sayids death was soooooo shocking and unexpected because characters have been stabbed numerous times, beaten to a pulp and also been shot but they usually survived somehow....I mean he was just meeting that "reporter" guy and as a viewer you are so relaxed and then BANG! best tv show EVER!

It was bad writing to get rid of Said, especially the whole explanation his murderer gave in the following epsiodes, possibly the worst storyline in the shows six year run. I guess for shock value it worked but Oz wasn't the same after Eamonn Walker left.

@pythonbyte OMG, I agree with you on that one! When that nerdy-looking guy was explaining the reason for killing Said, I said to myself "Huh??? WTF?" I thought it was lame. And I was pissed that they got rid of Said. I loved that guy.

@pythonbyte Dear God, I am in so agreement with you- Said's death was stupid, and made pointless by the terrible explanation of his killer- "The universe is doing to die in a billion years so I'll kill Said because he joked about it once". I mean, seriously.
