last time I heard, Karen was working for a bio-tech company in MA. I do not know about Ratte but I hope some station somewhere took him in because he is very good at what he does. They would be very lucky to have him.
As a kid growing up in Maine in the 70's, cable TV meant one thing and one thing ONLY: Channel 56!! It was the best! Cartoons everyday, Creature Double Feature - great memories! Ah, you'll be missed 56!
thanks for posting this!! I was so mad when they shut down without any warning to the viewers. I grew up watching 56 news and I felt robbed when they went off air. Thanks again-- I still miss watching those guys!
The TV station known as WLVI-56 by many Bostonians was purchased by another station in late 2006. Thus, the station as it was known was shut down and many people were laid off. The CW56 is still airing in the Boston market but through another station. The celebration you see on the video was the last day of the ORIGINAL 56... and nothing will ever replace the original!!
I watched 56 since I was a kid, and it was the best, down to earth newscast around, especially the beginning montage about knowing where your children were. God bless to all, and thanks to all for many good memories at 10.
Big time, as a kid on the weekends, I used to watch it with my stepfather, and that's kind of how we got to know each other.
When I was in college, Frank mallicoat came to my class at Suffolk, and spoke with students. And he did remark on how someday he wouldn't mind being the lead anchor at that time (late 90's), and it was nice that it came true for him.
This is a great clip. I saw the end of the fnal broadcast. Jack Hynes speech was phenomenal. He realyl said it well. I wish you well in your new pursuits.
My pleasure. He did a fine speech. Would you happen to have the clip? If co could you post it? I would love to see it again and share with other people. Thanks and good luck. Oh btw I read the Herald today, they said Channel 7 did not do too well in the ratings for their debut! I also heard how they moved in like the Gistapo at the stroke of midnight!:(
I have the entire last show on DVD. Let me see if I can only take the Jack Hines portion and put it up on youtube. If I do, I will let you know here where you can find it.
WLVI was a great place to work. The people made the 1 hour (one way) commute worth it. Looking for something closer to home so, WHDH was not for me. Thanks for viewing clip.
Well somebody's having fun.

You know, the Living 56 song had a line about "Growing up with 56" - can't be more true! This was the end of an era, and thanks for it.

I'm a bit confused.. how do you mean by Last Day? Isn't it a CW affiliate, or is it centralised operations?
