Question: how would you describe the difference of playing between Ammonds and Pete Johnson, more swing to one, more steady bass for the other?

Ammons is more fluently and Pete Johnson has more this hard touch of playing but still both swing but Ammons was from chicago and johnson from kansas so I think it makes a different where the style is developed in wich city

Unbelievable. I watched the Ammons Johnson old time video then clicked this video response, and have to say, yours is just as good. What words of advice do you have for a rookie who's strugglin to put a solid top hand on the bottom of a simple boogie woogie base? BTW - trying to figure out what the bass notes are that you are playing... can you let me know?? Thanks, awesome stuff.

There's a video lesson of my that explanes the left hand have to look it up later because Im about to leave for a gig..the left hand is very important in the boogie woogie if the left hand isn't solid the right hand just has no use. Maybe its good to start with a song you know and try to make it into a boogie woogie or begin with a left hand blues if boogie woogie is going to fast for you..always take a step back if things go to fast..good luck!

Excellent Ammons Boogie. But it isn't Boogie Woogie Prayer. It's Boogie Woogie Dream which Ammons and Johnson played together.

I enjoyed your video explaining the intro. It would be great to create other videos continuing the song.

Thanks..I just keep playing like those guys used to do..that's what I like about Boogie Woogie..the going rythm, the sound and ofcourse the right styl you play. If someone would ask me is boogie woogie something that everyone can play, I would answer: yes, but there's a difference in boogie woogie styl but I guess that's in every kind of music, everybody has its own terpetation for playing the boogie woogie and makes it so special, otherwise it would be all the same..

I can't see from the video whether you use the left little finger with each bass chord, but I suspect not.

You might get closer to Albert Ammons ferocious drive if you did.
