I, personally think this is one of the better youtube examples of this piece. I dont know if its the tempo or the extradordinary clarity with the dynamics...like example 3.20-3.50 it sounds right to the ear more then some renditions ive heard :)
Apparently , the boys in the capitol figured that building TWO new instruments and throwing the old Skinner out would be "cheaper" than restoring this old girl. She needs a LOT of work, but quite frankly I think they have a duty to restore a historical instrument like this to its former comprehensiveness and glory.
And great rendition, too, I like the registration you've picked. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as a lot of people say it does...
I don't know how much it would cost to repair, but their total pipe count by the end, between the new organs, is supposed to be "40,000." Now, I don't know, but a 20,000-pipe Casavant is going to cost, CONSERVATIVELY, about 15 million dollars (the single most overpriced company on the market, if I remember correctly). Fisk would be a nice choice, though I worry that they specialize in Tracker too much (I don't think a Tracker would work well in the National Cathedral). No experience with MR.
well in my talks with Chris Jacobson while I was studying there, he told me a few specifics about the instrument(s). Casavant does indeed have the contract for a four manual tracker in the rear gallery (they currently have speakers up there mimicking the sound that congregation would hear so they can get used to it) and Dobson has the contract for the organ in front. I believe parts of it are going to be rebuilt and re-used but a good majority will be new. I'm just glad I got to play it!
yeah, kevin! i was looking for this video and definitely didn't think i'd find you playing it!! i hope you are well! it sure as hell sounds like it!!!!! :-)

I hear they are going to remove that beautiful organ. Maybe more recordings like this would remind them why this organ must stay!

Your absolutely right! They should be ashamed of themselves for even thinking of replacing it.

Are you serious? How much would it cost to repair it properly? Through some Obama stimulus money at Manuel Rosales or Fisk, for Pete's sake!
