  • Hey, umm, I'm hopefully planning to join the Army when I'm older, and I want to join a Scottish Regiment (Probably the Royal Regiment of Scotland) because my entire family is Scottish, and it's full of history and full of great lads. But the thing is I was born and raised in London, and I have an English accent, also I want to be an officer, will any of this be a problem. Thanks :)

  • @vennom212 - heartening to see a decent apology on youtube.Good for you lad. It's not a weakness.Too often on youtube comments deteriorate into mindless, ill-informed viciousness (ungrammatical to boot). As a pensioner I find that deeply depressing.Good to see musicians having fun - I'm sure the Guards appreciated the irony of playing with "an angry mob".Don't get too drunk too often -you don't want to throw away a good career (or liver) for one smack of the wrong guy.Good Luck.

  • my dad serverd with scots guards before ww2 then joined stirling as an orignal he stole a piano from anzac, any person know of this.when he passed away back in 2003 he broke my heart . scots guards and sas in attendance at funeral, i'm so pround of him.my dad

    .

  • best bits 3:08 - end

  • I loved that too. It was a real pleasure and an honour to play with the Kaisers. I am the drummer on the left (with the glasses and 2 medals). That was my last ever gig in uniform and I left the Army the very next day. I loved being a musician in the Scots Guards band and this was a great way to say goodbye!

  • @iamacowboi fair play to you mate i watched this live it was amazing i had 2 brothers and a sister in the royal irish regiment

am also a drummer in the hamilton flute band londonderry

  • @iamacowboi lies.

  • @vennom212 Eh? My name is John. I served in the British Army for 22 years as a musician. That performance was my last ever in uniform. iamacowboi is my son's youtube account. No lies. Apology please, Soldier!

  • @iamacowboi Sorry mate, was on the profile and just seen the info and thought you were lying cause it metioned uni etc... Its youtube so you get a lot of people lying about being in the military its hard to tell whos true. once again sorry.

  • Like it when jools says the scots guards are accompanied by the Kaiser Chiefs

  • johnnyh makes eh point sounds better with the scots guards

  • mito bom

    foda mesmo

    do caralho

  • I think it sounds better with the Scots Guards, I was disappointed this ones not on the album.

  • so don't listen to the Scots Guards version 'tard

  • All I want to tell you all being a S Guards daughter; I am travelling 150 miles to Fort William this Friday to see the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Bat Scots Guards; and to be honest with you guys I do not care if the band; will be made up with fellow guardsmen ie; Irish, Coldstream, Welsh or Grennies or whoever; they ARE simply the best................. PLEASE NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS; the event will be ACE......... Thank you

  • Hope you enjoyed the concert Jackie I played in all of them in 12 days and we raised £12000 for our charity, my family also came to the FW concert. Thanks for your support from all ScotsGuardsmen.

  • Loved the concert. Shame dad was not present. How and ever; my parents are TROOPING thanks to Lc Cpl Platt in London. My great night was in Fort William; theirs will be TROOPING THE COLOUR in two weeks............ so will you be present when they are there?????? We are so patriotic as dad is signed up to the Guards monthly rag. Not bad for an ex0guard of near enough 50 years,,

  • Lets not try and rip the 5 regiments apart; if the Keisers really wanted pipes and drums why did they not contact the Irish regiment for that reason alone. Lets leave well alone; they used the Scots....

  • very epic

  • Yes wonderful - and we tend to forget that the bandsmen are probably young men about the same age as the pop group. Was that Frank Sidebottom watching from the wings?

  • why cant i see the video

    comment me back m5

  • lol ricky wore exactley the sam shirt at the exeter gig !

  • and still looks WOW!!!

  • 0:20 Man with clock for a head?!?!

  • my fav

  • How honoured would you feel to be on either side of this - a humble rock band from Leeds playing with the men who guard our country, or a few musicians with the Scots Guard playing with one of the biggest bands in the UK and in fact the world?

  • ..?

  • Aaaargh! So Gooood!!! (:

    <3 Them!!

    xx

  • I seriously will scream if icant see them this year

  • I really enjoyed this...The drummers are great aren't they? One of them plays in The Jay Scott Project too and was on tour supporting Take That while doing that gig. It was his last gig in the Army. ;-) JTD

  • Yeah, Drum67 I agree with you. They are great guys. I am a Scots Guards daughter and totally proud of them. My dad was not in the band but you become part of the Scots Guards family and feel proud being part of it. Thanks for your comments.

  • Scots Guards are awesome, very sharp drummers and a formidable Regiment of the British Army.

    Cheers thanks for the video.

  • oh, i wish norwegian new year-shows on telly could be like that! love KC, and Ricky is such a sweetheart;)

  • i would love to be in a pipe and drums band or any kind of military band for that matter

  • If your keen to join a military band you obviously need to be pretty good on any wind band instrument. Let me know if you're serious and I'll give you some info

  • na im not serious i cant play it would just be nice.

im planning on joining REME this year though or go to army foundation college.

  • join the irish guards mate and we'll teach u how to play the flute, drums or bagpipes. u previous experience needed

  • i would mate but i want to get a good trade when i come out. im nto saying that having music qualifications isnt a good trade but i would prefer to get mechanic qualifications before going to any kind of front line infantry regiment

  • if ur gonna do that make sure u go in as a techie. the get instant promotion after trainin and better pay than the rest of us.

  • wrong mate pay 2000 put a stop to that join what you want and go for it be the best

  • aw rite? didnt realise that. i thought all techies were payed loads more than us infantry?

  • How did you get the gig with them?? Pretty Cool like for a pipeband. The Vale Did it a T in the park years ago but i can't remember who with..........

  • i thougth it was part of a pipes and drums band owell

  • Hey glad u liked the video, i am the bass drummer of the 1st battalion Scots Guards for this video, the 2 other lads are from the Regimental Band who are based in London !!!

  • Nice bit of drumming squire. I have to ask though, didn't anyone from the regiment give a thought to the title of the song or consider the symbolism of having the Scots Guards playing along with it?

Don't get me wrong. Personally I was delighted. I'm just amazed that it was permitted...

  • no not really any chance to get on the tv is a bonus also boosts the recruiting side of things if youngsters see kaiserchiefs with us.... its all good lol

  • Why did they not supplement you with two drummers from the Regimental Band rather than the Corps of Drums?

  • The two drummers on the outside were percussionists from the Regimental Band. The drummer in the middle was from the Pipe Band as the Scots Guards don't have a Corps of Drums.

  • Ah, of course. I always wondered whether the Scots and Irish Guards had a Corps of Drums in addition to the Pipe Bands or not.

  • The Irish do but the Scots don't!

  • Ah well thanks a lot for clearing that up for me.

  • Sorry to dash you hopes but both the Scots & Irish Guards have both pipe band & corp of drums

  • I thought as much. I was dubious of the idea the Irish Guards did (as I full well know they do) and the Scots "didn't." Thank you.

  • The Scots & Irish Guards have both Pipe Band & Corps of Drums

  • Trust me on this one!! Scots have a Pipe Band but no corps of drums! They have drummers as part of the pipe band but no individual corps of drums!!

  • Sorry i served with the 1st battalion Scots Guards from 1974 until both the 1st & 2nd Battalions Ammalgamated and still have a Corps of Drums that's why all regiments in the foot guards have a Drum Major and a Pipe Major

  • They always used to have both but it was a few years ago now that the scots got rid of there corps of drums in favour keeping the pipes. They still have drum majors yes!

    Honest!

  • Just to clear a few things up. Been reading back on the blogs. The Scots Guards only have a pipe band now, but still Pipe & Drum Major, Drum Major now comes from the Pipe band. The Irish Guards still have both. The Band on last years Jools was a composite band made up with guys serving in UK as the remainderr of us were in Iraq, hence the Regimental band Drummers. This year's band on Jools Hootenanywill all be from the 1st Bn Scots Guards, so well done the boys from last year in keeping it going

  • @cfcmonkeycfc

    RIP Monkey

    Still cant believe your gone.

Soo glad ive eventually found this, been looking for what seems like forever.

  • Hi Harry glad you liked it, there is just one slight discrepency however. It's not the Irish Guards that are performing with the Kaiser Cheifs, its the Scots Guards.

  • I'll have to check that, I'm sure I saw the Irish Guards on the credits... I'll get back to ya.

  • Yup, you're right. I must have transposed it in my head. Fixing title now...

  • Catch the second half (the "anthem") accompanied by the military symbolism of guardians of the British Empire. Is that cool or crazy?
