  • Just tried this out. I used full size drumsticks and wings, so I doubled the recipe. It took a lot longer to reduce the sauce down so I had to remove the chicken for a while to avoid overcooking. I added it back in right at the end to coat the wings with the sauce. It turned out amazing! Definitely will try this again.

  • Did you know woks are the very first non stick cookware ever created? The Chinese invented this thing and you have pretenders like T-Fal and the lot come and put some chemical coating on our cookware giving us carcinogens with our food.

    You don't really need oil is what I'm saying.

  • @supercooled My newer woks (Carbon and Cast Iron) are developing really good coatings. I have mostly retired this one from stir fry service.

  • @Emandudeguyperson Just try them, if you hover over them like a hawk while you cook and cook it thoroughly without burning them they look a lot better than any picture i've seen on the internet. And taste fucking amazing, with some rice and soy sauce as a side...

    I wouldn't put a full tablespoon of red pepper flakes though, I did the first time I made these, but I find it overtakes all of the other flavours too much

  • @ThisIsRelevant Yes at the end when you really start to form the caramel you do have to watch them. What really blew me away about these is the texture.

  • I would find it a waste of time to just cook 12 wings. I'd probably do up about 5 lbs. at a time.

  • why put the sugar to caramelize them if your gonna braise it anyway. and i would use smashed garlic chunks in the marinade. why not arrange the wings in the pan let them to sick a little, then when the wings are fully cooked you will have fond in the wok, de-glaze it with a little chicken stock, add soy , dr. pepper, red chilies, green onion, and then reduce. serve sauce over the wings and white rice and top it off with more green onion. thats how i would do it

    Another thing I am thinking about doing. Is boil down the Dr Pepper without the wings. Deep fry the wings and add them to the sauce after it is cooked.

  • Try it without the sea salt. If you need it you could add it at the end.

  • I use dr. pepper in my adobo hot wing recipe with a little vinegar peppercorn and a couple of bayleaf for a little extra flavor. Dr. is is awsome for BBQ and wing sauces.

  • Honeyknut, I saw a vid with a guy using Coke but used star anise and some other tings not common in most US homes. Then it hit me Dr Pepper has other flovors in it so I gave it a try. And it works.

  • Yes it does! I'm making again tonight. I know it's late in the evening but I have a craving for them. Try them with some habanero hot sauce. Not much pepper taste but the right amount of heat.

  • Wow again aready? I see that need to try them with habanero. But I will let you in on a secreat I was not using Pizza house pepper flakes they were from an Indian market so they do carry a big stick!

    Okay, so my wife, my son & myself just finished dinner. i followed your recipe for these wings and they came out great. I used a couple drops chile habanero hot sauce for the heat, which I believe is better than using crushed red pepper. Thanks for sharing! My wife enjoyed them and my son is still scared of sticky food. Ha ha! Good eats!

    I'm typing this while I wait for the 30 mins of marinate time for these wings you have convinced me to make. I hope they come out as good as they look. Only thing is that I don't have crushed red pepper. i'll try something else for the heat. I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for sharing.

    Most colas will work but then you need to add other spices. Dr Pepper has more things in it so I was able to do this with what most Americans have at home. My Coke wings will be comming soon but it has more items.
