  • lyrical magic

  • superstar grunge.....

  • Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana. Hands down some of the best EVER. If not thee BEST

  • Don't do heroin kids....

  • @TrevTrev25 So true. Layne looks so thin a frail in this video. What would music be like if Layen and Kurt never had heroin issues.

  • Hi I'm a Rapper and what is this?

  • @iZo51 This the Art and Poetry of Grunge Rock. And or Alice In Chains.

  • @iZo51 Music

  • @montife You nailed it! I actually laughed out loud. Love it.

  • @iZo51 This is what skilled musicians sound like.

  • @erichoward15 Oh ok :) Thanks well he's cool

  • @iZo51 the soul of a dying man laid bare for all to see (I win the competition for the best description!)

  • this is truely kick ass.

  • how can someone dislike this???

  • *Bury me softly in this womb*

*I give this part of me for you*

*Sand rains down and here i sit*

*Holding rare flowers in a tomb* *In bloom*

  • @aspokenpoetsverse why is everyone transcribing. we know the words u sillyhead

  • @zaprudermacphee oh and another thing (sillyhead) sounds like you should be on lady gaga vids..leave the alice in chains vids to the big boys :)

  • no disrespect to kurt and nirvana, i love them, but layne and jerry and the rest of alice in chains are a far superior musical ensemble than nirvana. better music, better lyrics, better everything. damn i love aic. miss ya layne. ill listen to and cherish your music forever and be damn proud of it,

  • jerry and sean are soooo beautiful!!!!!

  • @lilbit7623 I dont belive in god but i hope that theres something after death and i would get to see Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley there. I cant stand thinking there would be just empty blackness after death

  • My 21yr old son favors Layne so much that it's not even funny. R.I.P. Layne Thomas Staley!! Aug 22,1967-April 5,2002

  • This song saved my life and I'm sure I'm not the only one. RIP Layne. My sincerest thank you.

  • BEST UNPLUGGED SONG OF ALL TIME, and there are some great ones, but this one has more soul than the rest.

  • Remember when MTV actually played music?

  • This music not only touches on my feelings, but also in my soul ... makes me feel small.

  • Comment removed

  • wow

  • Layne is singing his guts out..spilling his pain or all the word to feel here. There was nothing anyone could do for him; the choice had been his, and he made it, owning his actions fully. What he left us with is music, at once so heavy, so sweet, and so heartbreaking that we are allowed a rare glimpse into the mind of an artist whose genius unfortunately did not allow him to honor himself, nor walk in balance. Rest in Peace, Layne...thanks for the music and the lesson on what not to do.

  • @makwabid69 did layne write this song?

  • @Christopher711

Jerry wrote Down In A Hole

  • Kurt cobain and Layne is sitting in heaven and looking down on us...specially those pop loving teenagers and thinking how pathetic this world is now...r.i.p kurt and layne

  • Comment removed

  • @TheRockIzBack your stupid, heaven doesnt exist moron

  • Sand rains down and here I sit, holding rare flowers in a tomb, in bloom...

  • Amazing performance! You can see and feel his pain! R.I.P. Layne

  • How quickly it all ends. Listen while you can.

  • This video does not need the dislike option. Those 19 that chose it are an abomination...

  • I'd Like to Fly.. But, My Wings Have Been So Denied...

Bury Me Softly In This Womb...

  • @HarmonyRainsong I agree. I dont really like the album version much , but this is amazing

  • Have you noticed this video has been up for almost 2 1/2 yrs? Look how many views it has. Go watch one of Ray "I was funny the first few times, but now I just use the same jokes in EVRY video I make because kids today are ignorant and can't tell when I'm just repeating the same lame jokes over and over again" William Johnson's videos and see how many views it gets in one day...

  • I love this version of Down in a Hole. It feels so much more soul felt than off of "Dirt" Feels like Home love you Layne.

  • Alice in Chain is not the same without Layne.

  • Layne has a voice that sends chills straight to the bone.

  • Godbless you Layne.

  • I listen to this song and become mesmerized by the harmony, I remember listening to AIC when I was in my late 20’s, to this day Alice, Nirvana and band from the 90’s are my main stay for music. Today’s music doesn’t even touch this.

  • The amount of soul that comes thru in Layne's voice is hauntingly beautiful, especially when considering he looks, at times, almost bored here. Pure, unabashed, God-given ability. Gone far too soon, but when we still have songs like this to remember him with its hard not to smile. Even if that smile is thru a tear or two.

  • Jagrmari is a wise one. I am a first generation grunge girl. There was NOTHING like this, Soundgarden PJ, AIC, we'd never heard this before, and it was what we were feeling...yes Nirvana was the big daddy "commercially" but we had a rich library to take out.

And Down in a Hole? Pure Shakespeare.

  • thanks for the beautiful music, layne and crew :')

  • @guitarsystem I was thinking exactly the same thing

  • Down in a hole.... Weve mostly all been there!! This is the music that brings us out that freekin hole!! Alice in Chains will always be one of the best band of all time!!!!

  • @77smokinjoe WHOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This is probably the best two part harmony i ever heard. Unmatched in it's time.

  • This whole album is a pantie dropper

  • god i miss him.

  • Sorry SuperReal, didn't realized u were all premenstrual and pissy.

  • OdddFutureWolfHaley

Hes looking down in his hole, losing his soul. Hahahaha

  • yeah can you imagine mtv actualy played good music at one point?

  • why is he looking down?

  • @SuperRealcountry go fuck your cat? that's funny right there man, and if i had the money i'd donate to the staley foundation, but i really don't

  • i can feel hes pain, and the 19 people that dislike this song, has no understanding how deep that was. RIP LAYNE ALWAYS BE MISS.

  • "We were just blown away by him - he had 'star qualities' even then. He was much more timid - he looked down while he sang. But the grain of his voice was there, the soul was there." Mike starr

  • *Don't Feed the Trolls*

  • @SuperRealcountry All people who donate to charitable causes and then yell out to make it known they donate to charitable causes are banned from all AIC sites.

  • @SuperRealcountry Country and Western Goobs are banned from all AIC sites.....plus Layne's soul lives on through my cat Muffy....

  • my Thai girlfriend walked in on me watching this last night and asked in her broken english 'he no like to sing?

  • R.I.P Layne Staley

  • Brings back great memories if great music and all the other unplugged series like pearl jam but also a lot of shitty memories of growing up in the 90's.Probably the reason the music was great cos they were all pissed off with things.Great voice

  • Some how when I look at him in this video I can see his pain & relate.... Seeing somebody else in that kinda pain.... I know it....I know it all too well. No matter how hard you try to pull yourself outta this pain it'll always be there eating at you.... Truly a man who won't let himself be.....

  • @GoKartMozartCRX you know jerry cantrell wrote that song....

  • i dream about thos days all the time....layne...kurt ....the whole scene.its depressing knowing its gone and will probably never come back

  • He makes holding those beautiful notes seem effortless

  • Miss u layne!

  • OMG where is my gun! I have to kill 18 people :(

  • His voice gives me chills...RIP Layne.

  • LAYNE your the best singer, i'm following you,

  • back when music had feeling...

  • This is what music is about. No lip syncing or wacky bullshit. Just pure rawness and passion. And I fucking love it...

  • @justagirl123431 you are a very confused little girl. why do people with closed minds always open their mouths?

  • Layne ..as dope sick as you might have been you put on one hell of a show , i really hope after everything your finally resting comfortably ...R.I.P

  • @pulsedrummer4 You got that right

  • 18 people still don't understand who they thought he was supposed to be.

Really though, fuck all 18 of them. This shit's the best. Always will be. RIP Layne.

  • Breaks my heart to watch Layne Staley here.......

  • 18 people dumped in the hole

  • so you around 60 ?, keep rocking ewhen you high 80 my friend!

  • Having grown up in Seattle throught the 70-80-90's and having seen nearly if not all of the great musicians come through the Emerald City Layne and the boys in my opinion have been by far the best of them all.

  • Justagirl123 I bet you listen to rap or mierderon, this is real music compared to whatever you think sounds good. WTF

  • My son was born the day they found him. I was in hospital when I found out. RIP Layne 10 years this April.

One of the best bands I've seen live

  • One of the greatest songs of all time. Beautifully written, beautifully performed. I only wish I could have grasped music like this when I was young. I feel that my appreciation for it now is but a shadow of what it could have been.

  • Live forever, Layne.

  • Jerry wanted the spotlight sooooo bad...great guitar player...but....not the main dude and if you look close...you can see it.Layne was the man but the drugs will fuck you every time...

  • @MrBRUCELEE98 I strongly disagree. It's the harmonized and traded-off lines that really make this song such a masterpiece.

  • @BareBandSubscription You're dead on brother........ The vocal trade offs gave AiC their signature sound, and this tune REALLY showcases it. NOBODY else pulled them off like that. I'm not even a big fan of the grunge genre, but I can listen to Layne and Jerry harmonize all day long.

  • @MrBRUCELEE98 thats right. the drugs will fuck you every time. sad Layne is gone and you can tell he wanted to be better and not go down like that.

  • Beautiful :)

  • I listened to this when I did my paper round in Liverpool back in 1992 (the album version). I'm listening to it now in 2012 and it make me want to cry. Its a brilliant song - the soul is awesome. Didn't realise how good music was back then - it was a special time.

  • @LIAM99998888 Thrust me my friend, its always downhill from here....I can only imagine to what kind of shit my children will listen to....With technology in bloom we will be seeing lots and lots more autotune and other crap that isnt music.....:(

  • @nickz140v1 im 15 so people assume im a mainstream kid but i listen to metallica nirvana alice and all the good hard rock an heavy metal around today, this generation is full of shit, but there will always be a diamond in the ruff.

  • @GuitarPlayer96100 Yeah, but good music is losing it already to the non-talented freaks,I agree that there will always be people who will listen to good music, but good music will rarely(almost never) be made in the future, you can easily see that 90% of todays bands as Brian Poehn says steal from Maiden and Metallica so....

  • HEROIN

  • jerry is a pretty good singer, but when he sings with layne he just fucks it up, laynes singing ability is on a level much much higher than jerrys, still i dont dislike jerry he is a good singer and a great guitar player. aic is the shit

  • Great voice man! To bad he had to go, maybe him and Kurt are jamming it out together

  • If perfection does exist, congratulations Mr. Layne and Mr. Jerry, you just achieved back then.

  • silly question but whats the next song they are about to play and then they stop?

  • @22elenam It's a song from the old "HeeHaw" series variety show from wayyy back when.

  • @22elenam Wait....you were talking about immediately after right? My bad...IDK, but it sounded awesome..

  • wheres the 10 million views here? maybe the world is ending

  • @artisthevoice i feel the emotion behind this comment...agree 100 percent

  • My gosh, I can't look through any comment sections without people complaining about this generation "ruining" music. I'm 19. I don't like most of the crap nowadays either. But there's ALWAYS been crap music. Vanilla Ice? Madonna's the reason there's Lady Gaga. Backstreet Boys in the Holy 90's led to the other gay boy bands we see today.

Again, I'm not defending this generation, but there's always been crap music. Stop complaining and enjoy YouTube giving us blasts from the past.

  • @VikeFan284296 Backstreet Boys were popular, because they were actually talented musicians. Madonna is a legend, and Lady Gaga is a political activist, which youth needs more of. Vanilla Ice laid the foundation for Eminem, as he was among the first non black people to successfully break the once black only genre of rap music. Just saying lol

  • Layne , from a devoted fan of 20 years and defending you as the greatest singer of that generation I now hope your wings are no longer denied RIP

  • @309Edman- This world will never see or hear someone like Layne ever again. He left us all too soon.

  • @309Edman Okay, you get my vote for BEST youtube comment of the year (i know it's only February, but I really think it's going to be impossible to top that!) \m/

  • @BRIANCOTNOIR I appreciate that feedback Bro. Layne and AIC changed my life and im not just saying that they did. That comment came from the heart and its always good to hear from true AIC fans

  • layne just couldnt let himself be he ended up losing control of his soul and i guess he really wanted to be inside but no longer are his wings denied he demri shannon and mike are jammin

  • This song is amazing.... all the best musicians die young. :(

  • I'm down in a hole losing my soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • could you imagin how jerry feels watching this

  • This song goes through my hole body ! BEST BAND EVER !!!

  • look at cantrells face at 2'20, he's like damn layne just hit those notes perfectly

  • That sounded like the unforgiven by metallica at 6:02

  • @TheLegendarySpaebar i think you mean battery

  • @TheLegendarySpaebar whos metalica ?

  • can sombody upload the whole unplugged not just the songs PLEASE !!?!!

  • Comment removed

  • MTV unplugged don't make it like this anymore.. Rip staley and cobain

  • That part at 4:15 when Layne and Jerry sing in unison "Oh I want to be inside" and Layne clicks his voice from soft to aggressive, just like he's hitting a distortion pedal for his voice, it's flawless.

  • Jerry is an ugly beautiful mother fucker, Layne is just beautiful.

  • Kurt Cobain has one life and story, but this guy... wow...

  • </3

  • <3 how Layne sing this song with the soul

  • Strange how both Kurt and Layne played their last concerts on MTV unplugged.

  • God send.

  • The connection the band has with each is something very special !It makes a badass band even better

  • all my friends say: Alice in Chains is so dark band! But i think , this is Amazing band!

This is my favorite band and I can not imagine a day without Alice in Chains

    R.I.P Layne :(

  • RIP Layne

  • Love it, love them.

  • i really hope that the dislikes has something to do with laynes deteriorating health or something

  • 15 dislikes?? its scary that there's people in this world that just don't have a clue!

  • whats the next song that they play? does layne play guitar on it?

  • @lreyay next song is angry chair. layne plays guitar in it

  • so beautiful

  • just seeing layne here compared to what he looked like a few years before this is sad. you can see the deteriorating physical effects of drugs but his voice is still just as strong :')

  • god damn....the lyrics to this song "bury me softly in this womb, I give this part of me for you, sand rains down and here I sit holding rare flowers in her tomb...in bloom"...incredible, layne's vocals are unbeatable and so painfully underrated, and Jerry is genius ...i know im gunna get hate for saying this but alice reminds me of led zeppelin, strong vocalist with an equally strong guitarists, not just some 'rock band' when majority of their big hits were acoustic...amazing both bands ;-)

  • @o0oLaylaINTHESKYo0o No hate, man. You're dead on!

  • @o0oLaylaINTHESKYo0o You know why I hold Alice in Chains in favor of Led Zep? Alice wrote all of her own songs.

  • fodaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Unbelievably beautiful.

  • Its just so, so amazing to see Layne after 2 years without a performance and then doing this...seemingly without effort. I like to sing along to AiC songs but my voice just keeps 'breaking' during Layne's parts. I've been homeless for about 10 months now and in a strange way hearing AiC just makes me happy. I guess you need to have seen the hells of the world to be able to properly appreciate this. Thanks so, so much Alice in Chains!

  • Laynes voice gets so deep in my soul it hurts.

  • fuck modern music

  • 15 people couldn't tell the difference between the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons.

  • When I was your age, Music Television actually played music

  • I almost forgot... Polska Was kocha, Alice in Chains. W jakimkolwiek składzie byście nie byli - nie pozwólcie o sobie zapomnieć. Nigdy!

  • Only ONE good thing about nowadays - we can go and watch on youtube how awesome bands were in mtv and compare it to this shit which's all the time in radio and TV, at present.

I'm only 15. Everyday when I wake up I'm just so ashamed for my generation. And I'd give every single touch-screen-android-fucking-phone or another needless thing to see you on that show. GOD, why I wasn't born in '90?

I hope you rest in peace, Mr. Staley We won't forget you.
