I didn't care much for the animation quality of the Ruby-Spears cartoons back in the day, but I did like their logo animation a lot, especially the 'wooshy' synth.
In the 80's, you knew that you had just watched one of the great cartoons of the era whenever the R-S logo showed up. It's sad that their Superman cartoon only had a 13-episode run. It was one of my absolute favorites, to the point where I bought the DVD when it came out. That cartoon should have had at least 22 episodes (which is, these days, a standard-issue season for a weekly show) or more.
Does anyone remember the Hannah Barbera haunted house logo that was used between scenes in their cartoons? Captain Caveman used them all the time? What would that be called? a 'bumper' or an 'interstitial'?
I wish I could get this as a ring tone on a cell phone. Does anyone know of an MP3 player that can play or convert audio and video real player formatted files?
Ruby-Spears and Hanna-Barbera actually had close ties. in fact, Ruby-Spears' co-founders, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, once worked for Hanna-Barbera as writers (they helped create the original Scooby-Doo).
@cybertronization - Thundarr was a little before my time (I was born in late 1982). I never even saw this, I was into He-Man as a kid and that's what I watched. However, what I have seen on Boomerang, it feelsl ike a rp-off. A cross-over would have been interesting, but Thundarr and He-Man looked a little too much alike!!!!

Ruby Spears did a great job on certain cartoons but their best one was Alvin and The Chipmunks. That one was a success.

This has been a Ruby-Spears Enterprises production.

who composed the music for this logo? Was it Hoyt Curtin, who did the HB logo? Also who created the RS logo?
kascnef82 2 years ago
That would be Dean Elliott.
TonyKanameKuran 2 years ago
@TonyKanameKuran I think you're right. As Hoyt Curtin composed the Hanna-Barbera star-swirl jingle, Dean Elliot composed the Gold R-S one.

I see this is from Boomerang - did you get this from Thundarr the Barbarian (which came before He-Man, yet it feels like a rip-off of He-Man)?
AllisonTheSNLGuru 3 years ago
@AllisonTheSNLGuru Have you ever imagined a "Thundarr/He-Man" crossover done by Ruby-Spears and Filmation for '84 or '85?

To clarify, usually shows which had the Taft info come up after the logo itself, have the logo slowed down to cover it up, or fade it out early...
