  • The ugliest van ever made.

  • I like how the "Age of Aerostar" part has music that sounds an awful lot like the "Age of Aquarius," lol

  • I love the style and design of these vans, especially the electronic instrument panel was so cool! But the quality was crappy, many problems along duel A/C that leaked, poor quality of the transmission that did not last, and radiator that was just crappy.

  • '

a nice van but 4 small wheels are not match this van

  • @bestamerica They're the same (or within 1"R) as the competitors at the time.

  • TheZachalope,

    ,

    who is THEY ???,,,

    what is that 1''R,,,

this aerostar ford van should be 4 right size tires are 235 / 75 15R,,,

    not 175 / 70 13R

  • @bestamerica They = The Tires. 1"R = 1" radius. Those wheels are the ones that were available for the 1st run of the Aerostars.

  • TheZachalope,

    '

okay thank explain but carefully read in english, grammar, language, plural of = THEY = ,,,

= THEY = is not the tires,,,

= THEY = is only more than 1 person,,,

anyway this ford aerostar tire must be 15R and not 13R,,,

ford company is not know how to be good measurement tire fix on this aerostar

  • @bestamerica I have no problem with English, I'm sorry if you do (which apparently you do)

Ford used 14" & 15" tires on the Aerostar. GM used 15" tires on the Astro. Chrysler used 14" tires on the K-Platform Van. All three vans were competitors to each other, and all three vans pretty much had matching equipment. There's nothing wrong with the tire size on this van.

  • TheZachalope,

    '

    okay thank explain again,,,

    smile

  • I bought one new in 1990, mine has 450,000 miles on it same engine(never rebuilt) same transmission, body in pretty good shape, ac works, I am going to drive it to mexico in the fall from Florida!Best vehicle I evr has super reliable.

  • Oh wow, this is what my family used for the first eight years of my life. That rust bucket got us places, but looking back on it now, it was a piece of shit.

  • Now The People At Ford Were Thinking: The Areostar Is Horrible Compared The Chevy Astro, So Lets Make The Ads Look Cool and Talk About Chevy's Features and Say They're Ours.

  • We had an '86...tons of problems with it. Stranded my mom once because the crankshaft pulley fell off. Oops!

I loved the rear wheel drive though, it made it into a donut machine, which is important to 16 year olds in Detroit.

  • In 25 years people will be making fun of all the consumer crap you rubes are lusting after right now.

  • I've taken shits with better aerodynamics

  • I have a 96 Aerostar and at 155000 miles it still runs great. It has the 4.0 V6 engine and everything still works good including the AC. AND ITS PAID FOR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My parents got one in '86 and the transmission went out on the interstate when we were in a tornado warning. Scary as hell-I will never buy Ford ever-anything.

  • @gravelandgrain100 Well the truth is a lot of American cars had shady reliability back then.

  • Hahahahahahahaha

  • My parents had one of these. One day the sliding door literally FELL OFF. What a POS.

  • 1986 Models were terrible....Tranmissions.....A/C Sytems....Lots Of problems...Later models were better though

  • ford had to stop making them because the engine used in them was the same as they use in postal trucks, they just keep on going. they replaced it with the windstar

  • @cmndrrm Why does that mean they had to stop making them?

  • I remember my neighbors had one of these when I was a kid. I thought it was PIMP.

  • I would say the best van ever built..it's just so comfy and idk it was really well done period

  • well here is some info for you..your right im an attention whore..thats why ive been a bass player for 25 years lol...i never thought in the box and i tend to blurt out things when they come to mind..i dont do that part for attention but musically i love that sorta thing..its ok..i pay my taxes have a family and so on..its just YT, i think compared to some comments mine are nicer..as for making love, hell id do it anywhere lol (with the proper) girl lol..anyway, no hard feelings..:)

    D

  • we've had a lot of memories on our '93. now we just keep it in the back because we dont want to part with it. too many memories

  • easy to handle my ass. My grandmothers wanders all over the road, but damn is the ride comfy! I love that van!!

  • @Motorfordtoyota Probably because every part in the front end is worn out, it's out of alignment, and the tires are under inflated.

  • @RManBB2010 No, I keep the tires inflated, and it just had new tires and alignment. Its just an Aerostar thing since they are huge vans with a floaty suspension, yeah, you should get the point.

  • They are pretty aerodynamic... until you get a small breeze from the side, it's like the van changes lanes on you. LOL. I have a '93 and I still love it :)

    ...Aquarius!!!

  • Why did that guy park in his garage with the bumper hitting the back wall? Bahahah.

  • How about Ford designing something that's transmission doesn't shit its guts out? Aerostar's tranny's are pretty much the worst in history, second to chrysler's.

  • AQUARRIIUSSSS

  • i made love in one of these 20 years ago lol

  • @sprintbass Your hand must have fond memories

  • @Thilindel uh no the comment was i made love in one of these 20 years ago to a girl...you are the one talking about hands...im talking aout making love..I think the others will agree on this point...i didnt need hands when i had a girlfreind and a van..besides it was a joke...but ladies and gentlemen lets all give this guy a hand..he needs some attention here sounds like.

  • @sprintbass No, an attention whore is someone who randomly post something so gay as to proclaim 'hey, everybody! I got laid in a ford shitbox' Good job...handjob, that is.

  • @Thilindel lol you sound like a really grumpy person...forgive me because i had no idea you are the mavis beacon of comments on youtube....im sorry im random...and my imagination says things...but i tell you what..i promise you if you get laid in a porche caymen then you will have something to brag about..this is america..and i i wanted at 18 to make love in an american car thats my god given right as an american...back then mom didnt have shut doors in her house so sorry only option i had lol

  • @sprintbass Kudos for getting laid...I think? Having been transferred to the ER recently, I'm starting to experience, and actually appreciate people like you who don't think 'just like everybody else.' It's good to not be amongst the flock. It does add variety, and make things ...like topics, more available.

  • Lol at the old "Aerodaynamic" aerostar commercials!

  • Aerostaaaaar, Aerostaaaar!

  • '

a nice van but drinking too much GAS GAS GAS

  • i have one of those xD

  • We hade a 1991 Ford Aerostar and It was a GREAT van. I loved It. I wanted Ity for my first car. It's a nice van to drive.

  • I Love the aerostar jingle @ the end I could care less about the van.

  • Say what you want, but it took a Hurricane to take mine out. My Aerostar NEVER gave me a day of trouble.

  • easy to get in !?

  • this is worse than the robocop 6000 SUX commercial

  • I drove one of these the other day just for shits and giggles and it rides really smooth, i actually kind of liked it surprisingly

  • This may of aired in 1985! but this was advertising the 1986 aerostar! the aerostar didnt debute until 1986!

  • i drive a Aerostar because i hate life ..... LOLZZZ héhé

  • mine has 210000 on it and still going strong! nice vans

  • @dieudonneMC yeah lol mine has 410000 miles,now i have a jaguar though lol

  • I drive an areostar cause I got it for free.

  • @llamafur mine cost $60

  • I saw one of these vans the other day while I was on the road and I just started belting out that "Aerostar! Air-row-star!" jingle that plays at the end of this commercial. It's funny how things can get trapped in your head and then demand being released.

As for the van, OK, that shape was intentional, but why have the two-tone and design work droop in the front? It makes it look like the van's nose is melting off.

  • growing up we had an 89 xl and a 94 xlt...hauled four kids around in it, moved into three houses with it and never once got stuck in the bitchin buffalo winters we dealt with...built like a brick shithouse

  • all hail the aerostar!!!

  • haha fail!

  • @mdoohan007

    my grandpa's still runs

  • yeah! i'm gona show off my grandpa's areostar at the car show in geniva i've been working on it for 3 months

  • wow i still have my grandpa's in our garage i'll never sell it

  • i have one in my garage i have never touched it as it is my great grandpa's car

  • my aerostar sure doesnt take corners like that one does.must have some sweet coilovers!

  • ok the fifth deminsion age of aquarius how approropriate only for some ungodly reason i would think that song would go great with an oldsmobile toronado trofeo commercial say around 1990

  • Looks very similar to a Toyato Van

  • And back then those were SO cool. Now we have all kinds of mini vans of all styles, sizes, etc.

  • lol love the music

  • i had a aero star 5.0 l 302 v 8 that I got in 1987 I had to trash it in 2009 It was hit on the side and the frame got bent this was the best van that ford ever made I can not find a another one like it with a v8 in it. thanks for the video

  • They never made a Aerostar with a V8! and most the people that say it's shit, either drive it like it was a tank, or don't no shit about vans or cars. Pull a 18' boat and any V6 will toss a transmission. Least its not a crappy Dodge Tranny, that goes out every 15k miles!

The recall was on the Wiring connector under the Steering wheel, and a gas tank gasket. which all were on the first 2 year models. Ford screwed up dropping RWD for crappy worthless FWD cars and vans.

  • Too bad they dropped the 5-spd after 95. I don't think that the Aerostar had OBD2 until 96 like most USA vehicles. Really, I would want a 95 manual transmission version and equip it with a stand alone EMS system like Mega Squirt (v3+).

  • ahh my dads friend bought one of these brand new in 86 or 87 anyways and man it was complete piece of crap he had to have the motor rebuilt once and had to replace the transmission 3 times .ALL UNDER WARRANTY..the 86-89 aerostar had horrible tranny problems..just like the 86 taruas and sable the trannys sucked!!! all these vehicles from 86 taruas, sable, aerostar these all had horrible transmission problems..they were very aerodynamic for 1986 but ford should of built them with better quality.

  • These vans are bullet-proof. 200,000 miles and only one alternator fail - today.

  • Mine has about the same amount of mileage, we had to replace the alternator after my wife spilled oil into the alternator, after she did not use a funnel to add oil.

As many beatings that thing has been through, it still runs quite well.

  • Yeah, interesting situation about Aerostar alternator's failing due to oil or antifreeze leaking onto them. Did you know that the mounting bracket for the alternator holds liquid? There is no "hole" to allow drainage if & when oil or antifreeze (or whatever) spills upon the alternator. The goof balls at my local Pep Boys allowed antifreeze to spill on my alternator, then the alternator failed. I drilled TWO 1/4" holes Fore and Aft of the mount to prevent this from happening again. Viva Aerostar!

  • Easy to have an engine fire.

  • im sorry but just about any car from any country from 1981-1994 sucked. but i got to admit. ford pick one cool ass name when it came up with Aerostar and windstar

  • 0:25 Crash test?

  • I'm not sure of what years, but I remember seeing 5 speed manuals in these!!

  • Yeah, mine did. The one I complained publicly about the transmission and door durability of in a comment a ways down from here. It was an '86 cargo van.

  • best minivan no lie astro van sucks

  • I wonder if the person who did the voice over was Burgess Meredith. It kind of sounds like him.

  • I love the Aquarius song they play in the background.

    I miss my grandma's Aerostar :(.

  • my dad has this. over 400,000 miles on it and only 4 breakdowns. thats one breakdown per every 100,000 miles! great car!

  • Im pretty sure the space shuttle handles better

  • These cars used to be pretty popular in Québec until someone kidnapped an 8 year old girl a couple of years back. It made the news for months, and when she was sighted, bound and gagged in a red Ford Aerostar, many people started following these cars around or calling the cops whenever they'd see one. Every cloud has a silver lining, and now Québec hardly has any Aerostars anymore as a result of owners being tired of being followed.

  • When I look at space shuttles, early locomotives and aeroplanes I think to myself... damn, that's cool I guess, but nothing beats the 1985 Ford Aerostar.

  • I'm sure the Smithsonian has an Aerostar smack next to the Wright Flyer.

  • The Ford Milk Carton just didn't have the same ring to it

  • It may have been a greta van and set the modern mini-van for the united states, but its just so damn ugly!!!!

  • We love our Aerostar.

She has about 200,000 miles, stock. She has been beaten a few times, put through water deep enough to soak the carpets, and she keeps coming back for more!

No problems with our 4.0L V6 at all.

  • I was expecting him to say and it fits inside your garage for 1985 that was a big deal as most vans back then were too large for that garage.

As for the engines that came in them I can't say any thing bad about the 3.0 vulcan V6 it was a tank of an engine but the 4.0 Cologne V6 was almost as big a piece of crap as the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 that came in some Chrysler mini vans.

  • ya same with the 2.6l Mitsubishi engine those motors were horrible they had so many problems and the carbs on those motors were horrible to

  • Easy to get in is a feature??? WTF?

  • That is in reference to some of the Chrysler minivans that are very hard to get in and out of, especially the back seat when people are in the middle seat.

  • what a shitty car , european cars rulez

  • LIES!

  • as aero dynamic as a brick house.

  • I was thinking more like a brick in general...

  • it is i hated my grandmas so bad when she got rid of it i shot the galss out of it

  • lmao

  • lol

  • this would be aboul the same time the Taurus came out....that thing looked space age.

  • as aero dynamic as a brick house

  • @artyboy619 lol right it is a block van

  • Man that was cheesy. Was 1985 REALLY that retarded? Holy crap--I was there but I don't remember it being that effed up. The hippie song in the commercial--weird application in 1985.

  • it's a grocery getter....not a space shuttle.

  • But, it's "aerodynamic"!

  • Of course, as a brick.

  • It's just plain damn easy! XD

  • my parents used to have an 87 or 89 that looked exactly like the one in this video

  • Yeah, it was a really cheap fix in the mid 90s, kinda pricey now though

  • lmao its got the shape of a space ship. we used to have an aerostar until the transmission broke

  • Comment removed

  • i have the worst memories of aerostars, not because they were crappy or anything, i just had sooo many 6+ hour drives in my parents old one back before we had gameboys lol

  • Comment removed

  • Hey! At least the Aerostar had passenger-side AM/FM radio in case of such boredom.

But then again, I remembered that bringing SO MANY fights in my grandma's 1993 Aerostar so never mind.

I miss the 90s when Aerostar vans ruled the freeways.

  • Great vans, bad rustproofing

  • God thats hilarious. I had a areostar. it was a big piece of crap!

  • They forgot its easy to drive to a junkyard lawl.

  • my friend had this car...

  • looks like a split brick

  • i have a aerostar!

    1987 aerostar!

    all gauges analogic

    but the aerostar rock!

and my parents have a 1985 aerostar

    all gauges digital

    xlt edition

    super confortable

    greetings!

  • isn't it hilarious that the aerostar was considered streamlined...

In those days i guess but their where mass production autos that were way more streamlined

  • i hav an areostar! i jist keeps on goin 300,000 miles soon!!!(all digital gauges!!!)

  • This is the dawning of the age of economics bail out....

  • its very ugly

  • I remember when they pulled these commercials after the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion.

  • i loveeed my ford aerostar is a 1992 4.0 cologne its a super minivann..

  • My dad had one of those he looked sweet in it with his jheri curl real Juicy!

  • That hog almost did a rollover at 0:20...

  • not so easy too look at LMAO

  • Yes indeed LOL! Always prefered the Dodge Caravan and Chevy Astro, althought the Aerostars are very reliable.

  • The Ford Aerostar is NOT reliable by any means, if my experience with them is to be judged. When they first came out, there was a massive recall about, I think it was tailgates and sliding doors falling off. I can personally vouch for the durability of their transmissions: Comparable to an eggshell.

  • one of my mom's old friends had an aerostar and the sliding door always flew open by itself :P

  • ours did that once, it was a 12 dollar repair in 1997

  • my parents had etheir an 87 or an 89 around then and the door would fly open and when it wasn't open it would think it was open so the annoying ass bell would keep going off

  • i would have been pissed i hated the bell in the aerostar

  • what bell do you mean the door chime????

  • yea i usually just call it the bell :P

  • You must hard on them because ours has 623,000 miles on the orginal motor and tranny, no rebuids, the only thing thats wrong with it now is the powersteering leaks

  • My grandma's 1993 Aerostar's door flew off.. twice!

  • Oh god, lmfao. They compared it with a NASA space ship. Now I wanna see the 1984 Dodge Caravan (lmao)

  • I'd like to fly out into space in an Aerostar.

  • jesus christ they compared it to a NASA space ship!

it's a fuckin aerostar for crying out loud!!!

  • Really? Wow, I guess I need to re-watch the clip, because all I saw was them comparing the nose shape.

  • Gosh.// i remember these commercials...

  • Easy to park? It's like trying to shove a brick into an ice cube tray.

  • Then you need to learn to park better. I have an extended version and I have no problem parallel parking. But then again, I can parallel park a extended E350 too.

  • My dad had a '87 XLT with the digital dash and all the options you could get. It even had a factory graphic equalizer for the stereo. It was cool for a minivan, and it had 150k on it when we sold it.

  • I love the rendition of the "Age of Aquarius" in the background!

  • reAlly nice van

  • My mom has got a 93 Eddie Bauer 4X4 4.0 loaded for its year of vehicle

  • You really like the design?? At that time I really liked the Astro in the LT trim.

  • I've just started looking for info on the Aerostar (I just bought a 1990 blue one)

  • Did the 1985 Aerostar from Ford come with a chime or a buzzer?

  • yes it does, we have three in the family :-) 1985, 1988 and 1990 aerostar
