  • Funny how the harmonica kept playing when John appeared to stop blowing in it. Guess that means they were lip synched afterall...

  • how cool is John at 7;04 with that little hop, knowing it would get those girls screaming..these guys were/are phenomenal..all of em were charming as hell, all of em were good looking, all of em could sing,..never be another like em ever..BEATLES ROCK ON FOREVER

  • RE: Shindig "live vs taped"

quote: Shindig..."In recent years it's been revealed that the backing music and many of the vocals were pre-recorded. The music and vocal tracks were recorded a day or two before the episode was videotaped. To make sure that these "mimed" performances looked live, the performers rehearsed numerous times." from TVcom.

  • real rock n roll

  • Shindig shows were live, not lip-synched

  • I don't think the hose quite knew what he was saying when he said 'entertainment phenomenon of the century.' He was quite right

  • 4:46 girl on the left - first bored beatles audience girl i've ever seen.

  • xDDD HAHAAHAH PAPA CHURRA

  • Hmm, after listening here it does sound live. I think it is by golly!

  • They dubbed back in those days because the sound quality was terrible and to be heard over the screams was hard for the Beatles.I watched this show a lot and enjoyed it although I did not see this segment. The Beatles were the biggest rock act....by far in those days. Biggest draw in the world actually. A big prize for Shindig.

  • This was directed by Jack Good, who also did Around The Beatles. What the fellows did for Around The Beatles was record it live, and then mime to the recording.on the telecast. This may have also been the case here. It was for sound quality more than anything, but it definitely ISN'T the Beatles For Sale LP version.

  • They're just having fun and a good time playing together.

  • Fall, 64.

  • I remember watching this on TV. This what George said they were: A good little rock n roll band

  • This is soo cool!! Paulll is rockin' Kansas City! And he's so cute singing along in I'm a Loser when John's singing. And George's smile when he's soloing is infectious. And Ringo's head swaying is so sweet. And John's foot flick at 7:08 - adorable! They all look really happy here. AMAZING TO WATCH!! :D

  • Man Shows like Shindig and Hulabaloo and other shows and Soul train were like the shit baby :). that is where we got our style :D

  • They seemed more relaxed on Shindig than any other place.Funnier.John the clown as always!LOL!

  • George is fabulous !!

  • I love Paul's dancing here.

  • no ha salido aun un conjunto musical que iguale a los beatles ; son los unicos y mas grandes del planeta.

  • im sure this was all lipsync'd back then right?

  • @ellonysman Nope. On other shows they mimed but on this show it was live! That's why this video is so great!

  • @babyinblack "Mostly" live, actually. They went back and dubbed in some higher quality backing vocals on Kansas City, and pre-recorded the track for "Boys".

  • @fooser1

and i think also the guitar solo for kansas city is dubbed

  • they were the best and still are the best . They set the bar ,and no group has come close to it yet. Probably never will. All the planets were in align for these fab 4 , That's for sure. Will only happen once .Glad we were alive to see it ...

  • I watched this the night it aired in 1964. even then you knew they were the biggest thing to ever hit show biz and nothing agian would ever come close, and 47 years later still has'nt. what you have to understand if you were'nt around is that they affected everything their was, and nothing was unaffected by them.and it was all around the world at the same time. mass enlightenment of a whole planet. even elvis had'nt done that and he was as big as their was.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 Very well put. I was watching that night as well. As teenagers back then we knew the Beatles were huge. They were cultural phenoms. The closest you come today is Lady Ga Ga or Justin Bieber.

But neither one has had anything even close to the across the board impact that the Beatles had in 1964.

  • @owensclock I remember walking into school the morning after their appearence on ed sullivan, their was this glow all over everybody face and in their eyes and you knew something major had happened in your life and the life of all your friends. you were part of a mass conciousness that requiered no words of explenation even thoe it was all anyone could talk about. the current folks you name as todays equivalent are not equivalent at all. they have not affected the culture all over the world.

  • Lennon with a harmonica holder,I love it!

  • The Beatles did not appear in the studio in America for Shindig. I believe this was some sort of satellite feed or taped appearance from the UK.

  • Is it just my sick mind or i´m right??? Paul says F-*-C-K at 0:53?????

  • @nanipotter George did look over at Paul sort of quzically, but there was no reaction from John, so it's a toss-up...

  • I watched shindig but didn't see this. my parents probably made me watch "death valley days" with ronald freakin' reagan. You really can't underestimate the power of mccartney's "little richard" voice in beatlemania. Course, he was ugly, too.

  • Awesome!!!! i loved the BEATLES on live! the guitar solos of George !!! wow

  • kickass clip,they ROCK!!

  • So strange that 4 English guys.... well.. Just so strange?

  • "The Entertainment Phenomena of the Century!" Damn Right!

  • John's hair is exceptionally great here!

  • GAH I love George. When he does his solos, he's adorable. He doesn't try to look cool like all the guitarrists nowadays. Thanks a billion for finding and uploading.

  • What does SHINDIG mean?

  • @Maugolek small party

  • Haha Ringo's Hey hey at 6:45. The second hey is so cute! :3

  • My dad used to work as a screener for the movie studios. He brought this home one day in a 35mm film canister, tossed it on my brother's bed (along with the space walk and the Stones on Hollywood Palace) and said "I don't know who they are, but they'll never last."

  • We were lucky to get it with lots of snow on our antenna but only in the late summer evenings

  • Don't know that I've ever seen them lined up on stage this way, with Paul stage right.

  • @philh37 Yeah, him and John are usually the other way round

  • some of it obviously dubbed in the studio.

for example the harmonies of george and john in kansas city. i'm pretty sure thats three or four voices harmony. unless john had a special skill of spliting his vocals, its dubbed.

the show was recorded in october and broadasted in january. thats a lot of time for fixing the recording

  • So what? John's harmonica appears to play itself at a couple points. I believe he actually PLAYS onstage, but there is some recorded harp being played too. As to George's guitar...he doesn't appear to be playing the solo on LOSER. But really, who cares? It's the Beatles FORTY FIVE YEARS AGO. BTW, I was sitting right there watching this show the night it aired. Saw them at the Cow Palace in 64...first US tour.

  • Pure genius!
