i've been looking for a good lesson for this song for weeks and you had me playing this in the time it took me to watch it, epic good job thank you so much
Mute nice and close to the string end at the bridge, gives a lighter mute. Moving further along the string towards the nut or applying more pressure will kill the string quicker and give a heavier mute. HTH :)
dude, youre my guitar lick master now . thanks for this vid, it helped me get these parts down. do you happen to have any steve vai songs? try and teach tender surrender or for the love of god. anyway, instead of the string skipping arpeggios, you can do it in a sweeping motion also. for ex: when you play 14 then 12 on the high e, then 14, 11 on the g, start from the d and hit 12, g11, 10 B and 10 on the high E. it comes out the same but I think its easier and faster.
i noticed that at the end of the part when you played to the original timing, your video and your audio was a bit out of sync and while you were teaching the riffs, the sound from your guitar was different from the part. i'm not trying to say that you're fake or anything cos i learned quite a bit from this vid and i thank you for that but i just noticed that tiny little error.
@blitz92z I record the audio for each section differently and record the audio separately. For the demo part I have just the amp mic'ed and for the actual lesson I use an ambient mic to record my voice and guitar. Everything is then edited together, video and audio, in Final Cut Express where I line up the audio waveforms to the camera audio. I've noticed sometimes that once things are uploaded to youtube there's a tiny bit of lag.
@mastertheguitar oh that explains a lot. thanks! anyway, you make really good videos. but i've noticed you make vids on songs by bands which are rather metallish and hard rock-ish (if i'm not wrong). ever thought of teaching the riffs of other songs of other genres? i'm pretty sure more people will watch your vids if you do so.
@blitz92z I tend to cover riffs from bands/artists I love which covers a wide range from rock to blues to jazz to funk to pop to metal, hard rock etc. You should see the list of riffs I would love to cover! :D It's just finding the time to do them :)
Fantastic tutorial. Well explained, in good time and good editing. Thanks. Dunno if anyone else has said, but I'd pay for a full video tutorial of this song.
Do you experience lag/delay when you play in realtime with guitar rig. I get some Pretty anoying delay when i play with my line 6 pod into my pc with USB.
Music is of course very dynamic and I'd hate for people to think it's all analytical and straight edges, but for these videos I think it helps to try and convey what's going on rhythmically for people to learn rather than just saying 'play this slow then fast' which could be too vague for some.
I'm sorry, it's just that i'm exhausted, i have all my exams coming this week and next week (music school). I just don't know how to exprss what i mean. Just accelerate the lick ... or just ask paul, because that' what my teacer did. He asked paul and paul answered him what i'm trying to say !!!!
So yeah, listen to te recording, perhaps he played triplets but definitly not live, or anywhere later.
2:36. That riff is not played like that. Paul plays a crescendo alternate picking lick. Starts slow and you go faster and faster to reach the beat ... that's all ... yeah i know what you think, but music isn't perfect dude ... He's not playing triplets he's just going faster and faster on that lick. How do i know that ? Guess how ..
thx for clearing up the arpeggio part, been trying to figure out what's going on there for a long time, and the scores on the internet or even the official score just doesn't sound right. thx!
hey check out my video response. I only watched this vid 30 mins ago so im still playing it quite slow but i just thought i'd show you how i was doing with it. By the way your videos are amazing. thanks!
Great lesson as always. The timing on that main riff sounds pretty tricky. THANK GOD you actually explain the timing for these things unlike every other song lesson on youtube.

Am I the only one that actually finds the crazy string-skipping stuff much easier than the body of the actual main riff itself? :-/

Do you start with an upstroke? I make all the reverse way, why do you do that, it's esasier for alternate picking?

scarified

@gwapogerone For me the string skipping in scarified is intense, Technical Difficulties, does require more technique.
