Just bought '1968 M715 with 390 ford & 38" Michelin radials. I think mine would make
the Bronco it's bitch & the TJ just looked pathetic. Mine is getting 6BT Cummins w/6spd. Also got set of 44's for it. WooHOO... Git me sum Mud & let's do this. Snow is looking good as well.
Great video! That really shows what a real truck should be :-)
I am looking for an M-715 right now. Hoping to find one in good condition, especially mechanical condition. Would love to find one with a multi-fuel or at least a good diesel, as I hear a better engine with the original gearing works pretty well. So if someone out there has one for sale Message Me! Full Pics or Video of inside, outside, engine, etc would be helpful. I live in Indiana, but would consider a drive for the right Truck.
those trucks had great drivelines! should have put a 6BT cummins in it. The only thing that was crap on those was that they were prone to rust and the heads on the I-6's were crap
yeah! I like your 715 ... I remember when the M715 was a new vehicle in Vietnam,1969 but as far as I know we,The Marine Corps, didn't have 'em. All the "new stuff" went to the Army. Then too the Marine Corps Motto was "If you don't have it...improvise" So we might accidently borrow (improvise) some equipment from the Army. An M715 maybe?
For those of you that don't recognize it that's a US Marine Corps Flag on the old 715 :~)
I have a 67,Kaiser Jeep M715 for sale. What a truck for rough territory! All original ... runs like a beauty. Have it on Craigs list in Fayetteville Ar.
1967 Jeep Kaiser M715 Truck - $5000
Rare military truck. You will find others NOT RUNNING, for near this price... I am asking $5,000 for one that Runs, Works and Looks great. Everything is in tact, original and working. I have many photos that I can send. It was made for hunting in rough terrain you can't beat it.
Welcome to the world of a REAL military truck. The M-715 is probably the best in the line of all the M designate 1.25 ton pickups...I'm starting a ground up on an M1008 now... Great pull.
The M715 had many problems, and that why they didnt continue production past 69. The engine is the weakest link. The cab is flimsy civilian, the suspension too stiff, and no lockers on the axles. They fixed all that with the M1008 diesel trucks in the 80s.
I wouldn't say they fixed ALL of it... The 6.2 non-turbo Detroit certianly had its problems. The M-1008 had a rear locker, but no front, and they weren't selectable... Off road, I'll take a lightly modded m-715 any day of the week over most other off road vehicles... I agree though, that cyclone motor in the 715 was a POS... The guy in this vid has a 4bt cummins in it though... perfect motor for this truck IMO...
Thanks for your input. I respect your opinion. The 6.2 was economical, and durable. It lacked in power, but was bulletproof. I was wrong about the front axles on the M1008. Only the 1028, and 1031 had trac-loc, the rest were open. Speaking for myself, I love the M715 because it is a ragtop, but still a 4 wheel drive truck. Just like the smaller cj5.
as far as reliability, you're right, the 6.2 was definitely solid, and you could practically run it on anything that even closely resembled diesel. I love the 715 because it's a rag too, but those gear ratios, once lockers are added, make an already capable off roader into a beast that the chevy pickups that replaced them could never have hoped to compare to...
Admittedly, though, off road prowess was not really the intended purpose of the M-designate vehicles...
They were only offered with inline six engines, full floating dana 60 front and dana 70 rear geared to like 5.28 or something crazy, PTO connected Xcases, and PTO driven front and bed mounted winches. Some came with water fording kits. and you can fit 39" tires without trimming.
I love the M-715, but I don't think it could have been slower. The problem for the Bronco was the fact that he was in the slick shit too and that the Jeep did not help, the stuck jeep only stood on it after the Bronco was bogging down. On another note, I would be kicking someone's ass if after I pulled them out they tried to drag me backwards with my door open and people exiting the truck.
Reminds me of a story involving an '84 stock Jeep J-10 with 360 V8 and a jacked-up Chevy Shortbed that got stuck in a mudhole! Just how hard is it to find parts for this old warrior?
Personally, I'd go with a Cummins 4BT like that guy did... Or REALLY power it up with a 6BT Cummins and a 5600 tranny with a 205 t-case... unstoppable...
The 4BT is a PERFECT motor for that application though. Light and torquey...
@mcinfantry This is a great video! Its unreal, when I describe it, no one believes it could happen. I love that you had a big American flag, it makes me proud.
