one of my baby sparrow is not eating and its eyes is always closed, it has feathers but not the whole body yet. what should i do please reply as soon as possible becuase i really want to save it
@AwesomeJingTan You should go to a vet of a large pet supply store and arks the for seed eater raising mix, or tell them what type of bird it is and they should know what type of raising mix to use.
@XxXMidnightblackXxX thanks for replying but its dead :( its choked on a food ... i ask my parents to send him to a vet but they were too laazy and didnt even care :(
’m sorry to hear that it died. How old was it, or how many feathers did it have if it had any? Also have a video I made about how to look after a baby black bird, it also have some information on how to look after other birds if you still want to know what to do in case you find another bird.
I know that it works because I have raised and released 5 black birds and looked after many other animals as well.
It's not always cheap either, it was expensive and very time consuming feeding the baby woodpecker. Luckily, he was a hardy sucker and even though he didn't care much for mealworms, I'd give him a variety of choices and he'd pick what he wanted out of the insects and bugs and worms.
They're easier to raise and release when they're feathered b/c they've already imprinted on their parents & only look to you to finish their feeding/care until their strength is regained & when they start flying let them go. Baby bird care in fledglings usually doesn't exceed 2-3 days. If they're younger, then they may require longer care but if it's winter & the parents aren't feeding them on the ground, u can help them. In the spring, best leave them be unless there's no choice.
I would let him out to practice flying b/c he couldn't fly well the first day and he got good at it in the bathroom I made safe for him. He pecked at himself in the mirror, landed on my head and pulled on my hair trying to make a nest, pecked on the carrier, chased crickets on the carpet, ate numerous insects and worms of all kinds, and started flying around the room away from me when he finished his meals. He was ready for release on Xmas morn and is thriving now. He now is wild again.
I had fed it soft Gerber baby food (baby beef kind) w/a 1cc syringe a tiny bit just inside the beak. I had to force feed it gently at first by opening its beak carefully by lightly pulling on the tuft under the chin which gently opens their mouth and put a small blip of food and he swallowed it and then sqawked for more. After 1 1/2 he started eating on his own from a bowl. I gave him calcium sup., worms, grubs found outside & pinhead crickets he chased & ate them all. He slept in carrier
My cousin called saying her two children found the bird in the yard on the ground, weak w/no other birds or parents around feeding it and it had rained the days beforehand. The nest must've blown out of the tree and the other siblings had probably flown the coop or didn't make it. Not finding a licensed rehabilitator during the busy holiday, I gave them some the stuff to take care of the bird but they had trouble & told me to come and get it. So I used my bird books & cared for it.
Boy, I was stuck doing this very thing over the Christmas holiday on Thursday Dec.22nd 2011 thru Sunday Dec 25th Xmas morning and I was dang tired. I was up most of the early morning and night. Had to get up at 5:30 and prepare a baby YellowBellied Sapsucker Woodpecker bird's meals. Twiggy was a male woodpecker type bird I released on Xmas morning when it was warm,70 degrees and sunny outside here in Arkansas. He's doing well outside putting hole in trees, he's bigger now.
This is crap, just go to the pet store and get baby bird feed and google the correct temperature that your food should be at for your specific bird. Mixing dog food and all that crap can only mess the baby stomach since they don't digest food like other animals. Some dog food have bone in it and a bunch of artificial garbage in it. Like GFUSwagg said " Step 9 Unsubscribe"
epicparker45 is correct. That bird in the video is a baby dove. With some birds, you can force feed them, but if you find a baby dove, they must be fed a grain-based formula, that you feed through a hole cut in a plastic bag, or something similar. They will insert their beak into the bag, and drink the formula. Meat will make them very sick, or they will most likely refuse to eat it/spit it out.
this bull crap those are dove so you have to either open its mouth and feed it with a syringe or mage a hole from a tube and feed it that way doves dont open mouths only whaen it feels like its inside its mothers beak. i should know ive raised two of them and trying to raise a baby parakeet

@alanmrubiano Do you know ALL birds are lactose intolerant so they will die if you give them milk, and bread especially white bread is really bad for birds especially baby, so you should not tell people to feed them it.
No, I disagree with your advice. Go to Petsmart or other big chain pet store. Obtain baby bird hand feeding mix in powder form. Zupreem, Kaytee etc. ask an employee if you can't find it. Follow the direcitons. Crush tiny mealworms for extra protein. I feed about 3 a day. I use a 1cc syringe to feed. Feed every 30 min. or hour while you are awake and use a warm water bottle as a nest inside another larger box. I used a low setting heating pad too. I'm raising a bluejay and succeeding.
Ok, first of all, I don't HAVE all that shit. I don't have a dog, so I don't have dog food. I don't have a baby so I don't have baby cereal either! I'm broke right now, can't buy anything. What the fuck! This baby bird is gonna die all because we can't feed them something simple!
@ashlanas my cat brought home 3 baby birds 2 which was dead so I rang around every rehabber in my area and no one will take the one live bird because they said it will die within 48 hours, HES NOW OVER 56 HOURS AND STILL GOING STRONG yet they wont take it still.
if wed of said he's a rare falcon baby then I'm sure they'd of jumped to the chance to take it.
@leeky1988 I looked at your profile and I believe you are in England?? I am in the US and am a wildlife rehabber. Gosh, someone here had baby birds, they would be taken in a heartbeat. I am not sure how things work over there. If they are falcons, they are soooo protected!!! Legally, people with out a license can not keep wildlife for more then 24hours. I think you need to find out what kind of bird it is, that could change the diet entirely as it is very important at this age.
@leeky1988 I am so sorry about no one helping you! That really stinks! Please keep trying..........especially if you only have one bird left. We never raise any animal by itself. They need to grow up with what ever kind of animal they are. Good luck!

All u need is bread, milk and if u want some small worms.
1. add a little amout of milk into a container
2.add pieces of bread and let the bread become soggy
3.Grab little pieces of the soggy bread and let the baby birds pick on it or if the open there mouths drop it on their mouths
Now, after they have aeten they are probably thirstyso dip your finger in water and let the baby bird nibble on your finger!
