Fun fact: Did you know that the design of "Ω Zone"(The final boss) is based on a real-life creature known as an "Elephant Jellyfish"?
Seriously, Google image them(I reccomend that you use their Japanese name, "ゾウクラゲ" and compare them to "Ω Zone". I guarantee that you'll be surprised at how much they resemble each other.
since Square-Enix owns Taito now, it's a dream of mine that they may one day remake this masterpiece! hell, even as a DLC game for PSN and Xbox Live! please hit "like" if any of you ladies & gents agree!
This seems a lot like another Taito series, Darius. Hmm, its kind of cool. I read that this game helped influence the creation of Border Down on the Dreamcast. It makes sense actually because I had always thought that certain elements of Border Down were reminiscent of games like Darius Gaiden and G-Darius.
@TheCuster58 this WAS going to be Darius 3, actually, but Taito decided at the last minute to make it into it's own game. and those who made this gem of a game (some of them anyway) helped in the development of Border Down.
@triplestar100 It's interesting how companies develop. For example, G.Rev. was founded by a group of Taito employees, and Treasure was formed from former Konami employees. All that SHMUP experience did them good when they teamed up on some of their most famous games.
@dezm101 I agree! In my eyes, this has got to be the best game TAITO has ever created, and why they are my favorite Arcade developer. Why? Well 2 reasons- 1. In the early 90's such as this game and the Taito F3 hardware, many of their games used a lot of sprite fading, rotation, scaling, and crazy background effects, and NO OTHER DEVELOPER except Taito did this. 2. Team Zuntata's music.

@XGluon
And that isn't the only boss that's based on a real-life creature.
The other example is the third boss, "Daio and Gishiin".(Daio is the beetle, while Gishiin is the big creature.)
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Daio is based on a dung beetle, but Gishiin's inspiration, on the other hand, is far more obscure.
Gishiin is based on a prehistoric crustacean known as the "Opabinia".
(In fact, Gishiin practically IS a giant Opabinia!)

Ending STILL doesn't make sense, no matter how much I see it.

You know a game has an awesome soundtrack when the creators even put the name of their tracks in the stage.

@triplestar100 Doubt it, if they cared THAT much about Taito, they'd release another proper compilation by now.

Two mentions of SNK here? You can tell Taito's music a mile off. Good ol' Zuntata.
I've never heard of this but I love the sound of it.
As for the Shoot em up mentioned in the SNK Arcade Classics vol 1. I think u might be talking about Last Resort (another great game)
