I completely agree. This is of course no secret, certain people has been banking on this fact throughout all time. The best way to manipulate someone is to teach them something they don't already know that will impact their life significantly. They will then accept your position as more knowledgable then themselves. Once that power-relationship is established, you can manipulate them easily. This is just 1 mechanism though. Know as many as you can, and avoid being a victim of any manipulation.

Good video. The implication though is that they're all trying to sell you a flawed idea. I don't think the intent is always malicious. These methods are just a means to an end and the method alone doesn't imply that the belief itself is wrong. All popular belief systems psychologically manipulate their followers, cults just use more modern techniques. Sometimes you need to pry someones eyes open to make them see, or lull someone to sleep in order for them to dream.
