AMAZING.... I've been fortunate to see them a few times now (including House of Blues Hollywood, the Sgt. Pepper's 40th & 41st shows at the Hollywood Bowl, and most recently, the awesome Dream Police Show at The Greek). If you get the chance to see them - in any form - live, DO IT. And let's petition the Hall of Fame. Can't call it Rock 'n' Roll HoF if Cheap Trick isn't in it. Period.
yes i agree this American Band should be in the Rock Hall of Fame for their longevity and committment to rock and roll, and still together since 1975, and yes lets not mistake the Best rock Bass player of the 70's and current Mr. Tom Petersson, inventor of the 12 string Bass, this man ROCKS!!! l.a. fan! since onset
It hurts to see Robin's voice failing him because his heart is obviously still in it. Not bad though. Good to see Dax getting lot's of face time. Classy performance.
@CurtisScofield -- the fella on drums in this video is Daxx Nielsen, Rick's youngest son. I believe he's about 31 now ... Brad Carlson (Bun E.) is playing with several other bands in the Rockford, Illinois, area these days ... they do shows here and there in Rockford and the Chicago area .... occasionally he still plays gigs with CT.
@CurtisScofield -- well, .... Carlson is an extremely private guy, really, ... and he turned 60 this year, so I think he may be getting a little tired. He IS very philanthropic (once donated about 5,000 cds to the Rockford, IL, Public Library), but tries to remain anonymous in public. Wikipedia has good info regarding his newer projects, Tinted Windows (w James Iha) and Candy Golde. ** Rick Nielsen, to this day, remains Fabulous to ALL the fans. Will visit with any fan, anytime, in public.
@groofoot You're right about Rick. I met him and Bun E about 12 years ago when they came in to the bar where I worked. I passed Rick on his way in, and was immediately star-struck. I didn't know what to say, so I yelled "OMG Rick Nielsen". He turned around and shook my hand. I stammered that I was a lifelong fan and it was great to meet him, and he responded with "it's even better to meet you!". Bun E. was a great guy too. I called him Mr Carlos, and he said "call me Bun E."
@2266mike --- Robin was born in Jan. 1953 ... so, .. let's c, he'll be 59 next month ... graduated from Harlem High School, in Loves Park, IL, .. class of 1971 ... and I'm proud to say that my dad graduated from the same school! :D lol
love cheap trick. i saw them open for reo speedwagon in 80s. i thought it should of been cheap trick headlining.they were great.and still are ...iconic band
They're playing at Voodoo next Sunday in NO and I have a ticket, can't wait. Saw them in Mississippi last May. They were great! And that IS Tom Petersson. He gave me a pick!!!
@TheAnthonybozza Are you retarded? What would make you even think that? If you were going to point out a missing member of Cheap Trick you'd point out Bun E. Carlos on drums...filled in nicely by Daxx Nielsen, Rick's son.
I love this track by Cheap Trick thanks for posting this, Robin's voice is in top form, please check out my video "Auf Wiedersehen" youtube.com/watch?v=gmm3V1IWdJY
This is Rick Nielsons son on the drums -- just saw them at the Motor City Casino - Soundboard Room, --- very good show -- they did an awesome job - I got in the front row, stage left--- Ive seen them two times -- and at Soaring Eagle Casino in MP Michigan- - they put on a killer show
@RebelThoughts C'mon man. Cheap Trick opened for KISS in 1977. Have you ever listened to KISS Alive! or how about Destroyer? Kiss has more than a few good songs in their catalogue and have influenced everyone from Motley Crue to Garth Brooks to Lenny Kravitz. Of course they should be in there and Cheap Trick too. I just saw Cheap Trick a couple of months ago and they were better than ever. Peace.
@louielovett Jann Wenner is too busy kissing the asses of his high-profile friends like Yoko Ono, to whom he gives five-star album ratings. Honestly, a cat scratching a blackboard has more talent.

@louielovett WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT OFCOURSE THEIR IN THE RRHOF..THEY MUST BE..THIS IS WHAT I GREW UP ON..THEM DAVID BOEW PRINCE CHEAP TRICK..YEAH THEIR IN IT..I KNOW THE GUY WHO ENGENERED THEIR MUSIC....
@louielovett A lot of great artists aren't in the Hall of Fame. But they DID include Madonna, Jackson Five, Al Greene & Stevie Wonder. And I'm not saying those artists are bad, in fact I love Stevie Wonder, but they're not rock & roll.
To the RRHoF's credit, though, they did recently induct Genesis. However, they should've been inducted a LONG time ago. So yeah, the RRHoF still sucks.
Made the road trip from Minneapolis to Milwaukee to see Cheap Trick perform the entire Dream Police album, my all time favorite, with orchestra on Feb. 4, 2011. Truly a treat! Robin's voice was better than ever. Also discovered that Milwaukee is a really fun town. My thanks to Roy & Santiago, the drivers for The Ambassador Inn's free shuttle service, for driving me to the show and all around town without worries.
Also, it's a miracle that Robins voice has held up. I don't know of any other 58+ year old rock singer with maybe the exception of Mick Jagger.(who isn't a belter anyway)... where the singing voice basically just becomes shot or goes into a much deeper register .
Some of the greatest rock front men like Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant have unfortunately lost much of their classic sound. I Robin has somehow maintained it.
@bob12345252 Well I like all those performers that you have mentioned. I think Paul has his good days and bad. Some concerts he can still blow you away and his voice sounds prime but more often than not his pitch has come down a bit but he is remarkable for 69 years old. Bruce and Gene never had that high pitched sound so they didn't have much to lose in terms of their voice. They both don't sound much different than they did years ago.
@westy40 Yes - a shame that Daltrey is done, but he kicked ass while he had it. Same with Plant. Mick Jagger never really could sing, but his voice is long gone.
@beeroosterm Yeah it really does suck about Daltrey because he was so incredible in his prime. I did read just recently that Roger said he has had some major throat problems the last 3 years that he is trying to "work out".
If you watch videos of Plant the last few years.. he surprisingly on some nights comes close to that old Zeppelin sound. I thought Mick dominated the Grammy awards earlier this year singing Everyboday Needs Somebody to Love.
@billmeedog I agree with you on Hagar. I am not a huge fan of his but I've heard some of his recent live stuff and the guy can definitely still belt it. He also looks about 20 years younger than he actually is.
Thanks for posting. Had seen it when it first aired and thought they sounded fantastic. Good to be able to see it again, also think it's reairing March 16th.
I gotta feeling they liked ELO? I've seen alot of similarities between both bands like unbelievably catchy melodies and chord progressions. Obviously Cheap Trick were more straight ahead Beatles style rock and roll where ELO were more Beatles style progressive pop.
Bun E is playing with a new band called "Tinted Windows". The line-up includes the Hanson kid, James Iha from SP's, and the Fountain of Wayne dude. Kind of a power pop outfit.
