  • the "what ever it is fabric" is called bias tape... it can be single or double fold; you were using double fold:*)

  • i really like this making of, but i'm spanish and i dont't understand very well your explication :S

  • hey i liked so much this video. But can you do another one about an overbust corset? please i need that ;)

  • I like that corsit I wish u can mack me one

  • the only time i got confused was figuring out how you did the channels for the boning.. i read the part about adding the seam to each side of the main seams connecting the layers then you cleaned up the front and all of a sudden you had channels for boning to be put in.. i dont know if i got confused or if you skipped it.. help!

  • @bengalkisses I think what you mean is in 5:40. I didn't put the images in the same order as they were when I made the pictures, so the channels have an appearance before I actually start talking about them. Sorry for the confusion^^

  • i like a lot this video, but i get a little confused sewing the layers i guess is just a matter of practice

  • the last thing to do is to put the eyelets in.. i perfer doing this with a hammer xD.. made my day lolol

  • maybe you should've talked while doing this... its actually a pretty shitty video...

  • @Nandanyx where exactly do u get thm for 20$ cuz ive got a really big dance coming up & it wud make it uber awesome if i had a shaped bod so i look cuter! thanx a million!!!! : )

  • @StrawberrySporty14

How would you dance is bodice??

  • where I live I buy corsets for like $20 dollars :3 if one of them breaks or rips [I use them a LOT] I can make one =D

  • @Nandanyx

where do you live? I wanna buy a corset for 20 bucks!!! unless theyre cheaply made then I guess I know why theyre 20 bucks

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa thats ssoooo cute im tryin that right now peace!!!

  • the whatcha ma call it fabric is bias tape :)

  • That's brilliant! I don't know whether English is your first language or not, but I understood that! Sometimes I had to pause and work it out in my head, but it's not difficult to understand, sometimes you just need to stop and think about it for a second or two. This is the most detailed corset-making video I've seen so far, I think i'm going to start looking for resources so I can make my own!

    Thankyou for uploading this. :)

  • quick question about the adding the eyelets. did you cut holes into the fabric first or did you do something else. sorry if this is kind of a dumb question, but i'm a beginner and other than that part i understood everything perfectly.

  • LOL... That what-ever-it's-called fabric you wrap around your edges is called bias tape... an awsome way to finish raw edges... :) Kudoz on the video, it was very informative.... 5 stars :)

  • how long did it take you to sew this entire corset?

  • I only have one big question....How i make the patterns to fit my body? I mean...Those are patterns with a kind of weird form xD, i dont know how to like know where, in my body, does each of the patterns gonna be on...If you can please explain me how to do this i will be so grateful!! Pleasee :D

BTW: I dont even speak english like a native lenguage and i understood the whole video! so cool :D

  • @mafe2405 I have a video up on how I usually make my patterns... other than that I think there are pretty good patterns one can buy online, there also should be an explanation going with it, but I never tried that out for myself so I'm not quite sure^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Thank you so much!!..I love victorian fashion and design, but unfortunately i wasnt able to study fashion design, actually im studying Products Design Enginner, but i hope that someday i will be able to incorpore fashion design on it, by now im kinda fighting with a sewing machine that my uncle send to me as a present, ´cause obviously i have no knowledge of sewing at all, so thank you so much for helping me with ur videos in order to be able to design and sew.

  • ...Does anyone else understand this? If you could make a video talking us through all of it while u make one that would be SO helpful. begging u to do this video haha please please try :> nice corset by the way :)

  • @oliveberry13 I did that already there's an entire playlist up.

  • @Goldkehlchen20 :O no way haha I'm retarded I'll go check it out and subsribe while I'm at it ;)

  • Congratulations, excellent video...much appreiciated :))

  • wow thats amazing and beautiful i founf you video very informative and easy to understand thank you

  • I am so getting an A on my project :D

I am so psyched to make this, that you very much for the video, helped a lot.

  • lil bit of talking might help. ._.;

  • @PerfectPride Didn't have a camera or microphone back when I made that video, sorry^^

  • lol i love this video! very helpful and i love your terms!! i have yet to make a corset, and plan on it this summer! i'll be using your vid! i teach sewing classes and i always love to hear what people lable the terms they dont know! 4:17 is called stitch in the ditch for the future, but your wording was perfect!

  • this was an awesome video. very easy to follow, thank you very much:-)

  • I am an avid corset maker and have been teaching myself to read and understand the patterns I have. The one part I have been having difficulty on is the back wear it says to cut 4 pieces of fabric out for the side back and back. It says 2 of those pieces will be used as facing. I really am lost at this point I'm not sure how to put them all together back there! Any Ideas? I have fused the pieces with interfacing as well and having boning to apply as of yet. Anyone got any advice please?

  • This isn't a beginners project, is it? >.<

  • @rsgirl10 That depends on how you define 'beginner'^^

  • coutil is the inner fabric that holds nice and tight

  • I was wondering if you sell stuff you make and if so where? Love this corset but don't have stuff or skill to make =(

  • @TehZedaj Sorry I don't sell them^^

But there are many onlin corset shops I would just check those out.

  • i loved the hammer part's!!!! omg thx!!!!

  • Good video, but you should put some sort of music over it so it isn't so silent. Something that isn't obnoxious like techno or death metal, though.

  • @Kouin I tried finding something but yt has been rather strict with their copyright-claims-on-music thing for a while now...

  • Sooo pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I love you now!!! will make one for myself yaaaay

  • Now, i know you can use ribbon, but for someone like me, who like the corset tight, the ribbon might stretch and break. I know they use a kind of shoe string like string. what is that called?

  • how thick does the fabric need to be so it wont break while your tightening it?

  • @NoonJoon A thick, non-elastic cotton should work, if you want to be absolutely sure take a jeans-like fabric or order special corset-fabric for the inside-layer online^^

  • Yup the whatever it is is indeed bias tape (double fold I believe)

  • genial me encanto el problema es ke nu esta en español

  • genial me encanto

  • the "what-ever-it-is" that you show at 6:52 is called bias tape. Good job on making the corset.

  • This is an underbust corset right? Can I use the same pattern for an overbust? =)

  • @Zinaccti Well you would definitely have to adjust the pattern so that it is longer.

  • This is really helpful, but how do you know which size to make it in? Where and how do you measure?

  • @noonealive123 Making it right onto the body usually spares from size-questions. I have a video up on how I do the patterns but I admit it might not be too helpful... in any case there are patterns available to buy which come in specific sizes and with detailed instructions^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Oh, I see. Thank you ^^

  • You talked about sizes. I can't speak English very good, but i want to question - you talked about sizes... Errr... 'Parts' of this corset? Because I don't know how long or wide I must cut those parts. If you had a video with that, please add it again. Maybe it will be helpful.

I hope I explained well what I mean xD

  • @NibiNeko22 Look up my video 'making a corset pattern' then you'll know everything I know about sizes and parts and patterns^^

  • Thank you! this helps alot! what woulld you do if you wante the corset to be two different colours? like red on one side and black on the other? just cut out the sides from the different fabric?

  • @TheHarrleyQBlogs Jop you got it^^

  • Amazing, I´ll try this for my friends.

    Thanks!

  • Beautiful corset :D may i ask, what kind of fabric did you use and where can i find the corset steel? thank you. ^__^

  • @aimi360 i know the name is shantung ok!

  • wow thank you very much for showing it.

  • beautiful but difficult...pfff

  • How do I get the patter you used? I'm not really good with measurements and I'm curious if I can download the patterns, just asking since I'm new at making a corset or any complex type of clothing.

  • @anie6142 No, unfortunately there is no download for that, sorry^^

But patterns can be ordered online to reasonable prizes nowadays I have heard.

  • @anie6142 actually, if you toy with google, there are a lot of sites that offer free corset patterns and how tos on how to make them. though if you suck at measuring stuff i'd suggest just buying the pattern in your size at a fabric store.

  • If you're an amature, this is quite a decent way to make your own corset, even though i would strongly recommend using a non-elastic waistband in the corset to prevent the corset from stretching at the waist when tightend.

I'm a Professional Corsetmaker, and the way i make my corsets is verry different from this video.

But as i said, if you're an amature, this is probably one of the easiest ways to do it :)

  • @sealsex

oh thats fascinating. you should make a series of videos too. I am very interested in trying your technique for my next corset.

  • @H3rrH3rz

I Might do that if i get my hands on a good enough camera :)

  • Hi, Ive been following your video logs on making a corset, and they are very helpful videos! I have been sewing mine for a month (I have to do it all by hand because I have no sewing machine) and it seems to be turning out well. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

  • You are fucking genius!!! That corset you made is beautiful!

  • That is BEYOND AMAZING!

Also, may I ask where did you get the corset steel from?

  • @ShroukiePoo Craftstore, but I don't really recommend that^^

  • @ShroukiePoo try corsetmaking-dot-com; this place has everything you could possibly need, per piece or in bulk.

  • This was an excellent video. I haven't seen very much high quality sewing since i graduated from design school five years ago. Good job. If u need any dwsign tips i am your girl, sewing is not my strong suit

  • Bias tape is the fabric ribbon along the bottom I believe. :)

  • very simliar to how i make corsets very good

  • Awesome video! I love watching it. And the corset is so beautiful!!! I just have one question. Should I use fusible interfacing? I bought this lovely fabric (black with purple flowers) and I want it to be the outside of the corset, but it's kinda stretchy. Should I use interfacing on it or just buy less stretchy fabric?

  • @DarkNinjaChick Not quite sure what you mean with 'interfacing'... in general the material for the outside can be a little bit stretchy if you know how to work with the material, but you should make sure that the middle-layer is very strong and does not stretch.

  • Your sewing skills are very impressive. I have tried to make a corset before without such beautiful results. But just so you know the tape you put on the top and bottom is called bias tape. I believe you were using double sided bias tape,

  • 6:39 the fabric is called bias tape or twill tape

  • This is a stunninly (if thats even a word) beutiful corset! It looks fantastic!

However, I hate to sound if I'm complaining when im not, but I got a bit confused at the "sewing the three layers together part" Could you perhaps comment/PM a more acurate explanation? Like what side the roses would be facing for each layer?

I'm sorry if Iyts a bother - but it's a wonderful corset and tutorial. Thank you so much!

  • @milesxofxsmilesx I made a video-diary on a corset I made it's more detailed than this video, just look it up in my 'corset'-playlist maybe it helps... if you have any further questions you can pm me of course^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Ausome! I'll check it right away - Thanks!

  • @Goldkehlchen Hola vi todo el vídeo super interesante, el problema es que no entiendo ingles :(, si pudieras subirlo en español te estaría agradecida. saludos

  • wow this is probably the best one ive seen! :D thumbs up!!!

  • great job!my compliments!!

  • great job!my compliments!

  • This corset is BEAUTIFUL! I just want to know before I start if it's the kind of corset that can suck everything in! Is it a decorative corset or can it be used in the traditional sense?

  • @TempeBrennanBooth I'd say it's kind of a hybrid... it can be used to restrict the belly, but it can also be worn losely, depending on what the wearers size is.

  • This is so cool

  • Perfect!!! exactly what i need for my Poison Ivy costume this year, now all i have to do is figure out how to measure for, and make the pattern pieces... any ideas?

  • @CerridwenFlyhieght I have a video on that up in there is all I know about that, btw posion ivy is an awesome idea for a costume^^

  • perfect!

  • This is awesome!! Can u do corsets with leather cos I'm doing like a kinda armour like costume and I'm making a corset for it but since it's like armour I want to do a leather one and I wasn't sure cos I've only made corsets from this weird cottony kinda fabric

  • @Zazaroo61 I haven't tried leather so far but from what I know it should work the same way it does with 'weird cottony kinda fabric'^^

  • What type of fabric do you reccomend for corset?

  • @crisy003 I've tried satin, taffeta and some thick cotton-fabric, in general I'd say anything except for strech and transparent stuff like tulle or chiffon should be working^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 with the inspiration and help from your video I made my very first corset, I made the pattern lightly different, plus mine was an overbust with a flat neckline, I used a thicker antique looking patterned cotton, I think the trick was all of the layers, mine turned out beautifully! I just wish I could have found steel boning. I only found plastic, is it possible to eventually replace it though?

  • @crisy003 Yes I think that's possible I took one steel-peice out to repair it once and I could easily put it back in, so replacing plastic with steel should be not much of a problem^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Thank you so much! My victorian inspired Marie Antoinette masquerade costume is all coming together, thanks so much for your awesome corset video! It really helped me with my detail work!

  • @crisy003 Wasn't Marie Antoinette more baroque?

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Yeah, probably, the victorian style is what inspired me, but my costume will be more similar to something that Marie Antoinette would wear. My corset has actually turned out stunningly. I used a brocade type of vintage looking cream and gold fabric. It's pretty nice!

  • @crisy003 Crossover from different periods can have interesting results I believe.

Sounds like your corset turned out very pretty I am glad it all worked out so well for you^^

  • @crisy003 you might want a natural fabric for the lining, like cotton canvas. but make sure it does not stretch. And for the out side, you could use anything from muslin (for a simple one), to a brocade (for a more elaborate one). I didn't make the video but I have made a corset before.

  • oh okay, well i suppose i can measure it against myself. thank you for responding.

  • what are the measurements of the pattern for the corset?

  • what are the measurements of the pattern for the corset?

  • @fkgu2000 I'm afraid I don't remember... I made it right onto the body so I didn't really pay attention to the length of the pieces. I could ask the person I made it for to lend it to me once more so I can check but that might take a while and success depends on the circumstances^^

  • omg...u did a wonderfull job...im gonna try it out.....cuz i really wanna make my own....so hopefully im able to do it lol

oooo and where di u get ur steel whire from?

  • @rainbownails818 I got it from a store nearby but I think it's much easier to order it online^^

  • Where do you get eyelets and the tool you used to put them in?

  • Could you please tell me the measurements on the pattern for the corset.

  • Ahh, I will so be needing this for my halloween costume.

  • better quaity on the video pleas

  • Arigatou XD gracias a ti!!!

  • thank you so much!!! this really helped me!! *going further with making my corset*

  • ok.... I'm going over the steps and looking at your demonstration...and what i was seeing is that you cut and sewed two layers of regular fabric, then cut and sewed a 3rd layer which is the pretty fabric?

which way should that be facing?

  • @myemodeath I don't wuite get what you're asking sorry. Are you asking which is the prettiest fabric and what impact would that have on what it should be facing?

  • @Goldkehlchen20 no, i was wondering how many layers there were, and if you used two types of fabric, one fabric for the inside and one fabric for the outside.

  • how do you get in without the busk?

  • @lizziet117 Putting it on and then lacing it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!!! For years i have read books and magazines and patterns to try making corsets but none made sense to me! This vid makes perfect sense-thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

    p.s.

The "Whatever it is" is called Double foled bias tape.

  • This is beautiful =) I never used a sewing machine but the only reason why I want to use one, is to do my own corsets. I can't find any that fits me, I'm too small -_-'

  • THIS IS AWESOME :D where did you get the steel wire?

  • where did you find the pattern, i can't find anything like the pattern you used?

did you make it your self?

  • @Elise1993ish Yes I make them myself I have a video showing how I make them in my corset-playlist in case you're interested^^

  • Wow!

    Wonderful Job!!

  • wow, thanks...this is a pretty great instructional. i am sewing savy...have attempted to make a corset pattern out of my head before and been mildly successful...however, i do believe i can actually rage it after watching this.

    thanks again...

  • Do you make this to sell?

  • @rachellgirly I don't sell any but you can make one yourself^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Haha.. thanks... I'll attempt it, but I'm not very sew savy... lol

  • @rachellgirly Well if you're too afraid there's always the option of just ordering one online, there are also people who review the corsets they bought if you're unsure about the quality^^

  • thank you this is very useful!

  • at 3:50 its called sewing in the ditch

  • The "whatever-it-is fabric" used to finish the outer of the corset is called binding =)

    Hope that helps.

  • ok so im trying to make a corset and was wondering what is all the items I will need in order to make a corset.

  • Is that a question?

  • @colorfulwinter2 I have a couple of videos in my playlist where I show the entire process you can have a look at them then you'll see what is required^^

  • love your work :)

  • super

  • Love the corset! What are the layers? I'm trying to make a corset for myself and I know the outerlayer is the fabric you want to show off, I have brocade and the lining that touches the body is something else like a cotton but what should the middle be? What did you use? I keep getting told to use canvas interfacing but I can't find that anywhere so I was hoping you used something else hehe or had any ideas of alternatives : ) Did you have to use a Corset Busk?

  • I used some sort of thick jeans-fabric for the inner layer, you know not this stretch-stuff but the really stiff material that is almost indestructable.

And no I didn't use a corset busk I don't like ordering things online... even though they're really practical in concept^^

  • so good ^^,

    thank you

  • Between which two layers did you place the boning?

  • One layer, the middle-layer. When you look at the corset from the side close to the seam, there will be two pieces of the outside-layer, two pieces of the inside-layer and wrapped between those two parts of the inside-layer, inbetween those two you have to place the metal. I hope this makes any sense to you^^

  • I'm planning a wedding and am planning on using this as the corset under the dress... the only thing is i don't want to spend way to much for the underwear that connect to the garter and if I'm making the corset i would like them to match...Could you please make a tutorial for garter underwear?

  • I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't know anything about that subject^^

  • @mindthinks If you know where to shop it isn't all that expensive. One of the cheaper (but still worth what you spend) stores is Fredricks of Hollywood. You're also going to be ready to just BUY something by the time you get through with the corset, and not to mention good luck finding the right lacy materials and connections for that type of underwear.

  • OMG, so I watched this video probably a million times this past week and I finally made my pattern and put it together on my mock fabric, i cut it out and what not and since I couldn't find my thread, I used a stapler =) and when I looked at it, it looked just like yours. Thanx so much for making this video, I'm going to make the real thing when go back to the store and chose the fabric I want =). Thanx again

  • you are great!!!! ^^

  • unlike some people that wear corsets you look very comfortable in yours =). You actually make it seem okay to get the corset and not have to endure all of the pain of tight lacing etc. very very pretty corset and it gives you a nice shape (as I saw in your other video =) )

  • @iDancenova

The corset was not done for myself so it sat pretty losely.

I have to say that tightlacing isn't the only way of altering the shape of the body, a comfortable corset that is not too tight can have a great effect on figure and body-posture without being restricting at all^^

  • IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! :D

  • see you make it seem really easy but im can be clumsy at times and i am hopeless when it comes to fiddleing with small parts of frabric and what not my hands cant stay still haha. gorgeous courset though hun :)

  • did you come up with this pattern and technique of construction yourself or did you use a reference?

  • I used pictures of other corsets for the general shape.

  • The step you didn't know what it's called. Is Bias Tape, I think. :D

  • De-light-full....Very Inspiring...

  • I buy it in a shop in my town and prepare it myself, so I've never really ordered anything on the internet so far. I'm sorry but I guess I can't really give you advice in this regard^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20

    ok thanks !

  • Hello

where do you buy your steel please ?

If you buy them in internet can I have link of the shop, it will be better if it's in ebay ^^

    thanks !!

  • very, very nice! you should really invest in the crop-a-dile. its an eyelet setter AND puncher - so no more hammer! it punches through a lot of stuff... even chip board and thin tin and yes, fabric. I use it a lot myself for corsets

  • ... Wow. The result is impressive. Beautiful. *-*

  • This is cool!

You can use a plastic bone instead of steel-wire, it's more flexible :)

  • And it will crack after half a year.

  • Thank you for lettin' me know!

  • were did you get the steel wire from

  • A shop called 'vowinkel'.
