Anatole Kitain was a contemporary and classmate of Vladimir Horowitz in Russia. Anatole's playing is every bit as good as Horowitz's. Anatole's three other brothers were also world class musicians. Check out the book about Anatole Kitain at Barnes and Noble, Mindstirmedia and (soon) Amazon, "The Lost Musicians" by Donald Kitain
@alshraphaelia There are many in YouTube, all from piano rolls (Ampico). The best one now is "Малахитовый зал. Эрмитаж (Рахманинов).wmv". If you don't find it let me know. I'll send it to you :-)
I like Kitain's interpretation, though it's very different than Rach's.
Ill have to disagree with you. For me theres not enough passion in this. compared to other interpretations (and how i like to play this piece) i think this version is too mechanical, i prefer more rebato and emotion put into it. its still good, no doubt, but ive heard better

Actually I can't thank you enough for this record, because it is the best interpretation of the Elegie I've ever heard.
Except that 2.05-2.40 is too fast, everything else just perfect!!!
A real masterpiece of pianism!
Bravo Kitain!!!
