  • Anatole Kitain was a contemporary and classmate of Vladimir Horowitz in Russia. Anatole's playing is every bit as good as Horowitz's. Anatole's three other brothers were also world class musicians. Check out the book about Anatole Kitain at Barnes and Noble, Mindstirmedia and (soon) Amazon, "The Lost Musicians" by Donald Kitain

  • I like it.

  • Oh, by the way i wanted to ask, is he jewish?

  • rachmaninoff is epic.

  • kitain is so so good........

  • My last name is Kitain , hhh.. There are really few people with that last name, kinda wired having a Good musician with that last name..

  • I wish I had

  • @Villeggiatura Another winner of a post, brother! (:-D) How beautifully the great Kitain plays this piece!

  • Once you have heard Rakhmaninov play this, it is hard to find anything that comes close......

  • @theNotSoDivineMsM Where can I find Rachmaninoff play this ? I tried to find in YouTube but it didn't come up in the search.. Thanks!

  • @alshraphaelia There are many in YouTube, all from piano rolls (Ampico). The best one now is "Малахитовый зал. Эрмитаж (Рахманинов).wmv". If you don't find it let me know. I'll send it to you :-)

I like Kitain's interpretation, though it's very different than Rach's.

  • Actually I can't thank you enough for this record, because it is the best interpretation of the Elegie I've ever heard.

Except that 2.05-2.40 is too fast, everything else just perfect!!!

    A real masterpiece of pianism!

    Bravo Kitain!!!

  • Ill have to disagree with you. For me theres not enough passion in this. compared to other interpretations (and how i like to play this piece) i think this version is too mechanical, i prefer more rebato and emotion put into it. its still good, no doubt, but ive heard better

  • And I've read better comments.

  • I'll have to agree with this guy, I don't feel enough passion in the playing...

  • Thanks for sharing!!!!

Is there any info when the record was made? Any other records by Kitain playing Rachmaninoff?

  • 1938.

    Etudes Tableaux Op.33/1 & Prelude Op. 32/12
