did I say it was the best way? No, but it's not wrong to do it. It's preference and it may suit a style better. Read and think before replying.

  • @pearlxzildjian; well, sure, i could drink lemonade with a fork too, it's not wrong, it's just not the best way. Mate, that's bullshit. China's are put upright to use as a ride and give it more sustain and free overtones. Maybe very, very light crashing. If you crash a regular crash cymbals upside down it'll break too. You just stress the metal too much.

  • @HamsterRapingBastard Did i say it was the best way? Did i say it was good in ALL applications? No, i said it suits some styles, which it does, hence Terry Bozzio. Loads of drummers mount splashes inverted. It all depends on how you play them and proper technique, and mounting. I'm not saying it's the only right way, I'm just saying it's not wrong to do.You must be american, you don't read to what i being said. You are right, most times when it mounted right-side up it is used as a ride. (conti)

  • @HamsterRapingBastard Music is all about sound you can make, and it's just another sound. People use frying pans, JD bottles, and fire bells. It's all personal preference, and what fits the music best. Inverted is used the most, and probably is best for metal, or heavier music. But what about lighter stuff like smooth jazz? Maybe you want a real dark trashy ride, which a china can defiantly do. How can you even be arguing this?Do you even play different genres of drums, or just blast beat metal?

  • @pearlxzildjian well, that's what i said? It's good to use as a ride, i use one myself as a ride, but i inverted it anyway, because i crash it a lot. And it looses a lot of sustain when you invert it (also because i screwed it on pretty hard, for breakdowns and stuff) I just want it to last long, since i'm not rich. And yes, i do play other music, not too well, but i'm working on that. It's an expensive hobby :-)

  • @HamsterRapingBastard Don't tighten hard, it'll make it more likely to break!

  • @pearlxzildjian, yeah i know, but it's a second handed i got with the drum anyways. I'm saving for an Sabian HHX 18" chinese.

  • its upsidedown dumbass haha no offence lol

  • its personal preference dumb ass no offense to you. lolz :)

  • lol i learn that i didnt have to flip it until like a day after i posted that haha :]

  • too much ring you gotta invert it!

  • i think its matter of taste

  • invert the bitch!!

  • Flip it :)

  • I use mine on the left side close by the hi hats. I usually use it when i'm doing quick double ride/bell cymbal patterns with my main ride cymbal's bell and this one. Since i dun haf room for another ride cymbal on my left i just use this one. It's just as good.

  • i just bought the zil bel 10 inchs from avedis.. i think is discontinued:s does any one know summtin about the avedis zil bel?

  • avedis is zildjian.

  • i know but the new zil bel is zildjian efx or summtin like that,. i think is brighter

  • in what size do you recomend i should get

  • this size, 9.5", i heard demos of the smaller one and it sounds a bit more like a puny chime rather than a nice beefy bell

  • hey dude can u play these like u would the bell on a ride during a beat.... the bell on my ride sucks way to low

  • i use it for that very purpose!

  • cool bro thanks alot

  • Wrong Way

  • i don't actually play it this way, it was for display purpose only

  • there actually is a death metal drummer here on youtube that plays it this way

    :]

he blasts on it and it sounds insane

do a search for "lucas drum fills and double bass" and you'll probably find him

  • i have one and those sucker are very very heavy.

  • nice ! im gonnba buy this one!! but take off the thing of the cymbal stand..not good for the cymbal
