if its off of ur home network then how do you connect it to the internet? because i wanna host a website off of one of those as well as a home backup server. which brings me to my second question: when clustering do u share the storage of all the computers?
@seanoid69 The only reason I didn't have it connected to the net in my video was that I had no phone line near where I had the cluster set up.
With this setup, the storage isn't shared. What you'd be better of doing is just using one machine and setting up a RAID array so that you've got multiple disks acting as one disk but you also have redundancy. If that's not an option then you've got distributed filesystems like Ceph that should do the job.
@Alias1407 can u post a video of a raid away build? cuz i can't find anyone building a raid array... and my rack server i have only has IDE connecters in (i know old shit)... is there a way i can use another computer (that has a a bunch of SATA ports) and connect that other computer to the server and use one to house data and one to process?
@seanoid69 The other nodes shouldn't need Hardrives as they're booting from the network and the image is stored in RAM AFAIK. As long as you've got at least 256 MB in each of your nodes you should be fine.
I'll eventually do a RAID video but that means formatting all my drives which I don't plan on doing any time soon.
As for connecting one computer for storage to another for processing I have no idea.
hey cool stuff.. Just got over the NoSQL DB (MongoDB/CouchDB) HA stuff (DRBD, Pacemaker, HeartBeat), now looking into setting up compute nodes together (then how to mix it all together to have a HPC HA DB environ in my "labs") !!!
you make it look easy to look into. Great vid :) thanx

@Alias1407 and since everyone i've asked so far know jack shit... do the compute nodes need any hdd? if the main node has a hdd?
