Ronson's, but a lot of the British tanks lit up on the first strike as well. Petrol engines. What did you expect. The Germans had diesel engines I think
@kiwis0uth The germans used gasoline (aircraft grade) as well. The major difference is the Germans put their fuel tanks in areas of the tanks that were better protected than the American fuel tanks. The Germans thought about diesel, but they were too heavy and too prone to failure in the 1940's to be used in tanks. The russians did use diesel, and their T-34 and KV tanks suffered worse engine problems than the germans had.
I would love to go into a time-machine next to one of those wrecks. Then you can see those tanks slowly come alive! And in the end you will going to see troops fighting with it.
Thinks like this always go around in my head when I see things like this.
They got what they deserved.. Europe would be free if they did not come here and destroy, the impose multiculturalism that made the muslim hordes come here and push us away.
@bob98127 Your kind of right. That Sherman had a C1 Radial engine. Much like an aircraft engine but modified to deliver more torque with a lighter weight :)
the first tank was shot to hell, you can see all the armor piercing bullet holes in the hull and whats left of the turret. the second one looked like it got stuck and all of the guns removed. The third one could be restored possibly.
@GR8TM4N i think it is really not that easy. manpower, logistics..by the way my friend, just to be sure; i hope ur not offended, cause it was more of a joke, light talk. im not trying to ridicule ur statement to restore them, cause the idea is good, i agree with that. i just think it is not that easy... one may wonder why they havent done this already.. besides that, if you do this tank, guess how many people around europe and other places are going to make the same request for their wrecks..
@sebaz1982 No, no, no offence at all. It's OK. I guess that if it was of any worth to recover them, they would have done it already. Those who decide those things probably believe that these vehicles are not of any worth to make such a effort.
Damn we read in every kind of movie like that " i would like discover a tank in wild like that" . And the same guy say just after " It's a shame to not restore those tank and put them into a museum".
There are largely enough sherman in museum all around the world .
From an archaeological point of view and from common people it's 10 more exiting to see them where they were destroyed than in line in a museum ...
I would like to see photos these wrecks sherman photos taked during war and It would be very interesting if we can to know how these tanks was destroyed. Good video people
@ricksq They arent battle damaged, they are old french army tanks( us overstock was sold all over europe after the war) they stand on a shooting range, also the only reason they are still there. You werent thinking you could still find them in the wild, did ya?
Ohh thanks tupolev !! I didnt know, i didnt saw details informing what you said. I imagined this because there are places on the Europe, Afrika and pacific that keep destroyed tanks at the original destruction position (not purposely). Places like Iwo Jima, balaton lake, North Afrika even Russia. Thank you
@astrialkil shermans were built in former tractor factories, the parts of the sherman are extreamly similar to regular tractor engines. most likely that the engines are used for parts to fix up multiple tractors or use the sherman engine to make the tractor stronger/faster.
@88pie88 I'm not saying your wrong , there is much i don't know but I heard Shermans used rotary engines like in WW1 air planes. I haven't heard of tractors using that type of engine. I just re watched the vid and those are rotary engines. The engines are still there but in the cut up one the transmission seems to be missing, maybe that is what they were after? The last tank is in such nice shape its a shame no one rebuilds it.
@astrialkil i coult be wrong, i might be thinking about the stuart or the t-34. but im sure they used the parts. or the coper wire in the transmission could be of vaule, and yes it is a shame, i bet if they used all these shermans, i bet they could fix up 2 or three shermans.
@astrialkil: Not exactly rotary engines; a rotary has the propellor fixed to the engine and the two turn together. Those were from the WWI era.
These Shermans had WWII radial engines, where the engine stays still and just the shaft turns. It is clearly visible in this footage. They were Wright-Cyclone 9-cylinders; a radial always has an odd number of cylinders.
@88pie88 No tractor factory ever built a tank in the USA (unless you would call e.g. Ford a tractor factory because they built tractors, too); you may be thinking of the USSR?
Most M-4s were mass-produced in motor city, Detroit, on a miles-long assembly line in a plant built for this purpose.
It is sad to see them fade away given that they are in some ways the lasting memorial for men who may have died on that spot, but at the same time I get really annoyed with our modern inability to keep our grubby paws off a things for that very reason. Those tanks sitting there, silently, is a solemn reminder of what went on, and if they can serve to call to mind even the slightest idea of what was happening there so long ago, then it is equally important that they not move.
Which biville is meant here?
