hey cat i know a cheap camera which has a pretty good quality its a FLIP camera only 160$ (dollars) the quality is the same as yours (the new one) at least for youtube it is i hape it helps ^_^

to be honest I do have plenty of new footage to edit filmed before the cam broke but as 'I'd semi-already edited this 6 years ago' and I haven't had much spare time recently I'm afraid I went for the easy option and posted this... but don't tell anyone ;)

I can see that you're somebody else for who YouTube was invented for. It amazes me how many people were making this type of video way back when.

BTW. How do you convert Hi8 footage? I've got loads of old family stuff on Hi8 & would love to be able to put it onto my PC :)

all, well I didn't exactly convert Hi8 to DV although the footage was filmed on a Hi8 camcorder. Basically I had the old Hi8 footage on VHS tapes (that was how I crudely did the editing between 2 VHS recorders and the camcorder), so I'm actually converting VHS to DV using an external device called 'Maglia Directors Cut' - cost about £200 but there must be cheaper ways

I see the party had the obligitary 'Im not dressing up' attendees. Two people in notmal clothes sat on the sofa, with a guy behind them wearing a red lace blouse, stockings and Y-fronts. I wonder who felt more out of place.

I totally agree with your comment about being more polished now but it's unfortunate that the old stuff which I'm transferring from VHS looks even less polished because during the capture process I keep losing frames due to the quality of the tape.

And it's funny, I'm about to edit some new 'Evening With' material but I guess even that is kind of old as it was filmed August/September, at least now I have a chance to catch up :)

well the quality of the transfer may be iffy, but it does give it a sort of 'vintage' feel to it - and I already give you big credit for being able to transfer from VHS! :)

Now about the video. Love the "going back in time intro" Clever! Yet I knew the Cat was ahead of his time. If only you would have been in on the deal with Chad and Steve and created YouTube! Dammit ;) Were these just home videos or were you into doing actual sketches and shows back then too? Would love to know. SSJ was quite a Buffy fan I believe.

these are just home/holiday/party videos but I follow a basic simple rule - "do not tape for more than 5 seconds unless something interesting is happening" ok... so sometimes you have to prompt funny things to happen but even when the camera is off I'm usually having a laugh with friends so it's not a lot differen when the camera is on

I love what you are doing by posting this up! I have so much vintage Reagan, I might fake that my camera broke to be able to post it ;) Seriously, hope it you get it sorted soon but this is great. A few years back I bought an internal TV Capture card that works with SVHS only, but does the trick quite well and it only cost me $45. Some no name brand. I love converting VHS format to digital. Now I'm looking for a more modern usb type external capture device.

wow you got a bargain, I bought some kind of 'external gadget' that converts VHS and it cost £200! It does lose frames but I think that is more to do with the quality of the tape than the converter

well the orinal cut of this complilation vid made in 2001 is 40 minutes, and this complilation doesn't even cover the actual 'Buffy Party' or my 'Hawaii-30 Party filmed later that year so I'd probably best split the early stuff over next year or so ;0
