  • I own an original 1Ds. Iso 50 - 400 is great. 800 - 1250 dont go there! if you dont like noise in your images. Also: working with Iso 50 you lose stop of light, good for shallow depth of field or long exposures. However: the highlights suffer (less dynamic range in highlights) no recovery. Colours produced by this camera tend to be a little dull (i use the 24-105L) compared with more modern cameras. If you only use Iso 100-400, in a studio for example, this camera is excellent. Well worth £750.

  • Nicely done, cheers! Great to see a more recent analysis of these old tanks... been browsing eBay, seeing what they're going for and considering potential options!

Kinda reeeally wish people didn't do the slow-zoom thing when showing photos in their videos tho', especially when babbling on about the crop factor differences and saying how the photos are "completely unedited" ;)

Asides from that, yeah - thanks a lot for putting this out there!

  • @DrewKForrest Thanks for the comments. The slow-zoom thing seems to happen automatically with the video editing package I use, I'll see if I can turn it off for next time!

  • Great job on these reviews! I've been looking for an affordable full-frame camera and have been considering the 1DS and the original 5D. Since these are both older cameras, it's difficult to find an in-depth review on YouTube. Your review is excellent.

  • Excellent review! Just what I was looking for.

  • good review as usual. this camera will trash the old 5D even with a small lcd and no zoom. a professional camera is usually for professionals that don't need to review the screen after every picture. another use of 1Ds is portrait, studio i think. I own a 1D mk ii but i will not change it not even with a 7D. 1D series is the camera to have if you are serious about taking picture with no regrets.

  • Nice camera ..though with newer or higher resolution alternatives around for a couple hundred pounds more it all depends on whether 11mp is enough for your needs...personally i feel the price for a second hand Canon EOS 1DS doesnt strike me as being much of a bargain these days unless your strapped for cash 11mp is just a little too small for my requirements but a Canon EOS 1DS mark 2 or 3 would do nicely!..Anyway nice review..clear to the point and professional!

  • @MrCOLTSR2 Thanks for the feedback!
