  • slurping in asian culture shows the chef that you think his food is delicious. it's not ill mannered, it's a compliment.

and also they're eating soba noodles which people say you should slurp while eating. it supposedly makes it taste better when you get some air with the noodles. not sure if that's true but that's the culture

  • Lost my appetite

  • what movie is this

  • @FLAREflare14 Mr. Baseball

  • hahaha,it's fanny.

If you regard slurping noodles as ill-mannered, you do not need to slurp.

    もしあなたが麺をすするのが不作法と思うなら、すすらなくてもよい。

  • これはなんの映画ですか?

  • My family members constantly bitch at me for slurpin my noodles since they think its weird, and I dont even slurp it like that white guy did :P

Also, Im ASIAN, aint it normal?

  • I was eating cup noodles and wanted to see if there was a technique to slurping noodles and then i saw this and i just couldn't stop laughing while trying to eat my noodles. xD

  • @TheCrampz i love cup noodles. too bad i ran out...

  • What movie is this! i must watch!

  • @saifayouby, "Mr. Baseball"-1992.

  • its all fun and games and hhahaha until someone chokes or gets whipped in the eye :|

  • the problem with westerners is just they think they are so high and mighty and that they redicule everything about in asia. they have no respect at all!!!

  • @aikenaten this is very bad comment and is very offensive and stereo typical shame! shame! son shame!

  • @aikenaten

Cant vouch for the Americas, but in England being a noisy eater is as much about offending others as it is about embarrassing yourself. I myself was shocked when I first had noodles here. It was a while before I would slurp them regardless of what people said I still felt like I was portraying bad manners, I know many Japanese who also believe slurping is poor manners. Nothing about being high and mighty, just different ethnographics.

  • @aikenaten i wonder if you realize how ignorant you sound? hypocrite.

  • hole in your wing?

  • hahaha

  • I luv Tom selleck !!!

  • Eating noodles like a boss

  • Tom Selleck's funniest slurp!

  • LMAO

  • Just to tell you guys, the noodles that they're eating in this video are sōmen noodles. ;)

  • Whats the name of this Movie ? anyone knows? Thanks

  • @adrianz3

    Mr. Baseball

  • @adrianz3 Mr Baseball

  • i love the way he holds his chopsticks xD i think the sound is different because the other people did their noodles into a sauce which probably makes them slippery so they can slurp them easily and not so annoyingly. in jacks case he just ate them straight out of the bowl.

  • @SarahBaraful, well, the sauce is actually dashi stock. And in Japan, you're supposed to dip the noodles into the dashi stock and then, slurp the noodle.

  • Wow umm damn bitch

  • 

That's why us Asians only eat our culture foods theres alot of bad lucks and good ones while eating to much to handle for other cultures

  • @555FluffyBunny

Thats clearly a rediculous statement. Every culture has its taboos, and customs, I know living in America means that people feel they can just swipe away any cultural traditions but it doesnt mean places West doesnt have them. Difference is, the world lives by Western traditions so you wouldnt notice them. Knife on the right, spoon above etc.

Slurping is regarded as bad manners in Europe, yet slurping is the natural way to eat it, which is the more culturally advanced idea

  • D:

We watched this movie in Japanese class...

  • get the soup too by slurping...

  • the old man looks like kevjumba's dad! haha

  • wow.. what an asshole!

  • Yes, Japanese and other Asian people slurp, but keep in mind that this Hollywood movie exaggerates it to make audience easy to understand the cultural difference.

  • The only thing he misses out after drinking at 1.42 is letting out a big fart!

  • The biggest benefit of slurping the noodles is that you get more juice in your mouth while chewing the noodles. The juice has the most flavor of the noodle dish. I recommend slurping.

  • @Jtechone You could also use a spoon? And make less noise? You don't have to "advertise" to the entire room that you are eating.

  • theyre lookin at him like he is some kind of disgusting animal #LOL

  • Japs slurp so hard

  • I love this movie, it has been a while since I have seen it though. I always liked Tom and his Magnum PI series and other movies he has done and Japan culture. Not really sure what is with all the retarded comments on here though about racism, etc. I am assuming those posting those comments never actually saw the movie or why he is even there to begin with or the length of time he has been there. Other wise you would not be posting comments like that unless you are what your posting...

  • @Jerrid3 Japanese are super racist!! they dont like foreigners living in there country. I didnt notice this for 5 years of living there. then I started hanging out with non-japanese people and was amazed how racist Japanese are!

  • @jakesan1983

I do not understand. You lived there for 5 years and did not notice, but then hung out with non-Japanese? What are you?

  • @Jerrid3 an idiot lol Im american but when your with a Japanese all the time you wont experience racism like you would when your alone or with other foreigners, especially Brazilians. they hate brazilians!

  • @jakesan1983

You do not have to call your self an idiot or feel foolish. I was only asking you a question. Don't feel so bad. Japanland showed a Brazilian, if I recall correctly, actually becoming one of the next traditional sword makers. Many other foreigners never experience racism either. You lived there 5 years with no racism then all of a sudden they noticed your American? Too funny!

  • i bet the japanese are doing that to make the white guy do it and then laugh behind his backlol

  • Which movie is this??

  • @vo2max90 Mr. Baseball is a 1992 American film that starred Tom Selleck and was directed by Fred Schepisi.

  • how do they slurp like that without choking on the food?

  • whats the movie name?

  • Didn't Tom Green do something like that?

  • Japanese slurp too much. They're over-slurped

  • the japanese are pros.lol

  • what does you have a hole in your swing mean?...

  • @nennu15 yeah, i would like to know that too

  • lmfao mm

  • well he didnt have to get all those noodles like an idiot in one scoop and eat it.. imagine if ppl rolled up a huge ball of spaghetti noodles onto their forks.. theyd be shot and killed by the italian mafia for doing so... white ignorance..

  • Comment removed

  • Tom Selleck is Rxxcist.

    Fxck you! Tom.

  • Tom Selleck is a racist

    Fxxck you Tom.

  • Tom Selleck is fucking racist.

    Everybody knows it!

    Fuck you Tom.

  • 外国人はすすれないよね

  • sticking chopstick onto rice isn't just forbidden in Japan. in China it's also considered bad luck. a really bad move when you're eating with an old asian man. you'll get whacked when you do that

  • 0:33

I can just TELL that those guys are thinking

"Does he really have to slurp THAT loud? If so he is REALLY liking them noodles."

    XD

  • Out of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, the Japanese are the one that make noise the most when eating noodles

  • jack only says "mmm"

  • What movie is this!?

    I must see it!

    lol

  • awesome movie. baseball movies make the best sports movies..by far

  • oww.. b/t/w i can't use fork and knife properly.;;;)

this's bloody funny, but owwhh.. i can't laugh at him too much!! it's me in the west!!!

  • LOLLLLLLL

  • lmao i almost died of laughter :D

  • HAHAHAHAH XD

  • I found this way funnier than I suspect I should have.

  • from what i understand, slurping is encouraged in Japan because it shows how much you appreciate and enjoy the food.

1:52 -- not a smart move, on Jack's part. Japanese people typically consider it bad luck to stab food with chopsticks, because that's what they do to a bowl of rice at someone's funeral.

  • Thank you good person, i wondered why that was bad luck.

  • @ApacheMan2K omg really? o.o my mom told me its like a sign of the dead cuz the chopstick stands up and represents a tombstone :/

  • @ApacheMan2K

Respecting tradition these days shows only how stupid you can possibly be !

  • @MotoscuterZ It's not stupidity; it's respect for other people's customs. You sure wouldn't get along with anyone if you were visiting their countries.

  • @MotoscuterZ just cuz you dont know respect, it doesn't make it stupid. You're stupid for not having respect.

  • lol that's hilarious.

yes, someone commented when I slurped my spaghetti noodles tee-hee.

And I learned about the chopsticks in the rice. So funny.

  • he said, you have hole in your butt. lol lol.

Oh, one more thing, why is that American guy is eating only rough noodle or soba?? he should dumb it into some soy sauce ingridient soup and eat it..

  • maybe, he hasn't sampled Japanese cuisine, before.

  • that is freaking funny.. Well, those Japanese are being too over reacting.. That's fiction.. but,, funny.. pu hahaha

  • haha very funny looking. way those Japanese are eating, looks like clone. lol

  • rofl, when some non-asian does something stupid people automatically assume its american

  • I'm guessing they were eating soba weren't they?

  • lol

    it's polite...

  • THANKS FOR THE VID. (:

i'm so gona show this vid to my class tmr for my presentation. lols

  • This is one character in a film, and most of you act like all Americans are disrespectful toward other cultures. I think you people who make comments like this are yourselves narrow-minded and disrespectful.

  • Exactly, This movie is actually about the racial struggle of a black player playing in japan.

  • HAHAHA

    ohh man thats funny

  • Slurp slurp! I love noodles. I just finished my ramen. :)

  • Mmm.

  • I love this movie. Uncivilized is not the word to describe this. People, who do not respect other cultures, always look things within their narrow limited mind. The person, who commented this was uncivilized, must be living in such a small society and never gone out to see the World. This is the problem for the Peace of the World. Sorry for him/her.

  • You know, if all of the american people respected japanese tradition, I would like them.

But they don't, and they think its okay, so I don't like them.

Just because the americans don't have rules, doesn't mean you can break the japanese ones!

  • you and me both! i find alot (not all) to be very full of themselves and see themselves higher than everyone else. they think what they know is right and screw everything else

  • A. All cultures have rules.

    B. Get off your high japanese horse.

Not all americans who come to japan are like this. It's a movie telling the story out your also racist country, but the tom selleck character was a black man.

  • Maybe to you guys, its rude. But in Japan, that's okay.

Plus, it was the american guy that was rude.

(He made fun of it and slurped like an idiot, held chopsticks like a 3 year old, and sat like a stupid american.

  • whoa here man look prejudice goes both ways okay. Slurping is okay in japan, fine. But there was no certain way to slurp in japan so he slurped his noodles in a much different manner hes not japanese. In america we don't eat with chopsticks, the asians do. Don't be so damn judgemental. He was in the country for his first year he'll learn the culture. Not all americans are the japanese stupid american stereotype.

  • [SLURPING]

  • I LOVE NOODLES!!!

  • Very funny
